How I Prepare My Rig Before Popping Lures & Jigging!

Using Okuma's HC Popping Rod w/a Cedros 14K Spinner Spooled By Big Water Line Spooler!
Why would you spend hundreds of dollars, or even thousands buying fishing tackle just to go out & fish, but spend the first 30min cutting line to tying knots & adjusting lengths? Wouldn't it be nice to walk along the shoreline, see the water boil, then just start casting? Well you can! Just don't be lazy, put some time into your hobby. Get everything ready ahead of time. Most seasoned anglers have learned this over the years, you will too.
I have rigs & equipment pre-set for plugging, jigging, spin casting, sliding to crabbing if it's day or night. Yes, it can take time to prepare. But why do it on location when supplies & tools are at home? The day before i just spooled this reel. Today i plan on plugging so i'm cutting line to tying knots. I'm pre-rigging several lures for a full day of popping lures. This was requested by several friends who always ends up borrowing my rigs. So guys this video is for you!

Mahalos for the shout..lol..cool video..popped on my screen..great gear for sure..like the 8.3. but its tad too big for me..tops was a 7.6 Elite tech.. Papa Joe lure developed in 2015 has garnered 22 GTs...my goto good luck..

8'3" not bad. I even like 10ft for distance, but not longer. Best all around length i like is 7'9" for medium action. I have rotator damage so i need to be careful. The first day plugging with this rod using 4-6oz plugs i felt it that night. Dropped to 2-3oz & no issues afterwards. Next time i'll go heavier again but just not all day. My right rotator obviously isn't as good as yours. Because of bowling it hasn't had time to heal properly. Until recently because of Covid i haven't bowled in months. Now it feels ok.

Good video Chris & greetings from England! Nothing wrong with preparation at home - a lot of us Salt water fishermen here in the UK make up our rigs at home before going out. Have you thought about changing the Treble hooks on your lures to singles? You would have laughed here yesterday - I was given an Okuma Carbonite CBF-155 baitrunner reel, and I could never get the rear baitrunner adjustment knob to move since I have had it. I spent an hour or more yesterday trying to dismantle it & service it, but couldn't get the side plate off because of the bit around the rear. I nearly gave up, but thought I would try a big pair of grips gently on the Knob, and it freed itself up, so my little Okuma is now fully functioning!! Tight liines mate!

Must be COLD up there by now! Glad to hear others pre-make their rigs. Here in Hawaii most just grab their gear & do the rigging on site. I try to be in the water in 10min. I even place my frozen baits in the fridge the night before. Once my baits are in i start hunting for live bait.

My setup for plugging is a Ten foot custom rod from Shakespeare and remember the Ceymar I showed you at the POP expo? That’s my reel with 40 pound braid. I use the FG knot for my rub line then I use a swivel then like a foot of leader to the rapala loop knot then to the lure

Killer looking rod, 8’3 is the perfect length for boat & shore plugging🤙🏽. I use a 8’8 since I’m a little on the short side lol. I like to FG rizzuto my leader to my main line so I can cast a longer leader thru the guides.

Good knot! This rod has quality component Fuji parts right down to the #16 tip. 30/70 split for ultimate hoisting power! The reel is extremely light because of their new proprietary materials. Great combo!

Depends. If there's no swivel on my lure/popper then i make a short leader where i use a barrel swivel.

I got a 13' east coast black whole with a shimano twin power 10k with 50# braid. Thoughts?

I wasn't aware Black Hole has a 13ft surf casting rod now. I had the 12ft before. I also had several TP's as well. Sounds like a solid rig. You must have a lot of line on if you're using 50lb braid. I'd use either 65lb or 50lb. Over a year ago i hit a 5ft GT. The only reason i didn't run out of line on my 8K spinner was because i used 50lb. Like i said you have a solid rig.

If it's Okuma either the H or MH 8'3" Hawaiian Custom Popping Rod or the Rockaway HD Surf Rods. For reels on both the new Cedros Spinners 14000. Or if money is no object the Makaira 10000 Spinner on a PCH Rod.

It is! Even i don't know what the new proprietary material is. I suspect it's a carbon based material. This year the US Navy launched it's first Carbon based naval ship. Super fast & light-weight. Also the first all luxury Carbon based car was revealed. I suspect most fishing manufacturers will be swapping out aluminum for carbon. Much lighter & tougher.
