I pruned my Hellebore "properly" for the first time back in January. As soon as I saw the tiny little buds peeking through, I cut out every leaf stem. I'd not done that before because in 7b mine doesn't get brown and crunchy, so I only ever cut out what looked old and tired. Within a week, maybe two, there was a bouquet of flowers coming up from the ground. And it was beautiful. ❤ The new leaves are filling in and it all looks so fresh. Thank you, Laura 😊

I have two vanilla strawberry hydrangea standards that I bought last year. They really flop a lot in our heavy rains here in Northwest Arkansas (also a 6b, but much more humid). I have followed your advice and cut them back quite a bit. I really hope they will get stronger this year. You introduced me to panicle hydrangeas several years ago, starting with the firelight tidbit. It does amazingly every year, even though it feels so brutal when I cut it back! I know you worry about repeating videos, but it is really helpful to see this several years in a row. Keep doing what you're doing! 🤩🌸👍🏻

🌺 one thing that I think helps a lot with my Hydrangeas is not cutting them back at all, or not as much. I have noticed that when I leave the old stem’s/ bark it’s kinda like a natural “tomato cage”. Leaving the old growth helps to hold up the large Blumes. It is hard not to cut them back in the spring because they don’t look nice at all. But I think it’s really given me a fuller beautiful Hydrangea. I don’t have to worry about the flowers lying on the wet ground after rain or watering. I don’t have to worry about all the bugs 🐜 crawling around on them because they are to heavy and touching the soil either. I hope this is helpful to you! :) Happy Gardening!! 🌼 🌱 🌺 🌿 🐝 🦋

Your property is Stunning 🌺. So Beautiful!! I Love watching & learning from your channel. My favorite flower is a Hydrangea, but I have trouble with them. I live in Utah zone 6. The front of my home faces North and I planted 3 Hydrangeas in my front yard 2 years in a row. They died each time I planted them. The past 3 years I planted “Proven Winners Hydrangeas” in my backyard. They got about 3 hours of morning sun afternoon shade and 2-3 hours of evening sun. I planted 3 and 2 survived. The next spring I replaced the one that died, it did ok last year. Now 2023 I only have one that survived. 😞 I’m so sad. Do you have any tips that might help??? I did it a little earlier than last year., but I had such success after pruning them late winter last year that I couldn’t resist getting out there and cleaning it up, getting it ready for a bountiful year.🤞🏻 Hopefully I didn’t go at it too early. 😬

I’ve recently gone back and re-watched your first garden tour series - when you walked us through the garden for the first time. It was such a beautiful and inspiring established garden, but looking back I understand it now, that it was missing the overarching structure and “flow”. It’s very interesting to see how you and Aaron are redesigning everything and gradually transforming the space. It showed me how I can do the same and “dare” taking out trees and hedges and making my garden to my own. It just opened up a completely new levels of gardening. Thank you!! Just curious: what happened to the Angel Statue? I don’t think I saw that in your recent videos.
@Ibis333
@Ibis333 Жыл бұрын
At 3:01 you can see the wings of the statue peaking up just behind Laura through the lilac branches. I know she calls it an angel, but I'm pretty sure it's a statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. That's a fairly classical depiction, with the wings, flowing drapery, the torch, and an unfurled scroll in hand.

He was my Morkie, who passed away 3 years ago, this coming April 12. He used to lay in my lap and wash his face JUST like that..... Dang it, now my eyes are leaking, thinking about him. Phew, I thought the pain was gone, until you did that, Russell. S👀ing the chicken coop in the background, reminded me that I wanted to mention something about your thoughts on having people park in front of the girls home. This is just my opinion, but I would reconsider that plan; the girls are healthy and thriving with the good healthy food and treats that you give them. If you start having people park there, they will start breathing those fumes and exhaust every time someone pulls up and leaves.... Like I said, just my opinion. What a delightful video!!!🤗😊🤗 Thank you for sharing, Laura and Aaron!!! Have a Blessed and Beautiful day/night 🌞/🌜✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️ 🌐 everyone!!! Kimberley F in the Arizona desert 🌞🌵💞🏜😎 (Zone 9b) USA 🇺🇸

Great job as always! Your gardens are so beautiful and such an inspiration. Is it possible to talk about North facing shady areas? Maybe when you redo the coop😊 We recently changed the entryway to our home and I feel like I need to add a couple shrubs that are shade tolerant, deer resistant and low maintenance. 😀 I have a list of what used to be in the space but I don’t necessarily want to replant those. I’m hoping to add Hellibore and maybe astilbe but I feel like I need a bit more structure first.

Those Hydrangea flowers would make a good natural fabric dye or wood stain! Note to Laura, Would you consider planting clematis against the house to climb on trellis between the windows in this area? I think clematis work very well near the foundation of a building because, in my experience, the roots are more delicate, less likely to do damage to a structure compared to woodier plants. The vines are also delicate and light and not likely to damage the trellis or structure above ground too. Just a thought. Love everything you do and the community you have brought together. Words are not enough!
