How I saved ££££'s fitting my own window shutters

This was my first attempt at fitting window shutters and it was very easy with each shutter taking around one hour to install. You only need a drill, screwdriver and a silicone gun.
By fitting them yourself you can save around £300 per window so the savings add up really quickly.
We ordered these shutters from a company that imports them from China and I must say that I was very surprised at how easy they were to fit.

I'm pretty sure that they are MDF coated.

Are the shutters PVC or MDF? what’s the colour and size you went for? I also have 1 odd window at the end which require a T bar so it doesn’t look odd when finished, do you know anything about that at all?

I used 6mm Fischer duo power rawl plugs into the plasterboard.

Is there a general distance to go into the recess? Fitting mine in the kitchen/utility

You just need to make sure that the shutter doesn’t hit the window handles.

Use a level, you must of been very lucky and had a square window recesses and seal. Not many windows are.

How would the level have helped? I'm assuming either way you would need to use packers, and they were added anyway.

The house was very new and virtually every window was perfectly level and square, maybe I just got lucky?

Did you buy that shutter only for one bedroom window for 2000£?

No, £2000 was for 4 x windows and a set of french doors. Each window was around £350 depending on the size.

No they are not total blackout. They let quite a lot of light through.
