Nicely done...Like the hole and glass... really condenses the light. I tires a few in black material, but, varied results.

I've seen some really beautiful results shooting on black backgrounds, but the flash/stacking aspect was less appealing to me. With this method, I can shoot a couple hundred flakes fairly quickly :) Actually just put up a video with about 1100 snowflake photos!

@@EvanLudes This is a great way to do it! I have been able to do frozen bubbles but never had any success with snowflakes. Yesterday would have been a good day to try. 😂

Your camera is really doing a good job,Canon type are longlasting and their photos are clear. I never knew about snow flakes but now I have an idea.

Absolutely! This old XSi keeps on trucking. Its batteries don't last quite as long as they used to, but it stands up to the elements quite well!

Great video Evan & very innovative technique. At the 3:50 mark, the color of the viewfinder changes from white to blue, mine stays very white & too bright, please tell me how you changed yours to the blue background color, thanks.

Looks like I changed my shutter from 1/25th to 1/125th :) in my experience it's always been better to slightly under-expose these with a faster shutter, as it's still easier to recover a slightly dark/noisy photo than a blurry one. Good luck with your photos!

What are the temperature conditions where you're at? Snowflakes here dissolve within a few seconds generally. Maybe if I chilled the glass before, I could keep them from melting. Great video ove never seen it done this way.
@EvanLudes
@EvanLudes 2 жыл бұрын
When I was shooting these, it was about 5F above zero. So quite cold. I always keep my glass outside (but out of the elements) so you don't have to worry about melting.

@@EvanLudes that makes sense. It doesn't get that cold here in Utah so I'll have to figure it out! Thanks!

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Never really thought about it, but it appears you want really small snow flakes on a really cold day?
@EvanLudes
@EvanLudes 2 жыл бұрын
Really cold temps generally produce the best flakes, in my experience. Snowflakes that fall in the almost-clear air behind storm systems are even better. In terms of size, it depends on your magnification! The smaller ones usually have more intricate bubbles and surface features. Stellar dendrites can sometimes be too big for my setup, though they don't usually have good "clear" plates of ice like I like to see.

What size holes did you drill in the drywall? Great video btw! Thank you!
@EvanLudes
@EvanLudes Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Mike! I drilled a few different sizes. Sometimes when the flakes are smaller, it's easier to use a 1/4" hole. 1/2" should do it for most snowflakes. Maybe 3/4" if you've got larger flake clusters.

@@codylerephoto I'm learning to let go of finessing the details lol. Video looks good? Check. Vocals don't make the ears bleed? Check. Background music exists? Check. Past that, it's not really worth the time in unless it's for a client or artistic/timelapse project.

spectacular! Thank you. Jesus Christ is the Master Creator of all; Romans 10:9-10 from the Bible: “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.”
