Another huge variable is the amount of time you had your locs. The fact that you were only locked less than two years helped also. I’ve notice people who were lived longer tend to retain less length.

Journee2God this is very very true. I have 4b with no curl pattern on my temples. My hair is also very fine and soft all over. These locs will lose the most length when I comb them out. The 3c hair that I have loses almost no length. I was also “snapping” my locs so I can expect my hair to be kinda layered like a used a razor on it. I will be wearing 2 strand twists for a couple years while clipping the edges slowly until it grows out.
@yobiwolrd076 жыл бұрын
Felicia Harris I made the exact same comment and I didn't even read this one but you're right it's her hair texture I believe that Hispanic or even a Caucasian will have an easier time combing it out then someone of African descent who has very tight coils. Their hair will be up to their shoulders or less than that if they comb it out

if you do this and have type 4 hair, use grease(blue magic), coconut oil, raw african sheabutter, a wax(with wax AND mineral oil in the ingredient ), soft and beautiful botanicals deep conditioning hair masque, and s curl activator in the white and blue spray bottle. Never use regular conditioner and or water to remove matting on type 4 hair. The scurl will be like water, w/o the side effect of water. I helped a cousin of mine completely remove her long 4c loc doing this. and she retained all the length. past waist length. I learned it from removing matting from my own 4c hair, after I observed I needed grease, and that shed hair will only slide out if my hair is greasy, not with water unless i want to break off my hair with it. i'm lucky I got to her first as she was going to cut it. Now she's extremely happy and I'm proud of it. I wish I had recorded it, but I'm not social media like that. If I get the opportunity to do that again, I will tho. A hercules seamless comb is good, one with both a fine and wide tooth on opposite sides. You just layer it, spray, and the hair melts and slides due to the friction being removed. Especially soft and beautiful botanicals masque, melts tangles.

I think one of the main things that factored into her being able to comb it out as her hair texture. The loser the hair texture the easier it is to comb out

I'm almost done combing out my daughter's 2.5 year old locs. She has 4c hair and I was shocked by the amount of length she retained. When I loc'd her hair, it was not quite shoulder length. He retained length after 2.5 years is now almost waist length. I agree that not over maintaining and maintaining a good moisture/wash regimen factors into it.

Thank you for sharing! Everything you said makes perfect sense. One more thing that people don’t think about - everyone’s hair sheds after a certain number of years. Some people’s hair grows longer in that amount of time than others. Most people won’t grow floor length hair under any circumstance. We all have a maximum length.

Yes. Your video was helpful. My locks are over 10 years old. I'm so tired of them!! Your comments were right on. And if wish I knew them before, i.e., don't re--twisr your locks too often. I did not do this because I had over 100 locks. Question: how does one prepare to remove/come out locks? Some people on you tube have lost 75 percent of their hair. I can see this. Particularly if the locks were subjected to bleach and other harmful treatment. Thanks 😊

Thank you for sharing your video. A couple of things I want to address: 1. Successfully combing out your locks and maintaining the length is solely based on how long you had them. If you had them for 2 years or less----- you may be successful in maintaining your length ( this vary based based on your hair type)-- because your locs will take a few years to reach the mature stage. Remember your locs are a living and breathing thing; over time hair will die off and stay within the loc 2. Also, locs are not a protected style...lol 3. palm rolling your locs is only done at the root and base-never all the way down the loc
@NaturalNirvana7 жыл бұрын
EMPRESS KAY Hey! I didn't think about time being a factor. I can definitely see that making a difference, but I don't think it's solely the only factor. I never stated that locs are a protective style. I did not get locs as a protective style. As I mentioned in the video, I didn't even know that you could comb out locs. It wasn't until later when I no longer wanted to continue my journey that I learned that was an option. I was fully ready to cut my hair off, but later decided not to. I have seen and know people who palm roll their locs all the way down to the ends, which is why I specified that that is something I didn't do😊.

Its not really how you retained your length but how is it still thick? Short hair story: I got my first perm in the second grade. Hair became mad short then I was wearing braids and got another perm in the 8th grade and went natural in 11th and was a loose natural in until my 3rd year of college. I had thick hair and the perms messed it up so it looked really thin when I was loose natural. Ive seen videos wear people have retained their length but it still looks stringy. Like I'm more worried about the fullness of my hair than length.
