Model, Trainer and Professor Pietro Boselli delivered a talk to TEDxUNYP about the aesthetics of body and maintaining physical peak performance as well as the importance of increasing and developing the mind simultaneously. Pietro Boselli was born in Italy in 1988. He moved to London in 2007, where he pursued his academic career at UCL, with a degree in Mechanical engineering obtained in 2010 with first class honours, followed by a PhD in computational design of steam turbines, a project sponsored by Hitachi of Japan. During the course of his 5-year doctorate degree, Pietro had the opportunity to deliver problem solving classes and lectures on the subject of mathematical modelling and analysis, to second year undergraduates of the mechanical engineering course at UCL.
Pietro’s professional career as a fashion model, however, began earlier than his academic one. In 1995 he landed his first campaign for Armani Junior, becoming the face of the brand for 4 consecutive years. The relationship with Giorgio Armani lasted throughout the years, with Pietro’s participation to fashion shows from the age of 18 up to very recent collaborations with Emporio Armani and worldwide campaigns. Pietro has since early age b This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This really opened my mind to how much value we place on our minds over our bodies first. I never knew that! This was very illuminating.

His attitude of "Mens sana in corpore sano", of valuing body and mind equally, reminds one of Bruce Lee´s own attitude towards Martial Arts and Philosophy. But his approach seems to be more in line with what the Ancient Greeks believed (e.g. Plato, Aristotle, et. al.) about mind-body duality. (Which of course he further explores inquiring into several other sources from the Western Tradition.) It´s a great thing that he uses his personal appeal and popularity to influence others to do something for themselves that, in the end, will amount to their own personal benefit. Inspiring guy. All the best! to him.

I regularly tell people that knowing two or more languages is a strong base for developing the mind and the imagination. I think that I will introduce this video to further that point. Clearly Pietro has enormous facility with English and it is undoubtedly second to his native Italian. Perhaps Pietro is exceptionally bright and strongly motivated. That could be, however I see him as a perfect example to share with others.

Pietro, Thank you for your insights. I dare say that as a Catholic priest, I am very convinced that the balance of Body, Mind, Heart (emotions) and Spirit is very important and attentive to all lifts up the whole person. I'm not sure Christians see things the same way now as in the middle ages.

My father was an educator. His most senior position was as an administrative Vice Chancellor at Vanderbilt University. He didn't believe athletics should be apart of higher learning. I totally disagree with this attitude. Athletics or some kind of physical activity should be a required of all students(especially younger students). Intense exercise can reset the brain and his attitude did not serve is best interest in his career. I completely agree with Pietro's assertion.
