Selvage: The selvage is the tightly woven edge on either side of a width of fabric.
Many of you know that I have been collecting fabric selvages recently for future selvage quilty fun. In order to save time and my sanity I needed to find a storage solution that would work in the long run. In this video I go in depth about my current selvage storage.

Thanks. I like the non writing side because It has so much color. I can use them with the selvages that only have the dots and no fabric to add a splash of color. Or just use them on their own. Depends on the project and my mood.

The selvage is the tightly woven edge on fabric. It ha something to do with how fabric is woven. One edge will be the color of the fabric and the other edge usually has the fabric information. Who designed It, maybe when It was designed, the fabric line or manufacturer. Some selvages will have little colored circles that represent each color that was used to create the fabric. Some fabrics just have a plain white selvage edge. It’s generally not used when sewing a project because It is so tightly woven. Most people cut It off and toss It. Some people like myself like to create something just from the selvages. I hope that helps. If you search fabric selvage projects on Pinterest or Google then you’ll see wide variety of projects made using selvages. Some people make stunning quilts and others make pincushions or bags. I’ve made a few things and I’m saving selvages to make a few wall hangings.

I started saving my selvages after I saw some of your projects (postcards, pouches, etc.). Like you, I used to throw them away. When I accumulate enough I'll make something - can't wait!

It’s a quilt block that looks like a spool of thread. There are many versions available. I like to search for them on Pinterest and just scroll through all the fun variations.

I'm so glad you like the sweater cats. As I said, this was cut from the edge of a backing. I loved the fabric and really love shaped color dots myself. Enjoy!

I think you got me into the habit of saving my selvedges and I now how a nice box full of them. They are not sorted yet but that time will come when I get around to using them. Looking forward to seeing your new ideas and what you make :)

I’ve heard from several people that they’ve started saving their selvages now too. I think It’s neat. I was on Pinterest this morning and came across some new selvage designs. Now I just need the time to actually make something.
