I can’t wait to try it! I’m so sick and tired of all the huge plastic containers that I have to recycle every week (laundry detergent, pet food, litter, etc.). So, it saves on filling the landfill with plastic, too.

Yes.

Thanks for sharing this recipe, about to make my 1st batch. Just curious, do you find that you have to periodically mix the detergent once the mixture is prepared? Or does it gelatinize again?
@PrettyHandyGirl2 жыл бұрын
Yes you do

I live in England and wondered if I can buy equivalent ingredients here but also is this detergent ok for sensitive skin? Love your channel! 😍
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
Viv, I'm not sure what the equivalent products would be. You'll have to do some research. The Fels Naptha does have a scent, so not sure it is okay for sensitive skin.

Brittany Bailey Thank you for your reply! I will do my research! If I could just spend a few pounds on my laundry per year I would be a rich woman! There are 5 of us and I usually do at least a wash a day. Thank you for your tips and your mask pattern! xxx

Viv B This is no bargain. She’s clueless. Her concoction delivers 0.03 oz of soap/load. That’s about half the weight of a paper clip.

Apologies if you already answer the following question but can't find the information. In the commercial detergents they tell you how much to use per load, how much should I use per load using this formula?

Just ignore stupid people that tell you what you should be doing. If they were half as clever as you they would not be so ignorant. I really like your videos and your face mask is definitely the most comfortable!

So... I use to do this recipe a few years back and the only reason I stopped is because my sister who was having issues with mold on the rubber ring in her front loader (and was the one who taught me this recipe). My top load broke down and I ended up getting a front load. Because I knew of the issues she was having I researched a bit and found that many where having issues with regular detergent because there was animal fat in it. Turns out that is also in Fels Naptha (called tallow) in the ingredients. They suggest using a vegan detergent instead. Persil was the only detergent that I could find that didn't have animal fat. I would love to go back to making my own detergent again. Do you know of a vegan recipe?
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
Cole, I did some research for you and I found a vegan substitute for the Fels Naptha. You can use Dr Bronner's Castile Soap according to the PETA website. Here's a link to the product: amzn.to/2WhU3Sk Also regarding the mold on your sister's machine, it's actually related to the water tight circumstances in the machines. Here's how to keep your machine mold free and smelling great! www.prettyhandygirl.com/how-to-keep-your-he-front-load-washer-clean-and-smelling-fresh/
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt4 жыл бұрын
Cole Duke There is no animal fat in those products. The bar soap was made from tallow, but none is in the finished product.

@@PrettyHandyGirl OMG... That is wonderful! Thank you so much! I missed making my own soap so much! I even have some castile soap. My bank account thanks you. Also thank you for finding the reason for her mold issue. I will forward her this. I know how much it stressed her out.

Cole Duke front load washers the door should be left open all the time ,or it starts to stink and smell mouldy.when I moved I bought a top loader..also when I had my from loader if the clothes were left in the washer over overnight they would stink
@nicoledukich4 жыл бұрын
@@Notspinning_vr honestly... It has been 3 years or so and I have never had a mold issue with my front loading washing machine because I use Persil that is made for front load washers since I first got it. We have cats and a infant so I am not willing to leave it open if I had to. I would get a top load again if it came down to it. But ya... No moldy smell and towels have been left in the washer for over a day and still nothing. So if I can use her recipe and replace the bar soap with a Castile Bar instead of using my trusted Persil Detergent, I am all over it.

Do you use fabric softener or do you replace fabric softener with white vinegar? I’m very intrigued by your detergent recipe. Thank you for the recipe.
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
I don't use fabric softener. But, if you visit my site you can see how we stopped using dryer sheets and what we use now: bit.ly/miracle-stain-remover
