Sure, in a world of, “load 3 indicators and change all of the values, l2 order block chasing, vwap time frame juggling, imbalance liquidity band hunting, it’s nice to see someone explaining a more black and white approach. I liken trading to attempting to catch a squirrel with your bare hands, so any time you can simplify something like that it’s super helpful. Fought with this scenario a few times in the past month, but most of the time it was because of my inexperience of closing the hedge too early. Either way, hedging is a great risk managing method, it especially helps preventing scenarios where you would get taken out by a brief liquidity spike, since you can always decide to close the hedge as the price reverses.

That's actually the situation I am in with GBP/JPY heading for the second bounce. However I ended up hedging half way between the zones try catch it coming down, my fault for not looking left for the next zone. I have put a Buy Stop just above in case it shoots up during opening. I'll close the second hedge as soon as I get the chance. I'm also in a buy on EUR/CHF, I did hedge but I cancelled at break even just in case it flipped on me in which it did. In theory this seems very easy , but wait till you are hedged and the market goes to your initial zone of support or résistance .Then the decisions becomes very complicated ,which hedge to close and which position to hedge ,price is not guaranteed to just move from one zone after breaking through a zone where you hedged from. Hedging is not as simple as this in practice , and before you tell me it is . Try it for yourself .

What about when price is whipsawing up and down on a zone repeatedly going past where you would hedge on either side? Like, price is heading for a zone and hits in deep, so you place your sell. Then it whips up past that zone and hits your hedge, but then turns on a dime and flies back down below the zone, and then back up above the zone, and even again back down below. Are we acting on retouches of the same zone? Or are we only acting once price has moved to another zone altogether?

He answered that in the past, he is using stops with brokers that don't allow hedging. But in my experience hedging fulfils the same role as stop loss, but it's better in almost every way because you can decide what to do with it depending on what the price does. Like if it reverses immediately you can just close the hedge, but normally you would have gotten taken out.

everything good but the thing u have to remember when u do hedging is that u have to pay swap! if u are trading on higher tf it could get very high!! on daily tf price could take 2-3 weeks or even longer to come to the next level… my swap costs are often around 10-15% of the position’s profit/loss… keep in mind!

Nick, I've never traded Forex. Is there a US based exchange that works well for the hedging strategies, allowing you to open multiple trades on the same pair while keeping them separate? This is the reason hedging like this does not work . In theory this seems like magic , but in the end in many situations you will have two open positions or more with just more equity at risk and still have to make the decision which to close and hedge. Don't do this ,this will make you think that you wont take losses. You will and you need to accept it.

Hedging works for sure, however u have to have a considerable amount of risk tolerance. You can't hedge with small accounts, you need ALOT of leg room

After you hedge the first trade and it makes its way to the next zone would it be wise to close out the buy/sell that's in profit and then do a partial close of those booked profits on the losing position? This would minimize the position size of the original losing trade, slowing down the rate of drawdown if the trade continues to move against you. It probably depends, on the setup. If you went against the clear trend - making a mistake - (like expecting reversal, when PA is clearly bullish, so instead of reversal you realized price just create lower high and its picking bullish momentum, closing half on initial short and maintaining just hedge position of 1 risk position (100% original lot size hedge) is definitely viable strategy, but if i remember correctly, that hedge will eat extra margin as its not 1:1 with short position

Theoretically speaking, you can hold a trade for all time till your children inherit you. Until you close the trade, or it hits TP or SL. But picking a trade that goes in your favored direction for a full year might be super tricky by all means, and excessively, & extremely risky. Moreover, do you want to wait a whole year to take some cash home?

Martingale is double, this is equal positioning until next likely reaction zone. It works, just be prepared for drawdown. I use daily and do 5% risk over 4 zones (can be 1000 pips). Gives heaps of leg room.
