The fact that the regulations explicitly say under 7 feet "in any direction" makes me wonder if anyone has ever tried making a 6.9 foot cube block
@KTSTHofficial4 ай бұрын
The any direction rule means that you have to also take into consideration diagonal measurements. Thanks to the homie Pythagoras, we can figure out each side using homeboi's theorem. Using some generous rounding so we don't break our limit, we can figure that each side should be about 4.87 ft or 4'10".

Just a note on keeping long foam barrels like this from bending under their own weight (@11:32). Place an long X like structure, made out of thin plywood or foam core, that looks like this (X) inside of the barrel. You can put lightening holes in it to keep the extra weight down.

I suppose one way to make the PVC more uniform size with the corner joints, is to layer foam sheet around to thicken the straight pieces, which would also serve as grip material since that would be the areas to hold. You'd still see seams but maybe if you put a slight texture into it you could hide it.

Imagine trying to go through TSA with this in your bag
@jaketheripper73854 ай бұрын
It wouldn't be a problem because it wouldn't be in your carry-on luggage, and you can travel with real firearms in your checked baggage as much as you want, soo... However you might run into some issues if it was in carry-on even it is in two to three seperate components because they won't even let you possess remotely gun-shaped or "weapon-adjacent" objects in your carry-on. I remember when I was like toddler age the TSA wouldn't let me take a plastic toy power drill on the plane. It was like one of those motorized Fisher Price toys with a blue body and bright yellow bit that would spin when you pulled the trigger, but it was totally blunt and wouldn't even spin if you put the slightest amount of pressure on it. It was very clearly a child's toy and quite utterly harmless. Nope, they didn't care. It bore some very minimal passing resemblance to a firearm with its remotely pistol like grip and profile so I couldn't keep it. Bare in mind I'm like four or five years old tops, and this is in the 90's a good six to seven years *before* 9/11... I screamed, cried, and wailed because it was my very favorite thing in the entirely universe and it had to be pryed from the death grip that my little fingers had on it. I bawled my little eyes out for the next hour or so until I cried myself to sleep. Fast forward a few years and I'm like 10 years old and visiting my grandparents across the country, and Grandma bought me a brand new Super Soaker during the visit. It wouldn't fit in my checked baggage so I figure I can just stick in my carry-on backpack because it's quite obviously a toy water gun with very visible water tanks and everything and it bears absolutely no resemblance to a real firearm even in the slightest beyond the fact that it has a pistol grip and a trigger. Nope, doesn't matter. They confiscated that shit too. As if they weren't big enough assholes, they wouldn't even let my parents duck out to run and give it to my grandparents who were still in the airport to have them ship it to me. They just took it. At any rate, these days I'm older and wiser and knowing what I know now about TSA and how they tend to be staffed by some of the lowest, most wretched, and downright scummy people that society has to offer, these past experiences do not surprise me even in the slightest. Contrary to popular belief, TSA are not law enforcement and they have no legal authority to do much of anything really. They're essentially nothing more than glorified security guards/"rent-a-cops". Believe me when I say you should keep a close eye on your stuff when they search you and never let them do anything without your consent or without you present standing right there closely supervising. They can be some of the lowest of the low and should not be trusted for an instant. You'd be surprised if you knew just how common it is for TSA employees to have an extensive criminal record... Don't just take my word for it, feel free to look into it for yourself. There are even countless videos out there of the TSA acting hella shady and violating people's rights, even committing outright crimes and/or stealing from passengers or planting stuff in their luggage right out in the open as if they know they can get away with it. It's absolutely wild, but unfortunately most people are just ignorant and don't know any better...

Would it not have gone through weapon check if you just made the main tube from pvc sewage pipe? I think that would have solved all sagging issues!
@sam_meeps4 ай бұрын
That’s a great question! The short answer is weight. It would be insanely heavy to carry and also breaks weapons check rules. The math answer - I needed about 9 feet of pipe with 7 inch outer diameter. So even the lightest pipe like Schedule 40 PVC pipe (which weighs about 4.5 lbs per foot of pipe) would add up to about 40 lbs. It would be impossible to carry, much less all day at a convention. Also the rules people would be mad because the max weight is 15 pounds 😂
@Tryant694 ай бұрын
@@sam_meeps Hmm had to do some freedom to metric converting but where I live the pipe would weigh around 20 pounds for that length. Still too much for the rules but much more manageble than 40! Guess that's why I thought it was possible! Also the con rules here seem te be more about not looking like an actual existing firearm and not being sharp.
@sam_meeps4 ай бұрын
@@Tryant69Ah interesting. I had referenced a chart from PVC Pipe Supplies and they listed that weight for Schedule 40 PVC with half inch wall thickness. They also had weights for Schedule 80 PVC but that was even heavier. Either way, my arms quiver at the thought of anything above 10 😂 Anime Expo def has some SUPER specific rules! Curious if you’re based in the US?
@Tryant694 ай бұрын
@@sam_meeps Nope I'm based in the EU hence the need for converting to the metric system and back to imperial to talk about this haha. The pvc here has a wall thickness of 0.16 inch or 5/32 you would call it? Should be strong enough especially because you don't hold it at the end of the tube. This is kinda making me wanna make one! But I already have to many things to finish haha!
