Hi, Fascinating video once again. I am a hobbyist beekeeper, the varroa mites shown are the female of the species. If you look hard at the sticky sheet you are bound to find the male. They are much smaller and paler in colour. They also look more spider like in appearance. You may also find pollen beetles and sugar mites which are interesting to view. Brilliant video, thank you.

Don't the trachael mite, the small hive beetle, the bee louse, and much more.

No city on this planet has more residents then microbe-hunter has subscribers, he’d need the population of New York City plus 150,000 more, there is no stadium with nearly that many seats, thank you for your teachings you are a professor and goodness gracious you do profess so thank you.

I have found evidence of bees biting in my own hives and not just the dreaded Varroa. A colony that 'learns' to bite the mites is quite a strong colony. The term allocated to this behaviour is Bee Bite, funnily enough. They also bite or chew their way through newspaper which we use at the end of the season to Unite a weak colony with another or a stronger colony ensuring they have a better chance of surviving the Winter. Evidence of this is usually found on the Varroa tray at the bottom of the hive, You will find tiny pieces of chewed or bitten newsprint. It looks fascinating under the microscope.

Idk where to see how many channels I follow, certainly don’t want to follow more then I can watch but microbe hunter would be the absolute last that I would remove, out of over 200 so thank you again microbe-hunter and happy microbe hunting as always.

Interesting, thank you for the unique microscopy of nature I would never see because I focus on my interests. However I enjoy seeing your knowledge too.🐝🇺🇸🌹

Thank you for sharing this video. I would like to know more for bleaching varroa techniques. Looking forward for nex video to varroa. Perhaps a next video on nosema, bee gut biology, pollen, or honey under the microscope.

I wouldn't like to be the person assigned to the task of counting these mites and then having to separate those with legs from those without - how tedious. Fascinating stuff, though, and again nice microscopy.

I was thinking of buying an entry-level microscope to dip my toes. Microscopy is amazing.
@candynewton49452 жыл бұрын
Save and buy an intermediate microscope, our experience is entry level microscope is limiting in every view. Maybe ask this man what cheaper one is better? Just commenting on this because we bought entry level for children and did not work well. We bought more expensive and voila! One of my mottos: "You never regret buying quality, if you take care of it, it will last a lifetime." Save your money month after month, in a year or two, you'll have enough to buy quality.🇺🇸🖒🌹

@@candynewton4945 It's one of those hobbies that requires research before buying. I've checked Amazon and there are so many different types, styles, magnification, options, etc.. Which Microscope did you end up purchasing?

@@JohnDuthie to be honest, our children are grown and I do not remember, however research to find the microscope you need today would be necessary. The best recommendations for today's market would be from this man. I see he has affiliate links and a shop on this page. If it were me, I'd start here and ask his advice. The beauty of KZbin. 😉🇺🇸👍

@@candynewton4945 Thanks for the advice! I have already found his second channel along with videos on what to look for when buying and traps to avoid. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I already have 100 other hobbies haha

Hi Oliver, is it possible that the mite's extremities were entrapped in some biologically defensive feature of the bee? Thanks for showing; fascinating
@ColinTimmins2 жыл бұрын
"The reflection might be disturbing." No, the mites are disturbing. I can't stand most parasitic creepy crawly things but I still find them fascinating. Especially when they are stuck between two pieces of glass under a microscope. lol Edit: The bees can bite the mites leg's off? Brutal... Go bees GO! Go get them! =]

Hi, I also have a microscope and I have seen a lot of organisms, but I haven't really figured out what each organism is, or what species it is or the name, so I was wondering if there is a way that I could send picture to someone and they could tell me what the organism in the picture really is?

@runesmom12 жыл бұрын
Maybe, is it possible that the little legs of the mites get broken off & remain stuck to the sticky plastic foil when the mite is removed from the sticky foil? Maybe that’s why some of them have their legs broken off?
@Microbehunter2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible that the mite becomes damaged during processing. But in the case of the electron micrograph, this was caused by the bees. There was a separate study done on this topic.
