I just got a nine-pointer, and this is EXACTLY what I need! Thank you so much. Chris (in Maine)

I would love for you to make that vid on the half cast method on fish once deer seasons over when you have more time!

I'll try to keep that in mind. Thanks for the idea

Wow cool I never thought of that... I cut off everything I can and let sit covered in salt and then use wire brush to scrub off extra salt before mounting
@americantaxidermycompany4772 жыл бұрын
Ya. That's just takes way too long when you run 100+ per season in addition to birds. Fish, and lifesize mammals

If you just barely simmer the skull plate for a couple hours everything comes off clean and the bone is white. I have never had a problem with the skull falling apart but I leave a little more plate than he did. If you boil the sh*t out if it if course it will fall apart

Takes me way too much time for that. I would be finished with the days skull caps by the time I even had my boiler set up and up to temp.

Can you still do this method if you’ve already put borax on the skull cap and it’s dried out or do you need to do this immediately after you cut the skull cap?

Im having trouble getting the skin and fur off the forehead between and infront of the antlers where it meets the skull. I havent tried many things, but wondering if you had any tips

Boil it

I use 2 things to get the skin free from the skull in that area around the antlers. 1 a good knife and 2 a screw driver.

Honestly, all you have to do is cut all the meat off and the hair around the bases and wash it with a hose then dry it with paper towels. Set it inside the barn and in about a week everything hardens up and turns white with no smell. I have over 100 hanging in my barn some from 35 years ago and they look the same as the new ones. Simple and it works every time. My first buck I used a torch and the skull bone got brittle and broke in half. I glued it back together but you can tell it looks like crap.

That's a great way to have them hanging around however that's not the best for using them in a mount

DONT DO THIS around the antlers, I barely started and it's burning the base of the antlers. Boiling it now and its peeling off. I could see torching any remaining bits. Looks like shaving everything off with a scalpel was how you avoided boiling.

I don't like to burn look.
