From talking to my friend whose really into rhythm games he's told me that wearing gloves for games like Maimai reduce friction from moving your hands quickly never thought to use gloves while rolling in NES Tetris so I'll have to give that a try thanks for the insightful video

Wow, I totally forgot about arcade games! On some track ball games like centipede and missile command, they'd wear gloves to lessen the friction between the palm of they're hand and the rest of the control panel. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and got something out of it!
@darkness74185
@darkness74185 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah wearing gloves is basically mandatory for MaiMai otherwise you essentially scratch your palms off once the difficulty got high enough (also sanitary reasons). It's sorta optional with other games like Chunithm and WACCA but in my experience it's just better to wear them. I guess the same would also apply to controllers if you grind your fingers through it a lot

Rolling really is evolving to something crazy I don't even play nes tetris but seeing this Is really cool Also I see that Pvm back there lol as a guy trying to find one without breaking the bank nice find!
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! The PVM was a really lucky find, but definitely took a pretty heavy initial investment. We bought it and a bunch of other old video equipment from a church, and after selling off a lot of the stuff we had no use for it turned out to be a free item. I'd say just keep on the lookout, especially locally on facebook and craigslist.

I'm seriously glad that I was able to help! My initial thought for this video was just that, having detailed angles of my grip and where my hands are on the controller. For me, I wish there would've been a video like that for hypertapping.

Like a guitarist, it might be useful having longish fingernails on your rolling hand and hit the bottom of the controller with your nails which slides easily.

Great video! Really helpful 💜 But I need a tip. How do you rotate pieces? Do you roll A and B buttons as well? Or just press them as usual? Maybe it's me struggling to find the perfect grip to be able to rotate fast enough -- that's a problem for me especially when I need to rotate twice.
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions Жыл бұрын
What I personally do, which also is pretty much the same as the rest of the classic tetris players, is press the buttons. Rolling should only be done near the D Pad on the controller, it shouldn't be able to affect the A and B buttons. Your hand should be putting pressure near the those buttons to keep that side stable. Hope that helps a bit more, and I hope for the best in your attempts at learning rolling!

what tips do you have on practicing rolling, like what level did you practice at when you were a rolling noob?

I'd still consider myself a rolling noob lol. I'm personally just trying to play at level 9, and sometimes going up to 18 or 19 for fun and just to gauge my progression. Great question!

Lol, I'm literally terrible at Tetris 99 and only won one game because I played it when it first came out. Also, I used to collect Pokemon Cards, and actually tried to make a proper deck! I collected so much I had to stop and already have collected what I like. Glad you enjoyed the video!

gloves tbh am not so sure about working out for everyone. For me using a glove makes me roll worse probably because i cannot feel my controller hitting the controller? And the friction between my controller and my hand is pretty important for me rolling also tapping isnt effected by your dominant hand. I am right handed but i tap faster with my left. Right handed grip was relatively easy to learn even with the controls inverted, so if you cannot spend extra 50 bucks thats still an option
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely know that the glove won't be a good option for everyone, I just had a conversation with another player who also suffers from hands getting really sweaty when gaming. The glove really helps me out, and I don't feel as though I really need to feel the controller when rolling. Also, that's crazy about you being able to hypertap with your left hand! It seems like, for a lot of hypertappers, they use their dominant hand for it.

Hey this is a bit of a side note to the main video (which was excellent btw) but what's the name of that pen trick you do in the video?
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. That's actually a great question, but I don't know the answer lol! Unlike other "popular" pen tricks like the thumb around this one just hasn't been named from what I know. Here's the video though just incase you wanted to watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2OvaHpnhZhlq6M

CAN YOU DO IT WITH SNES CONTROLLER
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions Жыл бұрын
Not sure, since a snes controller wouldn’t work for nes Tetris I’m not sure why you would want to try. However, would be interesting to know if it’s possible. My question would be if you can roll on a dog bone controller? Could be interesting of an experiment.

I physically don't comprehend how you emit enough finger force to make that happen. Even tapping with ONE finger, i can't do it consistantly. That isn't rolling, that's just tapping with 1 finger. 50% of the time i hit it too soft and if i do hit it hard enough to press the button on the other side, then I basically launch the controller out of my hand??
@AMJProductions
@AMJProductions 2 жыл бұрын
I think you definitely need to get urself a new pair of pads for ur controller (an original NES controller). You can get some at www.totalradnes.com and that should be a big help. You can also find some great tutorials on KZbin for cleaning a controller.
