How I Make Vintage Paper for Collage

Hello everyone!
Today I'm making some collage paper vintage style for a background!
I used coffee for this process, but you can use strong black tea. The tea always yields a much lighter color when I do it... It depends on the look you're going for I suppose.
My oven was at 200 degrees, but it may vary depending on the oven. Keep an eye on the paper as you bake it. Most of the papers were ready in about 7 minutes. Some took a few minutes longer.
Save your scraps if you cut blank pieces off. You can use stencils or stamps on them for interest in other projects.

I’m so glad to run across this technique because I have literally a trunk and 3 boxes, about 400 letters between my grandparents, plus all their documents, furniture receipts, postcards from France from WW1…endless ‘vintage’ cool stuff…and I couldn’t figure out how to use it in collage without destroying anything historic! I don’t even drink coffee…but I don’t have to, I just have to pour it on some printed-out cool documents! This is a great “informational” video!! LOL!!

I don't have a follow on tutorial for this one. I used liquitex matte medium to glue the papers down and a catalyst wedge to smooth them out and ensure there were no air bubbles. Then I let it dry overnight before applying the modeling paste with stencils. I hope that helps!😊❤

You use The liquid matte medium to secure the paper to the canvas? Once it dries, can you work on top of it with oil paint? Or would I have to put down a layer of clear gesso first? Your process videos are so helpful and inspiring , thank You 🙏🏾

You can use a liquid matte medium, a gel matte or gloss medium. Once it has dried, you can paint with oil on top. I would give it a full 24 hours before oil is applied to ensure the papers are completely dry.☺

Yes... Black tea works too. It comes out a little lighter in color, but it does work. The kind we drink.😁
