Pietro Boselli is an engineer and model born in Italy in 1988. He moved to London in 2007, where he pursued his academic career at UCL, with a degree in Mechanical engineering obtained in 2010 with first class honours, followed by a PhD in computational design of steam turbines, a project sponsored by Hitachi of Japan. Pietro is also a fashion model. Pietro’s professional career as a model, however, began earlier than his academic one. In 1995 he landed his first campaign for Armani Junior, becoming the face of the brand for 4 consecutive years. Pietro has since early age been signed with a few different fashion agencies, and worked for the most prominent fashion brands, photographers and fashion magazines, such as Moschino, Bruce Weber and Vogue. Pietro is a Pro fitness model for the WBFF federation, after winning the European title in 2014.
Pietro Boselli is a model and professor in Modelling & Analysis for the Mathematics Department at UCL, London. After his PhD, he decided to hit the fashion world. He works with Moschino, Equinox, Vogue and very international famous photographers such as Weber, Sgura, Rankin and Vivanco.

Excuse me, but I find this a bit sad. Admittedly, he is extremely good-looking. BUT he is talking about academia and how to combine the two. He is an engineer with a PhD for god's sake and all the comments are only about how he looks, whether he takes his shirt off, or how good his butt looks. He should be admired for inspiring people and not be reduced to his body.

ghabho, He's a fashion model. Believe me, he could wear a potato sack and he'd still look stunning. If he wore a suit or anything “fashionable“, people might think he's showing off. Wearing jeans and a t-shirt actually proves he's a simple guy and just wants people to focus on what he says, not his looks.

As a master trainer, I could feel his absolute terror during this presentation. He was doing the "Texas 2-step," moving weight from one side to the other over and over. Stumbling over words is standard when speaking in a language 2nd to your own. But his voice was trembling, he was blushing, sweating, had dry mouth, and almost hyperventilating. I was so proud of him in his 2nd visit to the TED conference.

I think he managed to go well, but he is shy. It's natural, because he is young, very handsome and attracts a lot of attention to his appearance. He must feel uncomfortable and permanently think he is being judged in every way, not only by what he says, but by his looks.

I'm amazed that someone like him who has accomplished so much in the relatively short period of his life (and is trying to teach people how to do the same) is being reduced to a sex object by a bunch of people on KZbin. If you're crying about how "unfair" life is, remember that a lot of what he has gained was through hard work. Sure, his natural good looks got him into fashion, but did he stop there? He studied to develop his mind, he physically trained to develop his body. These things took time and effort, and didn't come naturally. He didn't sit back and say "I look good, that's more than enough to work with." He didn't allow himself to be boxed into the stereotype of a dumb pretty boy. So while you're here groaning about how unfair life is and looking for ways to discredit him (with useless comments like "I bet he has a small dick") at least take the lesson he was trying to teach: Don't let yourself be limited by stereotypes and other people's expectations. Work with everything you have and maximize your potential. That's the point of this video. And if you think moaning about how good he has it is going to slow him down or stop him from trying to accomplish even more, then you wasted your time watching this. You might as well sit back and wallow in your mediocrity.

Of course, being a white young man made things easy for him. It would have been much more interesting a black man or a black woman who overcame all obstacles to accumulate knowledge and be successful.
@rustytrawler4438
@rustytrawler4438 7 жыл бұрын
He is naturally extremely good looking and extremely intelligent. No doubt he works hard too, but someone like him has things given to him on silver platter. When he goes for a job, his is very likely to get it because of the way he looks. Other people are very likely to like him because of how he looks and that in itself will open all sorts of opportunites to him that other people would have to struggle a lot harder to get. There is lots of research showing that good looking people, in whatever field, get jobs and get promoted more easily and earn more money than other people. The only reason he is giving this Ted talk and has received media attention is because he is both very hot and very bright and those things are normally seen as not going together. He may well be a nice guy as well, (I like the way he seems nervous giving the talk) however, it's a bit rich for him to advise others on how to be successful, because he doesn't really know what life is like for people less perfect than him. I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever seen a better looking man or woman than him.
@Monochromatification
@Monochromatification 7 жыл бұрын
+Rusty Trawler True. But the summary is: he still worked with what he has. That's the best anyone can do. You gain nothing from withholding yourself based on perceived shortcomings. Sure, he has it good, but he did not become complacent based on his advantages. He could have decided to stop at being a model and allow himself be typecast in that way, but he didn't. He took advantage of every opportunity he had and maximized his potential. That's the message I got from this talk. The idea that the world is somehow "fair" is what makes people so bitter. That's why people are so happy to engage in ad hominem, attacking his position and talking about his privileges as a way of discrediting his message. But the truth is that everyone has a different starting point, some are advantaged and some aren't. For every person commenting here on KZbin, there's probably an equivalent human of the same age and gender toiling away in a field in some third world country. White people in Europe and America get several benefits that black people don't. Men typically get more advantages than women. Taller men more than shorter men. That's the nature of reality, and the system of chaos that governs everything. The world has never been, and will never be fair. But this is same world where Stephen Hawking is renowned theoretical physicist and not just a paraplegic on a computerized wheelchair. Looking across the fence and commenting on how good other people have it doesn't accomplish anything. We can choose to focus on our shortcomings or we can strive to make the most of our situation. We may not be the best among all, but we'll be the best version of ourselves. And that has to count for something.

@@thomasjuniardi3559 You're a bit confused. Vikings raided Italy during the Middle Ages. Asians never invaded Italy in any way, neither Africans. The Moors ruled Sicily that is an island in the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages, right before the Normans. The Romans didn't mix with other races because it was considered outrageous, this doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it was an unusual event, it had no effect on the genetics. Actually, most of the invasions in Italy didn't left a significant genetic footprint, hence Italians mainly descend from Italic tribes, with some significant Greek and Anatolian admixtures in the South and Celtic in the North.

@@radiantsun8493 I'm not talking about invasion of Rome but Roman expansion, especially during Imperial periods (27 BCE to 300 CE). They estimated that Rome citizens (The Romans) population is about 1 millions but the entire population of that empire was estimated between 50 to 90 millions, streched from Brittania to Assyria. And they mixed not all by legal married, a lots of romans had illegitimate sons and daughters from their slaves in all kind of races that they conquer for example. I pictured them like the Mongols, their expansion spread so far that they leave a genetical footprints as far as Eastern europe to the south east asia. But unlike the mongols, the romans prefer centralized their rulership in the great city of rome. Thus they bring anything back home, plausibly their illegitimate offsprings and their descendants are these modern Italian. 🙏

As a Professor and a Model this guy is an achieving being, the looks came as a Bonus. We need to realize too that we can own multiple hats. Despite his beautiful face and chiseled physique at 27 he can still do more in life. I found the girl in me looking at him, and the woman in me by listening to what he has said. More power Dr. Boseli 😊😊😊 I love you 😊😊😊

There are some jealous guys out here commenting shit. About him. Why don't you makeyourself more productive rather than talking shit to other people.

Nice topic for a talk. I often find myself in similar predicaments while studying in college and seeking other interests, such as traveling, music, politics, activism, lighting design, graphic design, web programming, etc. I've been trying to use the discipline in fitness too to accomplish a high level of focus and responsibility. I enjoy going to the gym, so I always try to improve my fitness routine every day, learning what works best for me and what challenges me more. I try to apply those principles to everything else I want to excel at. I guess the hardest part is realizing none of the success and significant achievements comes in the blink of an eye and learning to appreciate every single step as being just as important as the end goal.

it takes 21 day to get used to a healthy/firness life style regarding the eating habits and going to gym. Thus if you've managed with controlling yourself and you're able to stick to the plan you've made early the day you'll definitely succeed in science/web programming/language studying and etc.

30 minutes to an hour a day of working out isn't all that much, but it is enough to get you very fit if you stick to it.

I worked as a janitor in this venue, and when the audience left, we had to pull an overtime to scrub the wet stuff off 50% of the chairs. #truestory #respect

he really has nothing to be nervous about. i'd be willing to help him gain confidence in spoken english, so that there's no shiver in his voice next time he delivers his brilliant ideas to an audience. no way anyone's underestimating this pretty boy! you go, glen coco!
