I think for anything moving the benefits of high shutter speeds ( even higher than recommended for the action taking place) far outweigh possible noise to me. I really like the recommendation of having an assigned function button to switch from fast to slow action and back in a pinch.

This is one of the most helpful videos I've watched this evening in prepping for some dance/event photography tomorrow. Really hoping you get 'more exposure' because this was so helpful for me as a photographer in terms of learning! Thank yooou!

Pour ce genre de travaux étant donné le grand nombre de photos je ne peux pas me permettre un travail chirurgical. Ducoup j'utilise light room pour gérer le bruit lorsqu'il est vraiment trop visible 😉

hey the spotlights at the venue, those weren't strobes? looks like you got some really good still shots !!

I really wish we could have gotten some advice from you for the event we just covered as volunteers. The lighting was horrendous (extremely bright florescent lights pretty much directly over the sets and no room to set up studio lights. Plus, nearly everyone we photographed were wearing cowboy hats that shaded their faces. Maybe I should mention that each of us (there were four photographers) did portraits or group shots of about 250 people in 2.5 hours on both days? Oh, and I have three whole days to sort through the images, choose at least 1 of every participant and get them processed (lots of radial filters). Eh - can you tell I'm feeling a tad overwhelmed at the moment? Thanks for the break - I really needed it. And I'm sorry this is so long-winded.

i'd love to know what your camera settings are for these. I've been shooting stage dance comps and the lighting is pretty bad at times. I'm also finding that even on my Nikon 810 with settings at 1/500 2.8 1600iso my photos are still quite grainy. What's your fave focus settings too? Auto continuous with which focus points?

I sometimes go up to ISO 3200... and yes usually lighting is horrible during these events. I mainly use tracking focus!
