@@mrj1299 She said it in the video: a task that helps you in the long or short run to fully one of your goals. If you want to learn other languages, then it may be that. If you are learning some skill, it can be this. If you just want to beat a record in a game, why not? She talked about spending only 20 minutes, or something like that, so maybe she thinks of this as something that can be intimidating/boring/hard but need for your goal and the short time helps you to do it.

I think the key here is that action happens when motivation is greater than resistance. We often have some level of motivation whether we start a task or not, but sometimes the resistance is greater than the motivation so we don't start. The wisdom in this quote is that taking action often removes a lot of the resistance that exists at the start of a task, so instead of waiting for motivation to randomly increase, we can trust that once we start some of the resistance will go away and motivation might then be greater than the resistance, allowing us to continue with the task without requiring huge amounts of willpower. Am I good at following this wisdom? Not really. :P

I'm currently working on my master's dissertation. An unusual way i overcome resistance is by reminding myself of the limited time i have in this world. There's a saying along the lines of "You are nothing but a number of days, whenever each day passes then part of you has gone." Another powerful one "Leaving things until later deprives you of the very experiences you need to grow" Constantly reminding myself of this helps put things into perspective and focus on the things that really matter in life. Hope this benefits whoever reads this.

Key points include: 1. Understanding the Root Cause: Importance of identifying the underlying reasons for a lack of motivation and procrastination. They liken it to getting a proper diagnosis before taking medication. 2. Common Causes of Motivation Struggles: Outline several common reasons for struggling with motivation, such as lack of clarity, feeling overwhelmed, feeling unfulfilled, burnout, and lack of a proper system. 3. Brain Dump Technique: Starting the day with a brain dump to clear the mind of all tasks and thoughts, which helps reduce feelings of overwhelm. 4. Prioritization: Using the Eisenhower Matrix, tasks are categorized into urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important. This helps prioritize tasks effectively. 5. Focus of the Day: Picking one main task each day that aligns with long-term goals, dedicating at least 20 minutes to it. 6. Elimination of Non-Essential Tasks: From the initial list of tasks, eliminate five to focus on the most critical ones. This helps manage workload and avoid burnout. 7. Daily Tracking and Reflection: At the end of each day, review the tasks completed and reflect on what went well and what could be improved. This reflection helps in adapting and improving productivity methods over time. 8. Adapting and Adjusting: Importance of being flexible and adjusting methods based on what works best for the individual.

I agree so much with setting time for life building tasks. You have to learn to not only willingly make the choice to ignore ultra stressful urgent tasks to focus on seemingly selfish tasks like hitting the gym, but to also see that choice as a literal investment in your future and your literal current mental stability. Most people would engage in these tasks feeling that they are wasting their time and that perspective in many cases makes the problem worse. A mindset shift sounds too simple and stupid to work, but it's the extreme opposite. It's very hard to shift your mindset to thinking like this because at first you are just deluding yourself into thinking that doing these tasks will help you. Facts most of the time aren't enough to force this mindset shift. However, eventually after sometime engaging in these activities, you do see the benefits and not the self delusion and at that point, the shift is done because now you'll understand how and why from an anecdotal level you can actually take an urgent task, completely ignore it and willingly engage in selfish activities and not feel stressed about it.

A metaphor I started using to define my productivity is a wave you want to surf whose height and duration will depend on many physical, emotional, and environmental factors. Every day is a different ride. You can't surf for more than the wave will allow, and the more you ride, the better your balance will be. And some days you may need to go to a different beach to find a decent wave.

I don't think you're wrong, but speaking for myself, I've always struggled to find something I "enjoy and care about" in order to be productive about it. The things I actually care about are really simple and don't really follow the "grindset" mentality. Things like spending time with my friends, feeling at peace in general, showing animals love, playing games. I also feel somewhat strongly about healthy living so I do care about eating well and exercising, which I feel is pretty much the only thing I can be really "productive" about lol

For those with ADHD that don't know how to focus on a 13-minute video, here's a 10-point summary of the main ideas from the video transcript: - The speaker struggled with motivation and found traditional productivity methods ineffective. - She emphasizes understanding the underlying reasons for lack of motivation, rather than trying every productivity tip. - Common reasons for motivation struggles include lack of clarity, feeling overwhelmed, feeling unfulfilled, burnout, and lack of system. - The speaker recommends starting with a brain dump to clear your mind and gain clarity. - She suggests using the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency. - Choosing a daily focus that aligns with long-term goals is crucial for feeling fulfilled. - The method involves listing 10 tasks, then eliminating 5 to focus on the most important ones. - Tracking progress daily and reflecting on what went well and what could be improved is essential. - The approach aims to reduce reliance on motivation and discipline by creating a system and increasing self-awareness. - The speaker emphasizes adapting to personal situations and understanding that motivation fluctuates, rather than pushing oneself constantly.

I'd recommend everyone try a lot of these things with a physical notebook. I've personally found that a lot of technology being designed to be distracting doesn't help me too much..

Time management is a big thing for me. Not the lack of it mind you. I see others where this is such a challenge. Maybe it's what the priorities items or people are.

It looks like a Charybdis keyboard, but I don’t remember if these come in clear chassis or not. If you google “tented split ergonomics keyboard with trackball”, you might find something similar
