Middle school can be rough, personally middle school was not too bad for me but for a lot of people I know their grades really started to drop in middle school. I’m talking A and B students going to C and D average students. Make sure to take it seriously, I feel like if you don’t focus in middle school it’ll definitely be harder in high school because middle school is like a foundation. If you have a weak foundation the rest of it won’t be as good. But you don’t have to obsess, so take it easy on yourself sometimes ok? :)

Congrats on taking responsibility,but make sure to enjoy a bit as well as high school is anything but easy,get thorough with the concepts with understanding,as the base of high school lies in middle school and this is the time you create great memories, so have fun and enjoy learning. It's really great that the younger generation gets to get resources like these. Before I just took notes thinkng that the information will stick in my brain, but nope. I kept doing the note taking method bc I had no idea what other effective methods will help me study better. Until recently, I noticed that talking to myself and teaching my topic myself while looking away from my material helped me a lot!

2:50 YES my old school used to make us study only by taking notes. We took tons of note every single day for every subject and we were taught to memorize every bit of it for our exams. MOST students ended up forgetting what they studied by the time exams ended including me. I got in a new school in a new country and their teaching technique is way more different + effective. I've come to enjoy learning again bcus I am provided with more resources and materials that I wasn't provided with at my old school such as visual, audio, wifi, etc.

i find that something helpful is to record yourself explaining a concept. my math teacher used to say, if you can teach it to someone else, that's how you know you've learned it well. so recording yourself helps to make sure that you really internalized an idea bc you can concisely express it. you can also play back the recordings to review some more if you're on the bus or doing dishes or something, which i find really helpful. i think this works best w subjects like history or english, which are more abstract, but it can also help remember definitions for stuff like chem or bio.

I'm really planning on getting high grades for this school year because I'm in 12th grade already and I want to get accepted at my desired university. Pro Chem tip from a high school grad who took three years of chem and never got less than an A: - organicchemistrytutor and Professor Dave explains on KZbin are really good at explaining chemistry concepts and problems (Dave is more conceptual and chem tutor is more problem solving oriented) -Usually the best study strat for this subject is to just work on a lot of practice problems. Don’t be afraid to fail or trip up in the beginning, start simple and work your way up to more complex problems. Make sure you understand a problem before moving on to the next though. Gl to y’all n happy studying :D

making notes for myself:: get wide before getting deep - start beforehand and overview everything... do practice problems as checkpoints without worrying about getting everything right... then do lil mock tests closer to the test, active retrieval, return to sth you struggle with instead of everything. film yourself - inquiry based learning - attack the problems where.. make the most difficult... seek help asap, tutoring sessions with tutors... 3 days before the test - mock tests / redo spoken presentations or rewrite 1-page summaries;; the day of the test:: good sleep, after the test - hangout with friends right after school, creates an upwards momentum anddd avoids burnout;;; do the hardest problems during your peak hours and hw do when the brain is not at its fullest;;

this is so helpful. honestly as a high school student, i always thought doing well just came about by simply studying harder. the more you study and the more time you put in, the better you will do. what you put in is what you get out. but over time, i’ve learned that studying is a skill and its an art. its so much more than just spending a lot of time on the material. my previous conception of studying was incorrect. with that being said, thanks so much for the help!

My problem isn’t studying too much, not at all. During 10th grade I gave up, I stopped studying at all because everything especially math started getting so difficult, so out of reach that I felt like I couldn’t do anything about it. It felt like no matter what I did I wouldn’t understand it so why even bother. I still passed thanks to the support of my friends. But I’m worried for 11th grade, in less than 2 weeks we go back to school and I really don’t want to repeat giving up, but I don’t know how to motivate myself to understand things I don’t understand.

the descriptions aren’t the best but time stamps beginning of studying:: 0:28 - start wide 5-7 days before 1:07 - expose urself to all the units 1:32 - try not to reread 1:53 - do mock/practice tests 2:49 - don’t take much notes (try to record urself speaking if you find it hard, go back and revise that part) 3:32 - study hard problems, if you get it wrong go back and study simpler questions 4:33 - if u can’t understand, ask someone who knows mid studying:: 5:02 - do practice tests the same length as ur test end of studying:: 6:22 - focus on the most difficult problems you have extra:: 7:05 - try watching study with me videos to improve focus

I'm going into my third year of college and the best tip I got from this video was the planning to hang out with friends after a test! It's super easy for me to get caught up in the endless amount of things in my to do lists and go, "Okay, I finished this big exam, now I need to start working super hard on this project due next week..." I already do like a reward system during my study sessions, but I never thought to incorporate a reward like after I finish with a test or project cause for me the reward was always the idea that finally I'm done with it.

I'm in my 5th year of uni studying biology and these tips are super helpful! Some stuff I've learned as someone who used to be on academic probation and now has a 3.6 gpa: - never skip class, you won't just learn it later - find a note taking method that works for you (I used to hand write my notes because you retain info better, but I would get so exhausted by the end of class, I'd never even finish my notes) - if you have ADHD, you're not broken or stupid (if you have a diagnosis, use your school's accessibility accommodations, learn how to advocate for yourself, you have to work harder than everyone else it's okay to need extensions and extra time) - first and second year of uni are way harder than third and fourth year (schools make more money off first year students and the courses are designed for you to fail) - it's okay to take 5 or even 6 years to graduate (it's normal and doesn't make you a failure)

Please build upon this before going into post secondary education if that’s the route ur taking!! University students tend to have not learned how to study effectively and as a result fail courses/struggle because they don’t know how to study. You won’t have enough time to study super hard, so build upon this skill now so u don’t suffer later!!

0:34 lmao i was so confused when you said it was unachievable to start studying 7 days before a test, my school gives us the syllabus a month in advance for our biggest test & we are expected to start studying even earlier than that. your video was very helpful though since i really don't want to spend that much time studying!

I remember the time I used to cry while studying the same topic for hours just to remember every single word. Now that I realize I don't need that. So now I try to just give myself example while studying the topic it doesn't need all the time

Me who is in my last year of college and only has studio classes and will never take another exam: hmmm interesting Also, while you mark this as a video for high schoolers, I feel like college students will need it more! Studying in college was just much more overwhelming for me personally. Testing myself was always what helped me best. In fact, it was the only way I studied.

I'm starting highschool, and my plan is to study a lot over the summer. I've missed over half of middle school (covid directly followed by mental health issues) and really want high school to be a fresh start for me. Videos like this really help ❤

I also recommend the "last second review" aka just doing a total slam through all the smaller details you're afraid you might not remember on the test in passing time before the test or if you have a bit of free time in the class before the test

You know, the most effective way is to just understand the basics of the chapter, thoroughly, completely. Easier said than done though, Math (binomial expansion): research for the usage of the technique, practice different kinds of questions to grasp the concept and base of the technique bla bla Physics (thermodynamics): read the definitions, be patient and find out how each equation correlates to each other, check out other materials and experiment too There are obviously some loop holes in my logic here, which is the main reason I'm commenting, just in case
