Following up on last week's discussion of History Channel and its decline, today we remember that time the world ended: December 21, 2012... Or rather, the date that networks like History, Discovery, Sci-Fi and others became OBSESSED with saying that it would, creating numerous 2012 Documentaries to profit off it. From Planet X and pole alignments, to asteroids and Bible Code... This is the end.
(special thanks to Patty Taxxon for suggesting the title)

I think the reason people of every generation make end of the world predictions is because people have a desire to feel ''special''. People don't like to think that they're just part of another generation that's going to die off someday and is going to be followed by another generation and another generation. People want to believe instead there there's something special about their generation and the times that they are living in. If the world ends during our lifetime it gives our actions, lives, beliefs and decisions greater meaning because it will be within the context of being the last se of actions, lives, beliefs and decisions to have ever occur. If the end of the world is something some unknown, undetermined, future generation will have to deal with, it takes away from someone's own significance in the present.

I just remember this era and my second grade teacher who was going to retire sitting down with us and having an “End of the World Day”. Basically he went through all the times where people thought the world was going to end in the past, and how it was completely fake. Then he proceeded to tell us that all rations and stuff run out or expire anyways in the end of the world, so there’s no point in prepping for it. Finally he gave us some bookwork and told us that if we made it through quickly, we’d get to watch/ make fun of 2012 history channel propaganda about the world ending this week and get loads of popcorn. Literally was the best way to take the fear out of all the 9 year olds in the class, and whenever I think of 2012 I think about that teacher.

It's Lost Media, most people probably watched this stuff live or DVR'd it and deleted it when they were through. These documentaries probably just came off as stupid to non-conspiracey theorist at the time as well, they were but they are interesting to watch regardless. Almost nobody probably still has the same DVR they had back then if it somehow amazingly hasn't failed yet or hasn't had the recording erased. Because of this, lot of the VHS era stuff is probably actually better documented. Still, I wish History would re-release these.

Did you know that MLK is the greek translation of the ancient god Molech? MLK also means to sacrifice, or a gift. Molech wants sacrificed children burned by fire and the elite pray to him at bohemion grove every year in California. And by elite i mean government officials, Mark Zuckerberg, Actors, CEO, etc. This is 100% real and you can research it and see video of it. We are in an evil demension right now. This is real, people accended to this realm at different times. Alot say 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2016 is the latest ive seen. It happened to me in 2012. I woke up in a panic and knew I was dead, then i woke up as if i had a dream and nothing was ever the same again. I know multiple people this happened to that ascended/descended with me. Everything is being covered up by the big guys. Spirituality is way deeper than anyone knows. This is the real purpose of the hydron collider. They are researching dimensions. There are CIA documents on possible interdimensional travel, and how everything is a simulation and how our brains are just machines that read the code of the world around us.

“Let’s use the Bible to make predictions that contradict the Bible.”
@Jessie_Helms
@Jessie_Helms 3 жыл бұрын
@Siboniso Buthelezi I don’t really see how *that* is a reason to be agnostic. Some idiot twisting a legitimate scientific paper to push chakras doesn’t weaken the original paper. I mean by all means, you can be agnostic, I just don’t see how what I said could be a reason lol. That’s kinda the point, if the Bible is trustworthy then predictions that contradict it (such as a completely different end of the world) must be false, and if the Bible isn’t trustworthy then predictions made based off it is no more valid than one based off Dr.Suess.
@Jessie_Helms
@Jessie_Helms 3 жыл бұрын
@Siboniso Buthelezi I still don’t see how my comment is “why” but again, I can’t stop you from believing what you believe bro, at the end of the day that’s up to you. I will say this, though. It’s pretty unfair to judge a group which has fundamental texts that, by definition, is how the group is supposed to act based off of the insane people who don’t even follow the definition of that group. I mean, I’m not sure if New Aged Spirituality has hit SA yet, but it takes real science and twists it so severely that it’s equivalent to taking the Bible and trying to prove Scientology (they completely contradict on many points). In my opinion, it’s absolutely ok to judge groups by their behaviors, but it’s not fair to judge them by their outliers. And it’s better to judge an ideology- whether it’s a religion, economic theory, political view, etc... based off actual sources (the holy text, the economics paper which originally proposed it, etc...) than people who’ve partially implemented it or even who’ve completely twisted it to their own ends.

I remember some of those History Channel shows about 2012. One that sticks out in my mind was a husband and wife team going through rural Mexico looking for evidence about 2012. They met a person claiming to be a "Mayan Princess" at what looks like a tourist trap. She said the world wasn't going to end. Then we got to see the couples travel pictures. It was pretty anticlimactic.

I legitimately think that the whole 2012 thing ruined my life. I grew up watching the history channel with my grandfather, who passed away in 2009, and continued to watch it after he passed because it reminded me of him. That was about the time they started airing all of these shows-- and without my grandfather there to explain anything to me, i was convinced the world was going to end. The anxiety I had about it and the existential dread it gave me made me depressed and left an impression on my psyche that I've never recovered from.

I asked what he meant and he explained that the Mayan calander did not include the concept of the leap year, which was a Gregorian Calander concept which was established in 1582. Due to the different calander systems, we were actually behind the Mayan calander by 107 days, approximately a little over 3 months. Meaning that these quacks theories were already debunked 3 months early. That's what I remember the most out of all of this, people just not realizing we used a different calander system than them because of the leap year.

I was in 6th Grade when all of this was at it's peak. We were physically anticipating the end. My friends and I, with everyone else, are literally making bets on what would go down. Hell, I even have a Diary of a Wimpy Kid knockoff that documented everything I did before 2012, and vividly remember the pages. I even saw a movie back to back special in HBO I think, that unironically uses the 2012 song by CollegeHumor, named Bye Bye World. And then the date happened, and my God was I absolutely confused

The funniest thing about that crystal skull hunt to me was that I heard the Mayan prophecy was "Once all 13 crystal skulls are discovered the world will end". This made some sense since 13 is considered unlucky in western culture. I then proceeded to laugh at the guy searching for them, as he completely missed the point he had turned himself into the super weapon chasing villain.

Nuki YT Uhhhh... no, it's not. The closest thing to a movie was being the plot for the last Indiana Jones movie Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls. I was obsessed with this subject since my teens which was mid 90s. If there'd been a movie with such a title to come out in the last almost 30 years I would have been all over it. In fact, the only reason I was remotely interested in the Indiana Jones movie was because of the crystal skulls plot.

Everything after, no one can conclusively say the people alleged to be Robin Hood were even anywhere near the right areas... when they even had proof they existed at all.
