Scissors with blunt nose are supposed to be ok per TSA, BUT... Always travel with a self-addressed stamped priority mail envelop on board, so that they can mail it to you rather than confiscate it. NEVER let them "take" it. Also a good idea to download TSA rules, print and highlight them for distribution to the "unwise" officer who doesn't know the rules.

There are several things that "should" pass TSA, but the self addressed envelop is definitely the best contingency plan.

That’s actually a great idea. They might still “forget” to mail it, but better a slim chance than an outright confiscation. (I got an empty lighter confiscated, even though TSA rules were clear that it’s OK to pack.)

Don't knives fly in hold luggage ?
@doubledrats235
@doubledrats235 2 жыл бұрын
For a knife like that I would put it in checked luggage or travel with a stamped and self addressed bubble wrap envelope and mail it to myself from the airport if the TSA gave me grief. I had a Compact SD SAK on my key ring when I travelled back and forth many times between NYC and Orlando and never had an issue. Until one day when I tossed my keys into the bin to be X-rayed and the loud clunk alerted a TSA agent. She opened the knife and said the sharp blade was not allowed in carry on. My wife gave me a dirty look since she didn’t want to miss the flight so I gave up the knife and bought a new one for $20 when we got home. I heard that the TSA sells some confiscated items. I wonder if they pocket some nice ones. I now put my SAK in checked luggage.

It's as if the Havalon was meant for SAK, just the perfect fit, Imagine a surgeon/paramedic/doctor/nurse orders one of these custom from you and happens to use it in an emergency situation.... That would be the epitome of EDC usefulness! Awesome work as usual! I thought TSA doesn't allow anything sharp edged or pointy ? That goes for the can opener, scissors, corkscrew yes hmm, intresting to know they aren't
@matthewstrunk605
@matthewstrunk605 2 жыл бұрын
The Transportation Security Administration currently states that corkscrews without blades are acceptable in carry-on bags, while those with small blades must be placed in a checked bag (as with any sharp object, they prefer it be sheathed or wrapped to prevent baggage handlers and inspectors from being injured). Scissors, if packed in carry-on, they must be less than 4 inches from the pivot point. Any sharp objects in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.

saddest thing when travelling - for me as a swiss - is you have to leave your SAK at home (you never know when it is legal to carry it around in the destination-country) it's realy a shame that victorinox doesn't come up with a solution like this for their Traveller series on their own. luckily there are people like you doing this :)

@@FittoSurvive well for the 91mm i'd like the option to remove the blade. Like it is possible with the tools on the rescue tool... a bladeless 58mm (like the minichamp, just without blades) would be fantastic to travel...

@@FittoSurvive most defenetly! Btw - do you know a customizer in Switzerland who could make the Rescuetool into "41a compatible" (german weapons-law, article 41a. the most restrictive in europe - a knife legal by 41a is legal everywhere in europe)? (replacing the onehand-blade and linelock with a twohand-blade without lock)? Victorinox can do it but charges more than the 41a-compatible but discontinued version of the rescue-tool did cost...

I had "the honor" to go through TSA checkpoint. I wouldn't even try (as non-american) to persuade those people that this modified SAK is TSA compliant. I just place my SAK in the checked luggage. I don't need it in the cabin, and if you have some tools (like screwdriver for your glasses or whatever), just bring cheap chinese multitool or something that you don't care about. Carrying *locking* knife in Europe is probably illegal in most countries, but SAK's are generally OK. You don't need it every hour, right? Just keep it in your pocket. Police needs a court order to search you (at least where I live). I carry an Explorer all the time and use it basically just to cut that shrink-wrap thingie off the soda bottles packages.
