How I SAVED my Broken Marriage

It's so much easier to ruin your marriage than to prevent problems in the first place. It's so much easier to drift towards emotional neglect and not even realize it. It's so much easier to get busy and put our relationship on the backburner rather then be proactive in pursuing and prioritizing intimacy and emotional connection and healthy communication. It's always easier to fall in love, than to stay in love. In this video I talk about what I had to learn the hard way when it came to saving my marriage.

I'm here now, wondering what to do. Shared this with my husband. I don't know if he will take any of this advice. I likes listening to all these videos, but, I don't know if he will put the work in our marriage he destroyed with his addictions... 😢 I haven't been treated like a wife should and so now I am not the person I was or wanted to be. I feel like 40 years down the drain!!!!

After sooo many years in the church, of all marriage advice and teaching, most of it was aimed at women and how they should submit. Very little was ever mentioned about a woman's needs, mostly about a man's needs. Very little was ever directed to men. It was all very toxic. Thank you

True, even to the point of texts saying women should not be educated, because only the man can make decisions. Yet people still believe in this nonsense.

Church leaders spend most of their time trying to stop wives from leaving than teaching husbands how to be the best to their wives which prevents divorce. They condition women to "cut their husbands some slack."

My ex fiance ruined our relationship for another woman and didn't understand why I wouldn't be a 3rd wheel in their relationship. He didn't think we needed help or to work on anything. He thought I should change my expectations (no cheating, that he wants to do things with me, no lying about who he was seeing and what he's doing with them, that he actually married me) so he could put effort into this other woman and didn't think that was cheating. He didn't get it for a while.

I know you're reading the comments, Jimmy. My husband is the closed off one. I kept asking him, "HOW CAN I TALK TO YOU??" And he has not been able to answer. I know. I know why. Today I realized I have not made a safe space within myself for him to open up. I am owning up to that. But, he does still have his own work to do too. I'm just glad that I was able to find where MY problem was - safety for him. We have physical safety, just not emotional safety. Yet.

BTW, only point here. When you ask, "Are you able to apologize for all of the ways you've unintentionally hurt them?" Apologies require specifics. To apologize by SPECIFICALLY NAMING THE HARMS COMMITTED, that means that the person who has harmed the other person recognizes their faults and is self aware. They are acknowledging HOW they have harmed someone, regardless of intentions. They are able to ADMIT that regardless of their good will it did not land the way they intended it to land. Most importantly, when you apologize with *specifics,* YOU ARE CALLING YOURSELF OUT, AND AS SUCH ALLOWING THE HARMED PERSON TO HOLD YOU TO ACCOUNTABILITY. Naming specific harms is why apologies work. It means you are ATUNED to the other person.

Very good question! Why does God allow evil and suffering in the world? Most of the suffering comes from humans who do evil to each other. God wanted to create beings who would have the ability to love Him and each other. Love requires freedom of will. Automatons cannot love. Our freedom allows us to reject God, the source of all good and love also. It’s interesting to note that the ones who reject God or His existence also accuse Him of being responsible for the evil they see in the world. Even more interesting that without God as an objective standard for good and evil, you are left without a basis to affirm that something is objectively good or evil. I would recommend you to look into the work of Dr. William Lane Craig and his ministry Reasonable Faith for more resources to answer this important question. God bless you, dear seeker! And thank you for your question! 😊

@@FaldieChandler I'm no believer of god and I don't believe that he is responsible for anything that's happening in the world. I don't believe in good or evil, it's that black and white thinking that can lead people down one path or the other but it lacks nuance. I don't need any god to bless me for I have earned my blessings and I don't need no god to tell me what is sin for it often condemns human nature, the way we just are and behave in the natural world. I wish for nothing more than for followers of a faith to acknowledge and respect the differences in believes for we will benefit from our differing views and understandings of the world. God or no god, people are just people and while capable of doing terrible things, the opposite is true too and that is what I will always lean towards.
@FaldieChandler
@FaldieChandler 6 ай бұрын
Racism is evil, there is absolutely nothing good about it. Rape is evil, there is absolutely nothing good about it. Stealing, murdering, cheating, trafficking children, molestation, the list could go on and on. Are you saying we should not have black and white thinking about these things? Perhaps you have not yet been a victim of evil or seen a loved one be victimized. Although some people may have attenuating circumstances that may push them towards evil actions, objective good and evil still exist. Permissiveness is not love when you are the victim. It is also not loving to allow a person commit evil deeds. In the Christian worldview, there is recognition of good and evil, which allows for true forgiveness and offers a path toward redemption. In yours, stealing from the poor is as valid as helping them.

Thank you for having done the work in your marriage. It’s a good reminder that it can be done. When pointing out that it only takes one to steer the marriage on a better path remember that that only works if the other partner is willing to respond. Because it is true that one person can make the difference but only if the other person is willing to respond and leaving that off leaves those with a spouse that will not try feeling like we weren’t good enough. Keep up the good work. Your videos are awesome and I’m glad to have found them.

A new marriage. That is what we need. My husband did not admit that he had a neglectful attitude. He didn’t want to be intimate and did not pursue me. We are not connected now. We need connection. Emotional blocks. Intimacy blocks. We need help. I still think he is trying to not face how much he has hurt me. I don’t think he realizes the amount of his neglect how it has destroyed our marriage.

This is great! We've a good marriage. I'm incredibly lucky I met my soul mate but we all have areas and issues we need to work on and your videos are great and can be applied to be spouses. My husband can be dismissive in arguments that makes me feel like my feelings aren't valid and I know when my husband complains about something I become automatically defensive. The point may be absolutely valid - I do throw myself into my volunteer work and will prioritise that ahead of our marriage, which is wrong but because I know this I feel guilty and then I get defensive. So I will have to work on this. I deserve to be heard by my husband and my husband deserves to feel that his wife will prioritise him also. Thank you!

My husband loves me so much, it is impossible for me not to love him back and always seek his best, but I have to admit it is not hard, because he treats my like the apple of his eye and my happiness is his top priority. I am still in love after 8 years because of the way he treats me, it is easy to submit and listen to a man like him, even though I used to be very strongheaded and even arrogant, his love humbled me and got my feet on the ground where they belong. We talked for hours and nights, my tears always dried quickly when I realized whatever will happen his selfless love is always there. Everything said here is so true. Hope it will help many, I know those principles are worth everything and until this day we never argued and attacked each other, much less yelled. Ppl think it is not normal, but I wish it would be for everyone ❤ it is heaven on earth, when two ppl put each other's needs first. This is one great video, love the passion and the heart it comes with. Fantastic!❤

Jimmy as always great words… we are never really taught these skills…. We follow what we know…. Our parents, our friends… Who make them the experts… This path is a long path… Acceptance that we need to grow and change… It takes courage… or prescriptive… to be vulnerable… Two choices …. SIMPLE…. Grow and learn for a happy future… what you put in you get that back…. Or Blame don’t change… have excuses… it’s not me? So be the change… Emotions change like the wind… you might feel your in the dog house ….no hope… Then a few words ,sharing… understanding… The dark clouds move on… The major tip is to be consistent… Words are easy …. Put a plan in place… to be consistent… As actions show love…. So why would you not do this… Love your words Jimmy…. A great reminder to look 👀 n the mirror Simon

My ADHD diagnosed in 2020 has been a major roadblock and I have historically engaged in diassociation. ADHD and narcissism have overlapping behaviors which is terrifying. We don't go on dates. Sooo i said ok lets move ( because it was our neighbor) then i thought everything was good we watched TV together did things as family went to coffee shop . Then i seen he was doing it again! So its im not flirting enough im not im not all kinds of things. I said how can you expect me yo just be like well everything is gone nothing is in my head . I was trying yes going out wasn't something we could do much because of kids and money but we did spend time together and it doesn't help he's always searching when we go out . I think he switch one addiction for another . 😢 So i wanted to ask your wife how did she do it howcdid she get pastbthe hurt and trust isdues. You need to go to therapy and find one that counsels on narcissistic abuse. And make sure you put the therapy charges on his credit card. And don't stop going until he decides to go to therapy and work on your marriage

Please stop saying unintentionally, because it’s not always true. A good portion of the time it is intentional.

You're spot on. Most of the time, it is intentional. They often punish their partners for being different, for having needs, for communicating them, so they punish.

I felt the same way. But I really enjoy how he explains things, so I just take the religion part out of the explanation and try to find the message hiding in those parts. It has really helped me. 😊

@Mint-kj9kw only if you believe in that! Not everyone does, and that's OK. Each to their own. If you're not religious the God talk becomes a moot point (and spoils the flow of the video for the non believers)

Great first half of the video and quality insights, yet Jesus and church stuff really unnecesary and unwarranted.

I am against marriage and I mostly know deeply unhappy couples. I am in a happy relationship so why should we get married, it seems like all goes south as soon you have the official documents signed.

@dailysmile5159 it is. When you get married a Bible is used whether at church or justice of the peace. Don’t shut God out. Give it a shot.

Not everyone is an American Christian. Is that a hard concept to grasp? Even if a couple is Christian, marriage may play a cultural role rather than a religious one, depending on the culture. A Bible was not present at my wedding because I am a Muslim. I can understand why some people may find the sudden interjection of American Christianity off putting. Nevertheless Jimmy has some great advice. I am glad his channel has gone viral as it is some of the most easily relatable advice on youtube right now. @@husbandslockerroom4041

I was expecting serious science based advice, but once it got to Jesus and God I understood that this one is not about psychology or interpersonal relationships but more about christian morals. Hope it helps others ☺️

You had me and I really liked this channel until you brought religion into this. Why do people feel the need to bible thump. Why can’t it not be political or religious. Yikes

If you can't take a good advice because he quoted the Bible as a reference, then you have stuff to work on ma'am. I'm not a Christian anymore, but I don't get offended when people give information and quote theBible. If it's a good and relevant verse, why not? Also respecting diversity is a thing. Try it. If you have wounds to heal from Christianity, heal them.
