Hey Tay, have met you at several fairs Deerfield, Sandwich) and followed your travels. I imagined you had some guidance and am not surprised your mom was a key. But your obvious intelligence and drive are also key. My dad was self employed, but not really a "businessman" in the true business sense, but I branched out from him some 50+ years ago, and am still (sorta) at it. Hope to find your haunts someday soon as I have a likely job in Gilford.

Hey this is really neat! My daughter, 16, has been baking since she was 8. She started her own cottage goods bakery a year or so ago. I feel like she's learning a lot about business this way. I homeschooled her because of severe dyslexia. She recently got into Goddard College's early college dual enrollment program. So she'll be headed to Vermont for residencies twice a year. ( I went to Goddard for my MFA.) I think eventually my daughter will open her own bakery. So cool to see women/girls get into entrepreneurship. I think it's empowering to be able to own your own business and not have to work for 'the man' so to speak. Great job!

Interesting story, I do find it's amazing that you took 4 months off to hike. Most new business owners can't take a day off but I'm assuming your business is seasonal and you had one fabulous employee running the place while you were hiking. To me, that sounds like the perfect business. Good luck going forward.

Way to make things happen! The following is kinda off topic for this particular channel, but this story reminded me of it: Last spring while I was watching your AT vids you mentioned one day how you and Chet had just bought your house. That really made me think, for for the first time, that my wife and I really needed to buy our own home. We'd been living in the same rented condo unit for the past seven years, living by/dealing with people we didn't want to be around, dealing with the general headaches of apartment living, AND the place was being sold for the second time in about a year and a half. Well, by the end of July we moved into our own home! It was about time! (And only after our bid had been accepted on the house, did I tell my wife about the Zpacks Duplex that I had bought, lol) My wife says that she knew I'd love our new place because it has a fireplace. Now I just need to get all my Aspen ski posters framed.....

Great story, and I wish you many years of Profitable business. I'm very familiar with renting space in a shared space and you one own, it is so much more satisfying having complete control. Keep up the cool store videos and of course the Hiking ones too.

I really need to stop in sometime. We drive often from Vermont to see family in Maine and we take the "scenic route" around downtown Meredith, but maybe next time I won't. :) - Leigh
