Hey Dani, thanks for the video, I love a red squirrel but there aren’t any where I live in the U.K. we don’t even get greys in out garden, I can’t really put food out for them as I don’t want to attract animals my cat might end up hunting. I saw your Instagram story about being disappointed your videos don’t get more views, I’m sure it is quite disheartening to pour a lot of time and effort into making these videos, only to find they aren’t seen by many people. I’m sure if you spoke to most people who’s channels are now flourishing they would tell you that it took a while for their work to get attention. I wish I had the courage to give up my job to do something I was really passionate about so I really hope it works out for you. All the best Dani and please don’t give up I’m sure it will get better.

We don't have many squirrels in our neighborhood, but a while back I spotted one when I was walking through the forest. He ran up a tree before I got a chance to take a photo. When I got close to the tree I took a few snaps of him sitting high up on a branch. You could barely see him, but when I got home I cropped the images and I could swear he was grinning at me thinking "na, na, you can't catch me!" Btw, great background track by UFO - Rock bottom. I'm an old gezer who still listens to that stuff :)

We have so many red squirrels around our house, but they a really shy and I think, I need to start paying them for photos, probably in hazelnut currency. High burst rates aren't an issue since I use mirrorless cameras, and my Olympus E-M1 II even allows to travel back in time before the shutter has been triggered, using its "Pro Capture" function.

Another great video Dani, you are very generous with your information and I’m sure people will find this helpful. You started out with a clear objective, took us through the set-up, described the learning experiences and came up with the goods, meeting or exceeding your desired outcome. Some of the photos are really unusual and inspiring. Your presentation style is both informative and relaxed which means you hold your audiences and deserve a lot of likes and comments, well done!

Beautiful photos but even better is the music in the background. Should be Metallica, I've seen them live so often here in Germany. Lars Ulrich comes from near you (Denmark). The best time for squirrels here is when the walnuts are ripe, then you see so many of them in parks and gardens. Greetings from Germany (Lower Saxony)

Watching the video and listening how you depend on manual focus on fast moving subject crosses my mind you might need Sony Alpha1. The downside is the price $6500 but based on the images wild photographers have shown the 30 FPS speed and AF never missed a photo when automatically focused on eagle approaching the fish. All the frames were perfect. In case you earn steady income based on photos it might give you financial boost. The other thing you might considering chasing a specific type of background is to setup a white cloth to get the result. In overall I think you have exceeded all the other wildlife photographers. You definitely come to complex ideas and technical setup. Anyway - subbed also.

Hi Dani. Been looking at a few of your videos. I see you have a 300mm f2.8. Is that a 1.4x converter on the back? Do you use image stabilisation, when on a tripod? If yes do you use is 1 or 2? I have a 300mm f2.8L and a 500mm f4L. But only just got these lenses. Body is a Canon 1dx mk1. Thanks for your help. Keith UK 🇬🇧

Camera setup: After watching your camera trapping, why haven't you setup an automated system? You could even setup your tripping mechanism pointing up at the sky, just below where the squirrels would leap from. Challenge: Squirrels love walnuts more than hazelnuts. Walnuts blow all the other nuts away on fat content and the preserve well when they bury them. Try hanging a walnut or hazelnut (in Oregon we call them filberts) from a string in their flight path between perches. Attach the string to the nut with a light piece of tape, just strong enough to hold the nut. Have it high enough they'll need to reach for it. Make sure the nut releases from the string easily so there aren't any mishaps. BTW, I have a couple dozen red fox squirrels that hunt me down for walnuts. If you want hand feeding tips, just ask.

Pre focussing and then setting the lens to manual implies you don't use back button focus. I'd be interested to know if there's a reason not to? PS I'm enjoying your videos and think you're a very talented wildlife photographer.

You do realise that what they're doing isn't going after the food. It's attack squirrel training :D Once they master it, they'll launch their offensive and you'll be traumatised for the rest of your days!! :D :P You'll never photograph another squirrel, again!!! :P :P
