How I stopped my cat from peeing on the furniture

Furniture is not cheap and can be quickly ruined when your cat decides to pee on your sofa. Depending on what type of furniture you have, damages could range in the thousands or be wholly destroyed. You do not want this to happen again. The more your cat sprays on your furniture, the harder it will be clean or stamp out the smell.
In the end, if none of these products helped in stopping your cat from peeing on your sofa or bed, the solution that worked for us was an electronic Scat Mat. This unique pet deterrent provides a three-second safe static shock to your pet, once her paws land on the mat. See the video of how we implemented this solution. make sur eno lids on the boxes. most cats dont like it, but some do so try both. i tried odo-ban today for pet urine, praying it helps. have 1 cats keeps getting on kitchen counter or the stove now to pee. used to be on their throw blankets and the ceramic floor int he utility room. then my office chair. i keep the new one covered with multiple layers of towels just in case. only does it when im asleep and i got it narrowed down to 2 of the ten i have. they have 5 litter boxes 1 in the hall 4 in a room they have all their toys and perches, none are covered. i also noticed crystals in the urine and started feeding wet cat food and added chicken flavor d-monnose from amazon to it. its all natural suppose to treat and prevent uti's and the wet food gives them more liquids to keep the urine from getting crystals. today i ordered a cat water fountain. praying combined it all does the trick cuz im getting tired of washing towels and buying new office chairs. Hope u can figure it out. praying for us both. :)

She doesn't pee on it because there aren't enough litter boxes or because she's stressed out. She just does it because she fucking can. It makes me so sad that we got the absolute most troublesome cat combined with my dad, which is the single biggest angry asshole on the planet, combined with the fact that she only pees on what happens to be the most expensive and hard to clean couch. The couch is in the living room near the front door, and the entrance in is wide open, so you cant barracade it or "scatmat". It's just amazing. My dad wants to have her put to sleep and me and my mom have no idea what the fuck to do.

My cat was constantly peeing and pooping outside her little box. What seems to have helped was to move her little box to another place in the house and get 2 more little boxes. So now she has so many boxes to choose from. I also gated the places she has urinated in so she can go there anymore

You probably just need another litter box upstairs. It's an area you don't go often so they want to go to the bathroom there. You can get cat litter boxes that look nice and you don't go there often so what's the harm.

Heres my experience, , my cat was peeing over n over in different areas, sofa being his preferred spot. I had taken him to the vet before a couple of times. The vet kept on telling me if its a uti it should stop after taking antibiotics, NOPE did not happen. So after reading about this all over the internet I decided on this as a solution for my cat. First I took him to the vet, got antibiotics and read on Elavil transderm. I asked the vet to prescribe it in this fashion. You apply it to each ear alternating left to right everyday. So far my cat is on the 2nd refill and its working. Of course there's many things that I did and do differently. I bought another liter box and clean it every day. I have tried working with my cat because I truly love him and would hate having to put him out or bringing him back to rescue, I would never give my cat a shock or declaw him, thats inhumane. How would you like it if it were done to you. When you bring a pet into your home be prepared to deal with all that comes with the pet. Just work with them. They get stress just like we do. The key is identifying the problem and finding a solution. Good luck!

@@Darioq57 After applying the Elavil doses for 2 months on his ears he has completely stopped peeing my furniture. It worked and it did not bankrupt me with the vet lol. Im happy with this treatment! Elavil is not an antibiotic, its an antidepressant, he was on the antibiotics for the first two weeks, and on Elvail alone thereafter. Behavior issue gone. He's not on any meds now.

I have 5 cats. A mom 2 males 2 females. One male peed in my bed , on the chairs, the couch and in front of the door. I threw him out. He hid under my car for a while. He came to the door and cried. Having issues like those, especially if you work or have other obligations that eat up your time, it's very difficult. Usually don't have these problems with cats that aren't feral (reside outdoors without a human owner), or have been "fixed". Mostly see this with older cats. Have you tried having 3 litter boxes & placing them in private or semi-private places or do you not have the living space to accomplish this? If unable to keep please try to find someone that loves cats, understands their behaviors & has the time to work with them. Could try placing ads on a community board if there's one in neighborhood, a local, work or school newspaper, social media sites or anything else can think of. If can't find someone like that please please give them to a no-kill shelter!!! At a regular shelter they have little to no chance of survival, especially if they're full grown! Sorry these cats aren't working for you, do totally understand! Just give them the best chance at survival if you can! Thanks! Be blessed! 💜

@@kathy2092 Thank you for your advice, one is about a year old now the other was a year old and 5 month. I gave the 1 year old up to a friend who wanted him and he's doing great. I also trained my 1 and 5 month old kitty 'Koko' properly, he (I found also out HE was male not female after getting his shots and neuter) wanted lots if attention and affection which I was able to give and learned he liked being the only cat of the house, i have a big house and 1 dog he got along with (raised with since birth). But my kitty passed away 7 days ago because the neighbor dog jumped the fence and ate him. My dog was chained up she's afraid of lightning, Happened during the daytime while It stated raining and thundering that I didn't hear it happening. He usually sits on the lawn chair and likes to watch the rain...Found him after, was awful. Didn't realize how much I loved that cat, but I don't think I can be able to get another without blaming myself for his death, plus he was one of a kind.

I would try feliway defusers, calming collars by Comfort Zone and calming treats. Definitely see a Veterinarian for medical issues such as UTI, renal failure and diabetes. Extra litter boxes and keep them emptied.

@@kathleenmccrea8574 feliway is supposed to be the best . My vet recommended it and it can help . Check to see if the problem is behavioral or a medical issue. It could be stress or anxiety. It could be happening from seeing other cats outside and they feel the need to mark their territory. Hopefully your kitty is already fixed . Clean the places they spray and maybe put newspaper on the floor. It can be frustrating but keep trying different things . Some of the different urine cleaners can help . Don’t give up or yell at kitty, that could make it worse. Good luck !

Your kitten may have a health issue, diabetes, uti, other issues. All of my cats (4) were deserted and we adopted them. One has issues with peeing everywhere. She was severely abused by her previous owners, she's a mini kitti and has a hard time getting in a litter box, the man, a large person, got angry at her once and stomped her head. No one knows how she survived, we changed her name to Miracle, it's fitting. Anyway, having the super short legs and brain damage it's no wonder she pees wherever she's standing. She's 5 and it's something we know will be a lifetime issue. All of our cats have their own litter box and are cleaned twice daily at least, none of the others go on the furniture, floor or rugs. Maybe you kitty doesn't like the litter, litter isn't just litter to a cat. Good luck

You have two cats, you should have 3 litter boxes and they cannot bet beside each other, they must be in other areas of the house. So if you have downstairs you should have upstairs. If she continues to pee on the furniture then think about trying a different litter maybe she doesn't like the type of litter you are using. There are more proper and humane ways to help resolve the issue than to shock your kitties.

One time I adopted a cat from the shelter they told me this cat was litter box trained and I made sure I got the same exact type of litter that the shelter was using and this cat was also spayed as well. When I brought her home I set up two litter boxes showed her where they was and she pissed and shit up my whole house my couch and my carpet she barely used the litter box as well and I called the shelter and asked them to take her back I asked for a refund they told me no and this cat continued I tried to give it time then when nothing was working I whooped her ass (spanking) and put her outside now she lives outside I feed her and give her water outside she always beggs and cry's/meows to come inside but I refuse to let her in because of my old furniture that she ruined I also tried to find her a new home and nobody wanted her because of her history so now she has to live outside she's been living outside for about 9 months now I still take care of her just only outside

Honestly I dont blame you. I am in the same position with one of my own 5 cats. We got her as a young kitten about 2 years ago and for the past year we have been desperately trying to find her a new home and keeping her locked in a large OCB cage similar to the ones they keep cats in at petsmart. We recently tried letting her back into the house since she was using her box in the OCB container and we had dry cleaned the sofas and shampooed the carpets with enzymatic cleaners... she shit all over the place 2 days later. If we cant find her a new home by the end of the week she is living outside, as the shelter will not take her... I refuse to have my house & possesions destroyed and put my crawling baby in danger because of one stupid fucking cat. Sorry not sorry.

Often cats won't use their litter tray because there are too many people or other animals around. Try hiding many litter trays in different, quiet, areas of the house so the cat has privacy and doesn't have to share it's toilet with other cats. Cats can be very territorial and prefer their own toilet that other cats don't use.

She is in pain, its not necessarily an infection but her using the couch is because she has some pain and needs softness. You need to put your cats on a raw diet! no more kibble. Do you have a ceramic drinking fountain>? also give as a supplement d mannose powder you put in food or add to water and give with syringe. Another excellent supplest is the standard process feline immune support. When you clean litter box use a 1 part bleach 6 part water mixture to clean the sides of the litter box after you scoop out pee. Best litter is the one that clumps like sand it is all natural at pet food express. It looks like sand and is annouin g but it leaves no wetness. Just make sure you provide 2 litter boxes for each cat and clean with there solution every time you scoop. Do not use plastic liner! I also netted my entire backyard with the Catnets and my cats stay safe inside my yard!

BS! Our house is 2900 sq ft. No Gonna happen. Looking for a new home for her. We’ve had dinky for over 4 years now. She’s very loving & we love her dearly. Unfortunately, for the furniture where I sit in the main living room. She’s ruined a loveseat, a regular long couch and a regular seat chair. They are all leather. They’re older now and we’re looking to replace them but every time I sit down and watch TV because she got pissed off at me and I clean the litter box but not all the time, and she usually goes outside, I can’t stand the smell of cat piss anymore. I told my wife it’s the cat Or me. Animals bring a lot of love. But I cant stand the cat pissed furniture anymore.
