Great information. My lineage is from Portugal. I was born in the US and now trying to get citizenship. Passing the language exam is required. It is a little intimidating. You can also buy a book called EXAMES DE PORTUGUÊS CAPLE-UL, It is a preparation for the exame and has tests and even audio that you can get online..

I’ve been studying Portuguese for 9.5 years now and I’ve visited Brazil 18 times but I still can’t read or converse. I practice every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and we’ve been practicing for 6.5 years now but I still can’t understand her and I have to translate everything into English one word at a time to understand which prevents me from conversing. I can’t make out most of what people are saying. That and having to translate everything in my head or with a translator prevents me from communicating and is very frustrating. The Portuguese words don’t mean anything to me like English words do. They seem to be permanently attached to the corresponding English words.

Hi Pat! Portugues e a lingua MUITO DIFICIL!! I can totally relate. The good thing is you only speak Portuguese with your girlfriend so that helps a lot. I think pretty soon it will become second nature for you! 🤩 I've noticed that my Portuguese has become (a little) better because I'm forcing myself to speak more. I'm not sure about the private schools regarding language certification but I did my class through the country's sponsored language program, which is valid. I think you should specifically ask the school you're interested in if you will get the proper A2 certification. Good luck! 🤩
