How I Play PCVR Games On A Quest 3

I've had a lot of people as me how I setup and use Virtual Desktop to play PCVR games on my Meta Quest 3. This video will show you exactly how I do it, including the settings I use to make it happen.

You forgot to mention that on your dedicated router for your quest 3, that you must be connected to the 5GHz channel only. Also, the hevc 10 bit and av1 10 bit should only be used with 40 series gpu. From your videos, it looks rather laggy it should be smooth.

It’s laggy because I’m capturing through oculus rather than VD for this video. So the capture you see doesn’t reflect virtual desktop or what I see. Unfortunately I could t make oculus software lag less

The reason you're getting so much lag and an unplayable experience connecting the Quest 3 to the home wifi is because your PC is connected to it through wifi as well instead of with a cable. If you're able to plug it in, it would probably work just as good.

Nope. Not true. I have not had a single problem with that in the 4+ years I’ve used virtual desktop. It only happens with the quest 3. As I stated, the quest 2 has no issues whatsoever. And I’ve never had a problem being on wifi. You can also see in the performance graph where the bottleneck is and it was in the connection between the quest and my pc. Not anything other than that. I have damn near a decade of professional IT and tech experience. I’m pretty competent in networking and troubleshooting. I can absolutely assure you that it was an issue between my quest 3 and pc and not due to my pc being on wifi. It was the video stream not the connection to the internet. But I’m glad yours works without hiccup. Maybe you should do some research on how many people experience this problem even with wired setups

How much bandwith do you get with wifi 6 ? I'm using my old R6400 router in wifi 5, i have a max of 200mbs which seems to be enough.

I’m only getting 200mbs since that’s the cap for virtual desktop. 200 is more than enough. Ever since I isolated things I’ve had nothing but a great experience with the quest 3 and VD. VD is still the best wireless pcvr solution in my opinion

But can u play any vr game through this, even if the game is not from steam vr and just downloaded from browser?

So this is how I play pcvr. If I want to play a game that is only on meta I connect to my home wifi and play it on the quest in stand alone mode. I don’t know if there are browser based vr games. 😬. So I do have access to meta games and pcvr, but for me I only usually play pcvr since I prefer to buy my games on steam that way I can use headsets other than just the quest.

Can this process also be used with air link? or just steam vr?

I'm not sure I fully understand the question. Airlink is a similar solution to Virtual Desktop. Airlink is actually free and comes with the quest, which is a huge advantage. Virtual Desktop requires a paid app. Both will let you play PCVR on your quest though! So they are similar, but different. I find VD to operate a lot smoother and with better graphics than Airlink, but I know plenty of people who use Airlink. I would try Airlink first, since it's free, and only use Virtual Desktop if you need better quality or want some of the features it provides.

I do something similar. With prismxr it connects to the comp through my usb 3.1 c port though

I haven’t heard of prismxr. I’ll have to check that out. I really like being wireless though. I use my crystal for wired things like flight and racing sims, but I may get rid of it for a big screen beyond. Still on the fence!

You don't need expensive router to make it work, I have ax53, 4x cheaper, network ethernet to lan1, pc ethernet to lan2, AP with only wifi 6 enabled, on pc wifi is completely disabled, and it works, same speed as axe75 and I have "the internet" in my hmd.

crazy how different it can be from person to person. I couldn't connect to my home network and have it run smooth with the Quest 3, but the Quest 2 runs no problem on my home network. If you do some googling you'll see a ton of people had issues with Quest 3 and their wifi 6 routers. So if you are using Quest 2 I completely agree with your statement and if you are using a Quest 3 I think you are one of the lucky ones!
