Love your setup with the HD drill in the vice! Easy inexpensive and disk are cheap and easily available. Love simple tricks that everyone can afford using tools most people already have...

Hi Andy, Blimey you're turning videos out faster than I can watch them 😂 only joking. Great looking crook and shank mate, nice one. I'm sure your customer will be very happy with it. Right, will try and finish your stick harvesting video before you post another! Take care. Cheers

Hi, that's a difficult question for me as I specialise in hiking sticks and shepards crocks are to be honest a craft some stick maker's regard as a craft in its own right. If this helps the innermost circumference of the Crook a good man's fist size could fit in it. This sticks shaft was was a good inch and a half in diameter at join and the final stages of sanding reduced the oak Crook to around Inch and three quarters at its thickest I guess.Thanks for watching. Andy.

Since it isn't a steam bent crook, how would you prevent the crook from breaking along the wood grain??
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 6 ай бұрын
Hi, as with other crocks shaped in this Manor, they usually retain more meat in thickness and girth to retain strength. You can steam bend a normal stick to a smaller gauge and retain strength as you say. I did try pulling on the crock in the video and it simply had no flex or movement . It would take a cow to break this crock...lol.Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.

The trees that are available to me I've had had trouble with splitting during drying.... do you have that and how do I keep it from happening?
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 3 ай бұрын
Hi, firstly leave the bark on, the traditional way also is to seal the ends by useing any sealing product on each end of the stick to stop cracking. Also try to slowly dry them out and not have to wood by a heat source. Hopefully that would help. Thanks for watching and commenting. Andy.

Most epoxy I've used has to ne near 70° before the chemical reaction will start to activate. In the U.S. anyway. Also why don't you measure your stopcut?
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561
@hiddenvalleyfootpaths2561 3 ай бұрын
Hi, the epoxy I use has a activation part that will go off in colder conditions but the optimal temp is room temperature . On the opposite end on hot days or conditions it goes off faster as expected. The product I use is quite stable and much more workable that the resins I used to build surfboards 30 years ago with. Many thanks for watching.Andy.

Hi , the stop cut I use are a blade in depth and to the lowest point in the socket I am putting the peg into. I probably did not make that as clearly as I sould have in my explanation. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. Andy.
