I'd love to see what the GW sculptors could do to ogryns with the current technology. Even though these are classic models, the arms and head really do show the difference in detail from 25 years ago to now. You could see Mr Sledgehammer wanted pretty badly to add more definition to the skin, but its just so tough with them :) going with the old school style still made them look cool though, i just cant help wonder what they could do to them now (like the new obliterators for example)

Like it as always! I would have liked to see 1st highlight Bugman's glow then start in your other choices of color in highlights to see how that transitioned up, curious the look? love the vids, keep them up
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
I've tried the Bugman's Glow back over the basecoat and shade before, and in honesty it doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference. It's a little smoother, but you'll still need a couple of coats of Cadian Fleshtone to get that to sit right no matter how you do it. It does look a little more natural if you're blocking in areas with different shades, though; Bugman's as a layer stage over Bugman's Glow and then Reikland Fleshshade can work really well instead if you want a warmer, less sharply defined skin tone.
@alcovitch4 жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I typically do 50/50 Bugmans + Cadian after the wash stage. Typically I always mix 50/50 then solid color then mix 50/50 next highlight color etc.

Can't get enough of it! Shades and washes are a must-have in any painting arsenal. Once you've got the hang of block colours, a quick shade does most of the rest of the work for you, and with big blocks of infantry you can't go wrong with 'close enough.' ;)
@plaidpvcpipe37924 жыл бұрын
You think red weapon casings are goofy? Well my guardsmen's armor is red! Granted, I do use Khorne Red, but it's still red.
@macfenchel24184 жыл бұрын
Thousands thumbs up, really loved watching it. May I ask, I saw you often use the red-grass 2 (also older videos). Do you also have the feeling that this brush soak up plenty color which makes it tip hard to control ? And do you have a method to control that better? thanks Maestro Di Colori
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
I really like the RG brushes, too. I find the tip is usually very good. If you're having any trouble with controlling paint flow from the brush, first try less paint loaded in it; the brush is generally holding more paint than it needs and with good flow you'll need to use less paint in general.

Another question mate - what brand and size do you use for grass tufts? Going to take the plunge but range and size of tufts is huge.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
This chap is the darker of the two tuft choices from GW. Middenheim Turf, I think? They're dead good. I'd also suggest checking out both the Army Painter range and Gamer's Grass, they've got some great options.
@huwtindall70964 жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Cheers mate! I've been basing with Astrogranite and small granite chips which looks pretty cool but a bit dull so want to add some dead/burned/dry tufts to break up the rubble look on the bases. Will check out the ranges you suggest.

Excenent video man! One question: what brush are you using (skin with cadian fleshtone part)
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
That one's still my Army Painter Regiment brush. It's probably a little big in some areas, but for the larger flat areas of skin it works super well. A Medium Layer brush or equivalent will do the job, though!

I like that you don't paint the eyes. Makes me feel better about skipping them on my own models.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
It's very rare that I bother to paint eyes. When we put our miniatures on the table to play games, you simply don't see them! It also doesn't help to have a great paint job go sideways at the last second with eyes pointing in different directions...!
@jamesgoesgaming32624 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! It's hard to get right. My models often are stuck with a fixed surprised look on their faces. Better to skip that step sometimes.

Looks great :) I have one question you sprays only with Zandri Dust or you use an other primer first? I watch other videos too and u you most of your painting video colour sprays.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
With the Citadel coloured primers and Army Painter as well, you don't need a black or white primer first. They're designed as a primer and basecoat, so they save time! The one exception would be if you're using yellow primer - I'd suggest you will still get a better result with a quick white layer first, before applying yellow.

Do you prime with a spray or paint from a pot?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
Always a spray. It's a different material to straight paint, so the primer gives your next layers something to stick to. You can find some brush-on primers, but generally a spray is your best choice.
