I came to faith late in my life (late 40's) and felt I had to catch up! Then I cut myself a break and started by learning the Lord's prayer and would say it before and after my Bible reading as I felt I didn't know how to pray effectively yet. I started reading the Bible with the Gospel of Mark. He's the 'action movie' writer; his Gospel moves rapidly and factually through the life of Jesus. I just went for it and read it as I would a novel. Then reread and took notes of certain characters such as John the Baptist and Jesus, and how they barely interacted as adults but had been aware of each other as cousins. How Jesus interacted with his disciples. How Jesus taught the 'public' but then how the disciples were given deeper explanations to provide a greater understanding. Done over several sittings with the same text, I found that I naturally began to learn those key verses that spoke to me. I then had the Book of Ruth recommended to me, no mention of God but He is clearly at work in her life. using the same method of starting my reading like it's a novel and then going back and picking out a common theme, then rereading for another theme. I started to use a different colour for each reading's theme. That's my method, novel read the book, reread & look for a theme, then reread search for another theme, and so on. Making notes where it is convenient (margins, notebook, latterly a Journaling Bible). I've still a long way to go but I'm in God's word, applying it to my life and that's all that is important.

This was a great reminder that just because I have a "good" excuse, that doesn't mean that I'm not missing out on something necessary. Starting a plan today!

I have adhd too and I use it to my advantage. I don’t read consecutive chapters or consecutive verses and I don’t read books from top to bottom With our deviation. I read what peaks my interest and God can use that too. I read one verse and want to know about the Hebrew meaning of a particular word and that leads me to a question and end up in a completely different book than I started with trying to find the answer.

Just pure intentions to study the bible, journal, and pray. Above all the videos I watched, nothing yet can beat this. I learned in one vid how to start, when to start, what to read, and helpful tips. This video helped me realize that all I need is to just go and grab my bible and get my pen and paper then start. I struggle giving too much effort, seeing the simplicity of this made me just do it. Thank you so much!!!!

I 'm loving it because he does commentary for each daily reading on his podcast and because it has the deuterocanonical books too, so I got to read Judith for the first time, and now it's one of my favorite stories in the whole Bible. He does a great job explaining things for Protestants and not just Catholics too. 10/10 recommend

I found this immensely helpful and encouraging, thank you! I have just been told by my doctor that he would be "very surprised" if I am 'still here' in two years time, but that it could be considerably shorter. A death sentence tends to focus the mind! I had got out of the habit of reading my bible consistently for a number of reasons, but I am now determined to really study God's word daily for however long I have left. I already have an Authorised Version (the most poetic and easy to memorise); an NIV; an NLT and have just bought the NLT Life Application Study Bible, the SEV Study Bible and the SEV Journaling Bible. I have also bought a good introduction to each book of the bible and a very comprehensive Bible Commentary. I can't work without a plan and I plan to read a chapter of the Old Testament each day, beginning with Genesis and working through consecutively to the Prophets; a Psalm each day and then work through the rest of the Wisdom writings and a New Testament chapter each day, starting with Luke and then working through the rest of the NT from Acts onwards. I will return to the other gospels later. I always journal my thoughts on what I have read, noting anything particularly interesting from the Notes/Commentary; write how the Holy Spirit is applying it to my life and write out my favourite, or most important scriptures. I will also include a section for prayer. I will try to read/study three or more chapters each day, but try not to feel guilty or a failure if I have felt too ill. I could NEVER use coloured pens in my Bibles, but will use pencil. In my journal, however, I'm very OCD and will use a multitude of colours. Thank you again (Diane, England).

I'm not following a Bible reading plan. I read chronologically from Old Testament to New Testament. I would keep on reading until a verse jumps out on me but my commitment is to read at least one chapter per day. I know that meant I won't be able to finish the Bible in one year. In fact, it took me 3 years to finish it for the first time. However, I love doing it that way because it helps me absorb more of God's words. I have just restarted a new cycle last month. This time, I'm reading in a different translation. I'm now in Exodus.

UPDATE: I'm now at 1 Kings. I know I'm a bit slow. I have not been so consistent. But I still want to continue studying at least one chapter per day.

For a plan with some structure but also some flexibility, I like to take the number of pages in the Bible I want to read and divide it by 365, then aim for reading about that number of pages each day. Some days it's more, some days it's less, but I can read the whole Bible in a year like this without feeling tied to ways someone else has chosen to divide it up.

I love your channel and I love these kinds of videos :-) one of my favorite methods of study that I found recently from Kandi Gallaty is the HEART method. It has you highlight a scripture, explain what it is saying, apply it to your life, respond in prayer, and then my favorite part is the T stands for truth, so you pick out a truth God is speaking in the scripture. It helps me as I am going through the study focus on a specific truth.

Hi Kaci. Karla 61 in Oklahoma. I cannot tell you how much this has helped me get serious in my daily Bible Studies. I was saved and Baptized when I was 10. Was brought up in a very strict Southern Baptist Church and home. I’m now Pentecostal and God has done so much in my life since being baptized in The Holy Spirit. I feel like I’m in a Spiritual Warfare? Anyway Sweetie; cannot wait to order the Scribe Study Bible. I was doing one of Billy Grahams Bible studies daily for a good yr. Being reading 1 chapter of Proverbs and 5 chapters of Psalm daily and that would take you thru each book in 31 days. It’s a great reading. But::; my mistake was I was reading not studying as I read therefore not remembering much of what I was reading. I was not taught to study Gods word; just read read read. I cannot thank you for these great Bible Study Tips and Study bibles. May God Continue to Bless You Abundantly. Can’t wait to listen to more of your studies etc. I’m new to your Channel and praising God for prompting me to STOP and listen to your videos.

Your food analogy is so helpful! Ive made a goal to read the whole Bible and I have been consistent in reading a little every night and am collectively about 1/3 through over 4 months thus far. Getting through parts explaining the intricacies of how things are crafted or anything one would think of as repetitive all at one time is admittedly difficult to focus on BUT I remember the Bible is a divine text from God and every word is there to be read. (2 Timothy 3:16 ) Though it's been a challenge, I believe it's growing my patience and discipline. Maybe for me, it's not always about the context of the text but more so the patience to read through it and to train my focus. Another mindset shift I take is how BLESSED I am to hold a copy of the Living Word. I am able to read it openly and freely. I have grown so much since reading every day and I see the positive impact it's had on me. It really does change you. ❤☺️

I have been systematicly reading the One Year Bible since 2004. I read randomly before. That doesn't mean that is all that I read. I journal how the Lord speaks to me through His Word. I tried listening with an internet site but since I am a visual person I found I got more from reading than the audio. It seems each time I read something I have read before I see something new. God is faithful in revealing Himself to me all the time. I study inductively.

Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to know, he is unable to comprehend… It’s about the relationship with God through his word. Don’t expect anything other than to know Gods will, understand, his word, and learn wisdom which he will reveal this to you when he’s ready. Discipline and Patience…great video and I appreciate your channel! I’d also like to add renew your mind. Great video. I love using the Bible app. They have some great plans for several different topics of the Bible.

I have been studying the book of revelation with my bible study group. We’ve been using the book called “Blessed” by Nancy Guthrie. I’ve been really enjoying this perspective of Revelation. The plan I use for bible reading is “The Bible Recap” podcast. It’s been a great tool for me!

Just found your channel. This was a great video! I am not sure if this is something you would be interested in, but I really think you would be wonderful in jail/prison ministry. You communicate very clearly and know and love God and His Word profoundly. I think you would be a huge blessing to there!!

Thank you for sharing! I am trying to get into a good routine for my time with Jesus. Sometimes I'm all over the place, and when I attempt a Bible reading plan I end up not following through it...🥴

Love that you are wanting to get into a good routine with Him! As for Bible reading plans, sometimes it takes trying a few to see which one is a good fit for you 😊
