I just started watching your videos. I am already thinking that what I will be wanting to do is create a song by flying a scratch guitar track of my own into the project, tempo and time signature would be noted, then add the chord chart with intro, verses, prechoruses/choruses, bridge, break and outro, then start looking for a style that works and generate, say, a specific bass part in that style that I like, save/freeze that bass track, exactly as played once I've got it nailed, then look for another instrument in that or another variation of that style.....something that works, generate that instrument until I find exactly what I'm looking for, rinse/repeat with the next instrument until I've got essentially my own group of musicians...my band, playing exactly what I want for that particular song, flying those tracks into my DAW and finishing it there. I'd like to save that "band" for other compositions in the same general genre as well. This was a wonderful tutorial. I'll wager you have done what I have in mind.

Henry, aside from anything to do with music or BIAB, you are a gifted communicator and I've loved your sincerity and easy going approachable style from the very first time I discovered you a couple of months ago! The benefit that I've gotten from you the most is to simply know that something was possible with BIAB, regardless of the details of how to do it! By the way, I'm a white man! :-)

As far as societal ills of today I wrote a song that reflects a vision through the eyes of the black perspective. It's not targeting anyone. Just a perspective. I hope when I release it that it's viewed with an open mind. Oh, and by the way my family is very very very very mixed !! :-)

Thanks, Henry! I would like to know where you get and how you compose your chords to your song projects? My source is a Guitar Tabs app but while they give great chords above the words, they don’t write out the actual music using bars, so it takes some time fiddling with the chord change placements. Thanks, Wick

Actually sometimes I just use a standard songbook with Piano chords and play around with them. The key is to get them in first before you start auditioning styles. If you listen to my rendition of "The Look of Love" I just took the standard chords, found a BIAB style that I liked and I was off and running.

I’m loving BIAB. And I appreciate all your help. One of the things that kind of bugs me though is, particularly on slow songs, I can’t get away from a two bar account in. This is a good example of how long it takes to start the damn song. LOL Is there anyway to change that to a one bar count in?

There is an option setting where you can change or even eliminate the count-in. If I'm going to export over to my DAW I eliminate the count-in.

You have very good and informative videos. My question is can you use Band In A Box for a live performance and how do you go about doing that? Thank you.
@henryclarke54073 жыл бұрын
I have heard of guys that do that. They pre-program their song list and play the backing from a laptop. Usually these are solo artists like piano players or guitarists. So the answer is yes you can do that but I don't really see the need since I can create the tracks and just play live to backing tracks.

Thank you Henry for this video. But what do I do when the title of the song is not in Biab database ? How can I norrow my search to the closest styles that would be OK ?
@henryclarke54072 жыл бұрын
Hi. I try hard to find a song that is similar to the one I'm looking for. Then I use that song to attempt to find a good match. If that fails I'll try to use the drum and rhythm patterns and sort by style and tempo. I can usually find something that works using that method. I will say that I've rarely not found either the song I was after or a good substitute to use in my search. Hope this helps.

Hi just got the program. Is there a way to move the two dots that makes it repeat the song? I know if I set the Measures it sets from first measure to wherever I set it to. But sometimes there is another part of the song other than verse and chorus that comes at end of songs. That I don’t want to play through the two or three times the chorus and verses play. Hope Im explaining this right? But maybe you can lead me to a video explaining how I can do that? Thank you!
@henryclarke54076 ай бұрын
Hi. My preferred method is to not use ANY Repeats, Coda, etc.. I set ALL my songs to 1 Chorus, 80 Bars to start and write the song out long hand. No repeats. I have found that works best for me because I have found repeats and things are inconsistent at best. I hope I've answered your question and this helps.

My "songwriting" is nothing more than me warbling words over a strummed guitar & I'm not that great at either. BUT I have managed to record them on a Tablet for posterity. They are for my family. Is it possible just to play MY mp3's into BIAB & let it decypher what I have already done and only then for me to try to add/subtract tracks from its massive lists to pick the best backing tracks?
@henryclarke54073 жыл бұрын
Ha :-) The Audio Chord Wizard is pretty good at extrapolating the chords from an MP3 but I don't know of any software that will decypher the entire MP3 vocals and all. What you could do is run the Audio Chord Wizard, extrapolate the chords, pick a style that works, and recreate the song in the style you like. Of course you'd have to sing it over. My Tutorial Audio Chord Wizard shows you you can do this. Check it out. It may be helpful. Henry

You shouldn't have to mess with the Percentage Tempo button. That changes the tempo by a percentage. What you want to do is change the BPMs. That also changes the tempo and is a better indication. I only use the BPM tab to either speed up or slow down a song.

@@PeterKirkMusician I have no idea. Seems you have problems that I've never experienced. My setup is a Dell XPS with 20 GB of RAM running Windows 10. I run BIAB directly from the hard drive version. My mics are standard USB mics (when I sing into BIAB) and if I want to play into BIAB I use a Focusrite USB interface. Everything works fine. When I pick a style even if it says they typical tempo is "X" I just change the BPMs. One thing that does affect changing the tempo for certain styles is that if the time signature is different (for example trying to put a 6/8 against a 4/4 key signature) the styles do not always play correctly. I think instructions are pretty clear. For questions of this nature I suggest you join the Forum and post. I find it a great resource for technical questions no covered in the manual and there are really some smart folks that monitor the forum. Good Luck.
