Nice job adding the cooling inlets on the intake, i have a similar setup on the 454 in my 63 1/2 ton, i run 1/2" copper tubes from the back of the intake to the discharge side of the water pump, i find this setup adds a significant amount of cooling capacity, i'm running just a 2 core rad and have rock solid 180* temp even when towing in the summer. Definitely a worthwhile mod, thumbs up !

Just a heads-up wrt the match-porting at the gaskets. Even though you're dumping the air/fuel mixture into a larger hole (the port of the head), it's still going to cause a small eddy, and small eddies are more powerful than you might think! Think about how powerful a pinion gear is, and you'll begin to realize it'll be detrimental to overall flow due to the turbulence it will surely cause.

Put a steel tray over the openings for the cam lobes that may sling oil onto the bottom of the intake. This will save 7 tables spoons of oil before it runs back to the pan. Otherwise I would never bother with it. Also, the goal it to produce the same horse power per cylinder if you want to go fast. So if grinding inside the intake runners, it is best to use a bench flow tester. Find the one runner with the highest flow, clean & smooth it, re-test then make the other seven runners equal so volumetric efficiency is equal to all 8 cylinders. But oil sticking to the bottom of the intake? Seriously? Get an accumulator and install it with open solenoid for times when oil pressure drops depending on how the vehicle is driven. Best of luck. Heat transfer, watch the video. It's impossible to balance an engine, too many factors cylinder to cylinder. Even NASCAR knows that and why they optimize each cylinder. It's a myth that more than often leads to hurting some cylinders and reducing total power.

@@BOOT If heat transferred is the issue, run an air gap intake. There are many ways to build one engine. Job one is to determine use, power band and limitations, as those found in certain race applications. That is one point never addressed. From engine to gearing would be different between 1/8th mile to 1/4 mile track racing. I never cared about spending thousands to millions and turning left all afternoon then ending up at the same place you started. I see no fun in doing it, watching it or participating in it. More fun for driver but boring job for the tech. Be it direct drive plate for “Pre-66” Power-Glide with dual pumps, get everything right for late model racing then twist the driveshaft coming out of turn 3. Or building a “Rock-Crusher” for 68 RS Camaro only to see the driver over rev the engine as they missed a gear. Spend more money install a “V-Gate” shifter, then pop a U-Joint. To hell with that. Hey Boot, great video, So i'm thinking of buying one of those eBay Vortec intakes ... What is your opinion of the fit up on the engine ? does everything line up and cover pretty close ? tks

I think they are good for the diy type that doesn't mind correcting them if needed, I've seen worse big brand intakes but also better. Too many factors to say if they will just drop on and line up on your combo, as could be said bout any intake. Not to mention they are plenty of different generic intake versions and some could be better than others. The two I bought are from the same merchant and are close enough to the same. Just make sure if you buy them on ebay that the merchant has a good return policy

@@BOOT Good to know ..yeah the one im looking at is the same as what your playing with. I'm actually staying away from the Professional Products Vortec intake, thats why im looking at the Jegs one, the Professional Products version was polished on the outside but the port casting inside was horrendous, literally the worst/roughest i had ever seen on any intake ! the topper was fit up, i must have spent 2 hours pulling it down, there was barely enough material to cover the red silicone beads on the gaskets and i think i pulled that intake down 4 times before it just covered everything. yup fingers crossed on that one and it worked. I've used Edelbrock 2116 before and it went on nice, i used grade 8 threaded rod and made studs , i topped with polished stainless acorn nuts and washers for a nice clean look.

ebay no brand, looks very sim to the Jegs one I linked in description. Well at this point in time but that link should last a lot longer than an ebay one. Just search on ebay "SBC aluminum dual plane" and add vortec if those are your heads.

Not run it yet but based on my opinion it's a good design, maybe not as good quality as some USA intakes but I finish all myself anyway.

That raw casting could only be improved upon. Not impressed. Who makes that? Hope it was cheap.

Big waste of time does absulutely nothing messing with the bottom of the intake.

The same is said about a lot of small mods, everybody has their own mods they like to do while others claim they do nothing. Science backs this one up, the same way a radiator works surface area and heat transfer. Many things come down to surface area if yah think about it.
