Hey Jay, I've been watching your videos for several years now and have empathized with your journey during the process. I've enjoyed seeing your transformation and have especially appreciated your sharing your sturm und drang (it takes some courage and evolving maturity to be able to do so). You can share your love of Paris and France, but it doesn't have to define who you are (unless you choose to do so). Thanks for sharing your life with us, you be you!

Just subbed the new channel! This sounds like a really healthy (and long time coming) reconciliation in parsing out your multi-faceted, multi-passionate self. I've seen you really struggle with these identities, even from when you first moved to Paris and started getting traction, simply because Paris was now the backdrop of your life. Naturally, your excitement spilled over; why wouldn't you want to share your city with everyone? I do, however, have MANY thoughts about giving up coffee.

The odd thing I've noticed about "giving up" things like certain types of food or certain habits (TV, etc) is that while I'm indulging those things, they feel like such a part of my identity that I can't imagine "myself without them." But when I move into a "new identity," I notice those things fall away and I don't really miss them... so they weren't "really me" to begin with.

I came to you just for Paris information and then I got to know you and wanted to know more. I'm back from Paris for two weeks now and still watch you every day. I have been weight lifting and occasionally other types of exercise mixed in since I was in my 20's. 67 now and love weight lifting the best still, but having to mix in cardio for the heart more. Wish you the best on your life shake up. Shake ups are almost always good to make you stretch and grow. Even the painful ones. Rooting for you and always praying for you!

I came for the daily vlog, which was an interesting concept to me, back in the day. I happened to be fascinated by American expats who do it on their own. As I watched, you seemed like a nice young’n, trying to figure life out. Cool. Oh, I get to see a bit of Paris in the background, nice! One of the more recent channels I subscribe to, is by a French woman, living in Paris. It’s more about her trying to awkwardly figure life out. It’s called Cams. By the way, she is single. 😉

As with everything, moderation is key to anything you do. When I was a young rower, 10 years old, I had the urge to row competing. That was a nice sentiment but my body didn't comply. No matter what I did, I never broke a 70kg mark, more than that, if I didn't train, I lost weight fast. Somehow my weight limit holds steady around 62kg +/- 1kg. Today I can live with that, young me had a hard time dealing with it. Stopped rowing at some point in my 20's, switch to flying gliders and had to lug 5-10kg lead every time going up. So yeah, I know how it feels...

"Stop running" is an extremist position some strength trainers push for maximum weight lifting goals. The other extremists are tiny armed distance runners (or bikers) who cannot even lift a barbell because their gym time consists of light resistance machines like you show in your videos. But there is a middle ground where running and lifting heavy weights meet. Strong chest and arms (without extra useless bulk), decent half-marathon times, and a skinny waist are the signs of someone who is doing things right. Be cautious around extremist programs that don't include running and lifting heavy weights. Always incorporate both.
