ROBERT! As someone who's worked with art glass (and needs to get their tools and kiln back from their parent's house), you don't need to slap the glass on the edge of your table. If you have a pencil or a wood dowel, just put the dowel between the glass and the tabletop, running along the scribed mark. Then just put GENTLE pressure on both sides to bend the glass at the scribed mark... And the crack will pop beautifully along the scribed mark. You'll get less breakage there. They also make special pliers that do this called breaking sheers.

Awesome job! 2 possible additions might be: 1- Nesting boxes with some hay for them to lay in 2 - Perches, chickens prefer to sleep off the floor if they can
@SuperMatthew1284 жыл бұрын
A good idea is to build a small square filled with something, like hay, where the chickens like to lay their eggs and also sleep inside. It depends on how many chicks you have, but I would make at least three squares. Also, if you are going to build the wood square, don't forget that the chickens get kinda large, and they don't really like tight spaces, specially to lay eggs. Another thing, make a small bar to put on the small chicken door, to avoid the shaving falling out and saving you some time not having to collect the fallen pine shaving. They jump on top of it without any problems when they want to go out/in. Besides those nice tips that aren't reeally necessary, great job on the chicken coop, very well Dunn!
@steveadams40094 жыл бұрын
Apparently you have raised chickens, the nesting boxes should be about 16 inches square and there should be some roosts for the chicken to sleep on they feel like they are up in a tree and so more relaxed.n You can put guttering under the roosts to collect a large part of the mess and just take them out and wash when cleaning the coop.
@boots78593 жыл бұрын
@@steveadams4009 Or if you have space, make a chicken tractor that can be moved once a week. Make the coop floor from mesh and very little poop will need to be cleaned up as most of it ends up on the ground.

@GigsTaggart4 жыл бұрын
Some tips. You are going to want an electrical circuit out there. For two main reasons. One, in the winter when the days get shorter they will stop laying completely. If you put a light with a timer for 12 hours of light on during the winter, they will lay all winter. In the winter you will also need some way to keep their water from freezing, either a heater or use an incandescent bulb to keep the coop above freezing. One risk with heating the whole coop is that if the power goes off, they can die from the rapid change in temperature when it's cold. So you may want to only heat the water. An incandescent light in a cookie tin to sit the waterer on makes a good warmer. You need to make a laying box for them. They like to have an enclosed space to lay. If an egg breaks because they kick it you will have a bunch of egg eaters on your hands. Once they taste egg they will break them on purpose. Chickens love to eat egg. A laying box helps keep them from breaking eggs in the first place. With regard to roosting, chickens are not like birds that stand on wires. They like being flat footed. They will need a wider roost when they are bigger. The roost you have is already almost too narrow for your chickens and they aren't full grown. A nice to have thing would be to put a frame in the run with some topsoil and grass, or sand, or even just random dirt. Chickens like to dust bathe and appreciate grass and dirt.

Tip for resawing 2x4s with underpowered tools (like mine!): Use the table saw cut about 1" deep on each side. This leaves about 1.5" in the middle of the board. You probably won't trip your saw with cuts like this. Then, use the bandsaw and finish the resaw. The blade will preferentially stay in the kerfs you cut and will bog down the bandsaw way less. You can even get away with using a non resaw blade.

A few things change the hook and eye latch’s on the clean out door a raccoon will have that open in a second. why not use osb and shingle the roof ? You can hinge the roof a crack as well for ventilation . That house is gonna be hot and steamy during the day. Fence slats are cheap and can be used for chicken trim ripping 2x4 isn’t fun. On my coop I made the door bottom hinged and it serves as a draw bridge so if a predator gets in at night it will be harder to pry at the door.

Only one piece of advice for you concerning ripping... Featherboards. You can make them yourself with your bandsaw and then use them on the bandsaw as well as the tablesaw. Clamp them in place and allow them to provide gentle guiding pressure from above (attach to fence) and from the side opposing the fence, and you can just gently push your material through the blade with much better control.
