Note: this video's title and thumbnail have changed. The original title was 'My Garfield Vacation: A Historical Voyage'
Here it is! Six months in the making, a voyage into the lost history of the Garfield comic strip, from Fairmount to Muncie. I have spent a lot of time making sure that all this Garfield content is in good condition, and I hope you guys like this little documentation of the journey. Crack open a new pack of Lasagne, gather around with the family, and join me on my Garfield Vacation!

50:16: Fitting song to use, since the title of the music track is called "Salute to a New Beginning", which fits the whole rewriting of Garfield History! Speaking of which, 8:04: So Garfield *was* named after a President. The name was taken from Jim Davis' Grandfather who happens to be named after the President.

This is why I watch Quinton. His videos have become a sort of ...joke on social media. And I admit that's how I found his content. I said to myself, "Haha, let's watch the first 10 minutes of this long Victorious video, how absurd." Next thing I know I'm an hour into it. The fact he takes time to dedicate so much passion into stuff he's not even that into, is what I like.

Growing up in Indiana I probably heard at some point that Jim Davis is from here... but somehow never put two and two together and have always just assumed it was common for businesses to randomly have Garfield statues? Like I just thought Garfield was so widely loved that random grocery stores just sometimes decided to have statues of him installed. Indiana being Jim Davis' home state makes a lot more sense, but I miss the world I used to live in where I thought random Garfield statues were a common occurrence everywhere lmao
@MrMoogle

I was just thinking the same thing, haha. I've lived in Indiana for over 20 years and I never gave it a second thought that Garfield is everywhere. It was much the same in central Illinois where I grew up since that was Garfield's prime time. I loved Garfield growing up so I just assumed so did everyone else and that's why I see him everywhere. Didn't put two and two together about the Jim Davis being from Indiana connection until now. You're not alone, haha.

Same! I’ve lived in Indy for like three years now, and i don’t think i ever even knew Jim Davis was from the area. I just assumed that Garf was just a big enough cultural icon that some people liked to have statues and signs and stuff of the character 😂

The closest thing I have to this is growing up in Kansas, while I understood Arkansas was pronounced are-kin-saw, I for some reason thought the Arkansas River was pronounced "are-Kansas River". Lmao. I think I assumed that the Arkansas River in Kansas was a completely separate river from the actual Arkansas River? To this day if I ever have to mention the Arkansas River in front of someone who isn't from Kansas, I have to pause and think before I speak lmao. Oh, but you bet your ass if you're from Kansas I have no shame in calling that river ar-kansas river.

I know self deprecating humor is fashionable, but it made me kind of sad when Quinton was on Maple Street and said “Don’t waste your life like I have.” Quinton’s unironic joy in all things Garfield is really refreshing to see and I think it’s wonderful he found that street. It’s a street that reminded me of my home town and gave me a moment of reflection. I hope Quinton’s self deprecation is exaggerated because his Garfield content has given me a lot of joy in learning about Garfield as an important figure in pop culture.

You seemed so legitimately happy throughout this video. You seemed fulfilled, overjoyed, even euphoric to see these statues, and comic strips, and all the stuff in this documentary. I really like the Jon poem thing, not only because of the extended universe, but because it implies that in true Jon Arbuckle fashion, the creators of the poetry book did the literary equivalent of a Mike Wazowski and misspelled his name. That just absolutely feels like something that would happen in Garfield-Jon finally does something important, consequential, worthwhile, only to get none of the credit because of a single errant letter.

The fact that Quintons love of Garfield is so clearly tied to his bond with his father is just wonderful. A lot of media only shows us father/son relationships that are hostile or cold or based on the son not living up to his father's dreams. And a lot of those deal with a traditionally masculine father being unable to connect with his dorky or otherwise non-macho son. So it's just nice to see the opposite of that.

"The poet John Arbuckle" Gnorm Gnat actually takes place millennia after the world of Garfield is ravaged by nuclear war and Jon's comics and cartoons, much like Homer's epics, are some of the last remaining first-hand accounts of the late 1970s until the break out of the war.

Vet says, Treatment is simple. Great comic Garfield is in the daily funny pages . He should read a few of them and he will feel better. Cat bursts into tears...but Doc he says...I hate Mondays. Your genuine love of Garfield makes me so happy. I loved newspaper comics as a kid, including Garfield, and would read them in the paper, and check out the books from my library. But I grew out of that phase, and the internet convinced me that they were lame. So I've really loved seeing someone around my age that unabashedly loves something without irony.

Honestly my favorite part of this is when he handed Quinton that incredibly rare pin and you can just. See the vice grip. That pin is never leaving his sight, ever. But seriously I LOVE when people get super deep into "niche" interests like this. It's an incredible boon to media preservation. I can't believe all of those rare strips and items were found! That's awesome!! Edit: Also the more I watch it, the more amazed I am that there is a LOT of cool stuff in the world and cool stories you can learn by just... asking people nicely. All of these cool rooms, items, etc people were MORE than happy to talk about just because Quinton just... asked nicely and seemed appreciative.

This all hits very close to home for me, because I actually live in a town known for a comic strip. I live in Santa Rosa, the home of 'Peanuts,' by Charles M. Shulz. You can't go very far without seeing a statue of a peanuts character. We have a 'Snoopy's Ice Rink,' a museum dedicated to Charles Schultz-and we did have his childhood home, until the fires. So all this is just very normal and familiar to me.

This is such a great video, and I'm someone who has no strong feelings for Garfield either way. I'm also not American, so I don't think I have the same connection to the character. However, I loved learning about the illustrator and seeing the influence of Garfield on local communities. There's a lot I've taken from this video but can't fully talk about. Tonight has been a night where I've had a lot yelled at me from drivers, and I've not yet finished the video. This was really enjoyable, easy to get into. Thanks for another great video!

I’m autistic and I had moments in my childhood that my special interests were Garfield (when the movie came out, I watched it in the cinema, and later many times on VHS and DVD) and Peanuts, and I remember my dad printing out Peanuts comics to me, and they were so awesome. It's very refreshing that there is a straightforward appreciation for Garfield, because a lot of the time many people made it a point to lampoon the character. May I know what is the source that Jim Davis' grandfather is named after the president? While the names are very similar, it felt like an assumption. At least with Garfield being named after Jim Davis' grandfather, it was at least mentioned in the Garfield official website (before Nickelodeon's revamp), but there does not seem to be any official word that the naming of Garfield is from the president himself.
