As a once homeless woman with 2 children I had to go to a safe home for domestic violence to keep a roof over my kids head. In my city there was only help for women who are victims of domestic violence or recovering from substance abuse..nothing for single mothers who just fell on hard times so i did what i had to do ..had to fake it to make it. i stayed humble and gracious and God knew my heart which is why today I can say me and my children are blessed with a beautiful 3bdr home but my goal is to open a housing unit for women who were like me, no support just needing a second chance it’s hard to get back on your feet when you have to worry about where you and your family are gonna lay your head at night ..I’m currently in school for business to put my plan into action but I just need to know where to start?

Lea, let me first congratulate you for pushing through and getting back on your feet. You are an amazing woman. 1. Stay in school and complete your formal education. You are going to need it to run this charitable business 2. Write out a business plan so you can identify all aspects of the program and property. 3. You will need to own or lease property. 4. join your coalition of local homeless providers so you can glean and learn from those who will share with you. You need to know the administrative part of it. You can join my newsletter to hear about upcoming news etc. www.thefoundationconsultants.org/newsletter/

You are such a blessing to this world. 🙏❤️ God bless you. I'm trying to start a nonprofit where we build tiny houses for homeless. And put the homeless to work on building them to earn their keep. Real estate is too expensive here in Alaska. However there's alot of cheap land. Im trying to start a compound with different businesses that will give the homeless jobs they like and sustain and build the compound. Having a job that they enjoy is important. I have no money and I'm a single mom , but I'm determined to do this some how. The homeless here are in a sports arena sleeping on the floor. Drug overdoses and violence, dead bodies echoeing out of this huge sports arena. It's so horrible. Alot of these people are just rejected for housing due to bad credit . They are not on drugs. Blessings to you.🙏🙏❤️

Eva, you are the blessing!! I'm so glad you are taking on this project. I visited Alaska several years ago (loved it!) I stayed in a hostel in Anchorage for a few days. In the winter the city paid the hostel to take in the homeless. I visited one multi-million-dollar foundation that just didn't understand and pushed back on the homeless plight. :( I hope they have changed. There are a lot of great (and challenging) working parts to your dream and you have tackled one of the hardest parts...putting it out there for us to see and hear your faith in meeting the needs of these people. Thanks for stepping up!

Well it quite didn't happen but later in life I caught on I always had the work ethic enstill in me that later flourished and I soon realized and became that which my grandparents desired for me to be. But the past few years 5 To be exact have been rough and that dream that has come to reality of owning my own home is now in jeopardy. Are there any nonprofits that help people like myself that buy a home and then fall on hard times and looking to lose that dream that came true? That help someone own their home out right? Thank you so much 💓

R G thank you for sharing your story. I am glad to hear that you are still pursuing your dreams and that your grandparents played an important part in your life. Hold onto your dream and press on! Every city, county, or state has a Fair Housing Council which is a nonprofit that will assist you in understanding the purchase process. Please follow the link and find your local Fair Housing Council using your zip code. nationalfairhousing.org/ Your local chapter should have events or workshops under their events or resource tabs on their website. Those workshops will tell you how to get ready to buy and educate you on what to expect. They will also introduce you to very good products that may assist you with first-time homebuyer assistance. I believe they are also on Instagram. I'm looking forward to your success!

Its hard to go to the home-buyers seminar when you are in poverty. But thats the way you prepare. Also to give people guidance on what is needed to get to the income level in order to afford a home or a decent apartment. Was there any special zoning that had to be upgraded in order to take a normal residential home and make it a transition home?
@jenaimorehead2 жыл бұрын
Chance, that's a great question. The zoning depends on your city or county laws. You need to talk to your building and permit dept. Our particular city has no problem with a shelter as long as it's under 6 people. For our city, anything over 6 people would need a special zoning permit. It also depends on the neighborhood. We tried a newer neighborhood but the neighbors were less tolerant and the availability of surrounding services was not good for our clients. It was just too far away from the services they needed so we chucked that project and focused on other areas. If you need more assistance please consider a 20 min free meeting or hiring me as a consultant for your project.

I love you feel this is part of your legacy. Imagine all the lives affected directly and indirectly by your decision to live by faith. God Bless and Keep You. Though not my legacy, I think frequently of my Great Great Grandparents (GGG) legacy. In the late late 1870s to 1910 many children were child labors, quitting school at 6 or 7 years old to work 12-16 hrs 5/6 days a week, to help pay for rent and food. My GGG started a Sunday School. No offerings were asked for. It provided a large healthy meal. The children were taught to read/write and do math at Sunday school. The reading and writing were based on grade level Bible stories and as they got older, scripture. They taught biblical positive characteristics and values. Over 7,000 children were taught about Jesus. My GG grandmother would put everything together and have it printed, then after attending early service at their church would go to the building they rented to teach every Sunday. My GG grandmother had a college degree in teaching, though she never taught regular school because she got married.

Why didn’t you rent your property that you owned to the non profit ? Is that legal ?
@jenaimorehead5 жыл бұрын
Nikki thats a good question. We needed to maintain "arms length" from the transaction. Also "inurement" will get you into legal trouble , which means that rents cannot benefit any of the board of directors personally. The IRS has an inurement clause which is required in the articles of incorporation. Here is some information: www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/inurement-private-benefit-charitable-organizations

How do I open up my own homeless shelter without government funding? That is one of my goals in life. It has to be without government funding or aid. When the pandemic was going on the government was shutting down homeless shelters all across America. I want to see to it that the government does not have the legal right to shut down my homeless shelter.
@jenaimorehead Жыл бұрын
Tiffany, you brought up a very good subject. Good thinking!! The direct answer to your questions is that you have to use or raise your own money or a combination of your own capital, fundraising, and grants It is always good to have multiple sources of income If you need coaching on how to develop your program please let me know. calendly.com/foundationconsultants/20minfree During the 2020 pandemic, the government did not shut down shelters. In fact, the govt increased funding. Although, two things happened. 1. People did not want to go to shelters for fear of Covid which lowered the number of people in each shelter and 2. shelters had to pause operations to understand and implement CDC regulations that were written specifically for the homeless shelters. See the link below. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/homeless-correctional-settings.html In the 2009 financial crisis, unfortunately, some state and federal governments did pause financial contracts. One major city in the USA stopped honoring grant contracts and those were worked out in court. Hope this helps.

@@jenaimorehead I became homeless because of The Pandemic and churches and church friends paid for me to travel from city to city and state to state to search for a city that had a stable homeless shelter for me to stay at because I refused to sleep outside. I left El Paso and tried Denver and when shelters shut down there I tried Des Moines. Then I tried Seattle. Now I am staying in a stable shelter in San Francisco. When the pandemic first came to America I was staying in a transitional housing shelter in El Paso. They lost their funding. The government took it over and converted it into a shelter that was only for homeless veterans and homeless people who are invalids or wheelchair bound. Everyone else was kicked out and there was no other shelter for them to go to so we all fled El Paso. Whenever I get financially stable and before I die I want to create a homeless shelter that the government cannot shut down.
