I have to admit, when the video was suggested to me, my first thought was: another new clip in which someone builds something out of pallet wood. I looked at it out of curiosity and I have to say: my utmost respect! you could feel the passion you had for this project while watching. At first I thought that would not work with softwood for a guitar neck, but the carbon fiber idea is brilliant! I think the workmanship is first class, you brought in very good ideas and produced an excellent finish. I also have to commend your very detailed video work, you certainly put just as much work into it as you did into building the instrument. If you don't yet earn money with building guitars, then have courage and start with it!

You can even ask things you'd think embarassing (like, I don't like this or that, can't you do it another way for me) for the Dutch do like you saying anything you'd have on your mind. Don't wait, don't hesitate, it is appreciated when you present any problem, no matter what. In other words, no need be shy. That's Dutch culture. For real.

making the neck to me would not be the problem. what bothers me is fitting the neck to the body and keeping everything square. then making the finger board and dressing the frets, that bothers me. i have some basic carving skills and tools, so making the form for the body and bending the sides is not a problem. and i am talking about an acoustic guitar, classical or an arch top jazz guitar.

For anyone wondering: There are MANY different types of woods pallets are made of. Usually, the type of pallet he is working with would be considered to be in outstanding shape. As a person who has worked logistics for almost 2 decades, I can definitely say the average pallet is awful for all uses, minus storing things on, so basically being a pallet. Usually, the wood is splintered, caked in oil, (or other unsafe materials) has lots of scars/marks and is pretty much the absolute worst wood you can find. Trust me; this pallet is definitely great, and almost brand new. Good luck finding one in this shape that some company wants to part with. Even if you can find one, as I stated earlier, most have lots of marks/compression. Regardless, he obviously did a great job, and has artisan craftsmanship.
@PantsingtonHardware3 жыл бұрын
@Сергей Парватов Sergey Parvatov The only reason I mentioned the material was that finding a pallet like this would be extremely difficult for the average person, and also not to expect a pallet like this to be easy to find. Also, that most pallets are in horrible shape, so it might not be a good idea for others to attempt this with a pallet. I think you missed the point, but that's okay.
@PantsingtonHardware3 жыл бұрын
@Сергей Парватов Sergey Parvatov I understand you now, and I agree with you. The title should be something different. I agree with you about the tone. The wood type and quality for tone is very important, I think. I don't think he is trying to sell it, just keep it. I hope he doesn't try and sell it, because there is a reason why certain wood is used for pallets. Hopefully, he is just trying to show his skill with woodworking, but I think this video also misleads people into thinking the wood quality doesn't matter, and it's okay to make guitars out of horrible pallet wood. I do agree with you, definitely.

"As a person who has worked logistics for almost 2 decades" It is not the same working 2 decades in hong kong, than working 2 decades in the azores, or in Alaska, or in the middle of Afrika.. also it's dependant the "type" of products that were used on top, is not the same one used for fertilizers mostly, or other used for chemicals, thermoplastics. With that on mind, and begging sorry for my bad english (its only one of many languages i only know just to defend myself) a pallet used to carry "fruits" in Alaska, will probably be really worse than the same pallet used to carry fruits in Afrika. (Climate, humidity, infections) and also, pallets come in a variety of forms, shapes and, as u said, "caked/cooked in oil or similars" A pallet used in a commerce that "stores" clothes will be much better than one in the wild storing metal bars. with that on mind and knowing the fact that we dont know the origin of this one, the age, the uses and the mats, everything else is "speculation" But.. from my own experience, pallets doesn't have the "Worst wood" just "raw wood" and i've been able to "Recycle" a lot of wood from pallets, yeah, sometimes they are "infested" (Not sure if that's the word, full of bugs") sometimes its cracked, sometimes its burned with chems, but sometimes, i can salvage a lot of good wood, enough to make almost everything. Just as an ending point, from where i am, its made with pine wood, which is flexible and durable.
