These are some of the most valuable insights I've heard in a while. Thanks for sharing! Im a ninth year residential plumber looking to go out on my own. I already have clients and handle small remodels from start to finish, front and back, with my current company. I started taking on more service over the last year but dont see it as my thing, and Im trained in complex residential remodel here in the sf bay area. Ive been following jered williams for a year so its funny to hear you reference him, as not many around here do. I grapple with accepting his stance of residential service being the only profitable branch of plumbing. Hearing about your experience and approach is a breath of fresh air! Thanks again.

This is a great example of how 'The Economy' is no excuse. While half of YT was complaining that they couldn't get a job because of X Y or Z, you took a truck, and some connections, and started a multi-million dollar business.

I'm a resident ophthalmologist in Europe and literally stumbled upon one of your videos like 20 minutes ago and I can already say that respect the hell out of the effort and dedication you've put into your work and business, we can all only learn from such an example. Thoughts of how to go about in my field once I finish my residency often come up especially when I see people in other branches that are successful in developing their own business, and I often wonder how I can implement similar things in my practice. Still haven't figured it out but hopefully with more work and experience the way will show itself to me. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge !

Awesome story, the overnight success took a number of years though I bet. Must feel good to have all that coming together and hitting that stride. Hell yeah, and you said F the jet skis. You put your money back into the tambourine and keep it shaking. That's what divides growth from standing still. Kudos to you man, that's awesome.

$7k to start the business, but for the business to become a success it took far more capital than that. That is, it took tons of career capital, which was built through a decade plus of high quality and honest work as well as consistent effort and learning. I've worked in digital marketing for 12 years (how did I get here, KZbin?!) so there's no way I could throw $7k, or $70k, into starting a plumbing business and actually make it work. So, yeah, just a great lesson in achieving success by playing long term games and building career capital. Put in the work, become elite in your craft, treat people right, and eventually you have all the ingredients for this type of success. Like he says - it's repeatable, but you gotta repeat the whole journey. Very cool stuff.

Hey brass man in one of your videos you gave a shout out to a youtuber 'mr green plumb' something on a better way of fixing a slab leak or something of the sort? Does this ring any bells? I've been going through your videos to find the time you mentioned it but can't find anything.

One thing that will gain you respect with any employees is to treat them the same. So many business owners making ten's of thousands or more a day when their employees combined are not geting 0.15%. If that. I've worked with bosses who would be buying a new home and vehicles while us employees are were driving junk and renting dumps.

No doubt rags to riches! Always a job well done brother! If you could have quantified what you are actually worth meaning all your years of experience to the game when you 1st started your business. I believe it would help anyone trying to start their own business! Your experience was earned in the trenches can't buy that from a store! I believe that gives your such a large advantage over all your competition! Rock on!

Bro im in year six of owning a moving company. Do you have any tips on employees? I am so burnt out dealing with knuckle heads. Next summer I am going to try to only hire college kids. I wish I learned plumbing or remodeling or something I just wanna work by myself lol. Employees is the worst part of the biz for me.
@brasshouse-og2 ай бұрын
@@chadpilled7913 connect them to the profit. I have found that people are unpredictable. But they become much more predictable if I know what is in their best interest. I find ways to align my interest with my employees interests. That way I don’t have to monitor them. If they’re connected to the profit of the job, they care a whole bunch more. I’m super transparent about the revenue of the work I do. I want all my guys tied into our large scale goals. I want Apprentices that have been with me for two months focused on hitting our yearly goal. I also try to give them hard metrics on what they can do to earn a raise or bonus pay. Guys like getting an actual target to hit and will often times perform much better than you would expect if they know what’s truly expected or needed.

You are about to make a big mistake. You need to keep doing the commercial but You need go forward with doing RESIDENTAL. Reason It real simple. You found a path that was PROFITABLE that you DID NOT MIND DOING AND WAS MOTIVATED TO DO. Any buiness needs two major things PROFITS + MOTIVATION = SUCCESSFUL BUINESS. You were motivated to do residential becuase you seen the profits.. Those residential profits are still there. Get the Residential going . Then you will be UINVERSIAL AND NOT LIMITED TO ONE SIDE.. I am on the same path in a different industry but the mechanics are still the same.. good video..
