I love texture painting like this! Really love the deep brown tones ^^ so soothing and cozy for some reason

Yes, that brown is so lovely! It has this reddish tint to it that makes it looks extremely warm~

I will definitely share this with the high school students I teach. It would be an excellent exercise for them to try, for sure! Really liked that you chose to take this on. I hope you're well and enjoyed seeing something new and unique from you! Cheers! :)

Hahaha, thank you so much! I suppose this is a good way to try different painting styles and see how realistic (or now) you can get. I'm so glad I've painted it. I'm awfully tempted to paint more xD

I adore those first washes that bloomed and gave you those knots in the wood! Regarding the washes, some pigments naturally have a larger drying shift (lightening as they dry), but also the amount of water in the wash affects the drying shift too. The more water, generally, the lighter the washes will be.

This brown was drying all over the place!! I suspect... but I have to do some testing... it might have been the paper that was causing it. This Canson paper, which I use for exercises like this one, has this weird vellum-like coating that makes the paint dry chalky when I know that there's no way that paint could be chalky. It's weird. All in all, though, it came out great, so I'm not mad at it at all :D

I loved watching this wood come to life! I think it’s important for us to just sometimes do fun silly arts that are for our own enjoyment, or to help us explore a new idea or technique or something like that. Studies are so important! And the word you’re looking for, the holes in wood, I think they’re usually called “knots.”

I definitely don't do enough of silly and fun things. I've realized just recently how much pressure I've created around my art. This year I'm trying to fix it. It's not going to be easy, but studies like this one are definitely helping.

Anita Gadzińska yeah, I’ve found that there are fewer and fewer things that I’ve been doing lately that are just for the pure enjoyment of creation. Almost everything I do is specifically for my channel, or a gift for someone else. Even when I’m just “playing around” for myself nowadays, I tend to record it just in case the footage is useful. For me, when I really get into a rut like this, I tend to just go to the local diner and sit for a while and paint the people I see. It’s really relaxing and helps bring me back to myself. Plus, the food is really good. I think I might take a page out of your book though, and do some studies of things I’ve wanted to try to get better at, even if it means I’m drawing the same leaf on a page over and over again.

Ohhh, its beautiful. I can still see some of your cartoony style in it even though its somewhat more on a realistic side sorta. I think this is a great idea for learning new texture and I think I might do it myself as part of a study. I'm excited to so more of these.. and that blue really made it pop out!

I am a beginner, but found that adding ink really helps my work! I have all the prismacolors, and just ordered 72 Arteza Fineliners, and have last time purchased a bunch od real brush pens. I feel adding those tools to my paintings are going to reallly help them pop and fix things I dont like so much! Good work!

As a beginner artist it's definitely important to try all the different tools to see which ones compliment your style the most! Good luck

Wood is so organic that you don't need to do very precise shading. As you saw, I was just doodling xD Then again... this is not realistic wood.

Love it....i would still suggest that drying naturally would keep more vibrant colors...I sometimes find some colors looses something when dryed with a heat gun.

I will have to try that! I did use the heat gun very heavy-handedly in this video >< Thank you for the tip!

Beautiful! Do you mind me asking what masking tape you use?
7 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's tricky. That masking tape doesn't have a name xD I bought it at the art store and it's the wider variety. The wide tape keeps everything more secure and the glue seems to be stronger.

Are u using hair dryer to dry the painting 🤔🤔

I used to use a hair dryer :D It would blow everything off my desk ALL THE TIME xD Nowadays I use a craft heat gun. It blows heat only, no wind.

I normally let my watercolor dry naturally. Have you ever noticed less color shit not using yur heat gun to dry it? I am really wondering. I am really thinking od using my hairdryer to keep from having to wait so long.. Thank you for a good video!
6 жыл бұрын
Heat gun doesn't cause a color shift in watercolor, it's the pigment and in my case also paper. I've used a mix of browns (for fun xD) and I've never used one of then in a big wash, so I was surprised at how much it dried back. That's just the way it works :) Hairdryer is a really good tool as well. I've used it a lot before I got the heat gun. The only down side is, of course, that you have to hold all your things down!

Anita, as a right-handed person, having all your tools (palette, water pot and so) on the right would be more comfortable for you. Just saying ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
7 жыл бұрын
Oh, I do that on purpose, actually. I stuffed my hand in my palette one too many times, so now I'm just keeping my paintbrushes on the right, because you can't mess those up xD I really like to keep my palette at the bottom of the painting (the mixed palette, not the one with paint) and I'm looking for something longer than the one I have. 3 spaces is not enough xD
