My iguana was in a cage for 11 years … he LOVES attention. He went from being in a cage to sleeping and showering w me! Just talk to him … treat him like a dog and he will learn to trust and want to be with you! He is actually extremely social!

Found your channel yesterday while looking for info on Fiji iguana enclosures and found the video setting up Charlie’s enclosure and binged for like two hours straight, all though i kinda slept through some because cars are amazing to sleep in xD but great videos! Really nice to watch and listen to while deep cleaning the non bioactive enclosures we got!

I need help!! I got one around my birthday and it’s scared of me. If I go in it’s enclosure to change the water it runs or tries to jump. I want it to trust me so I can pick it up. It doesn’t even let me pick it up.

I am not the right person to ask. I have had my iguana for three years and it currently tolerates me. If I were in your position, I would just handle it quite often anyway because I handle lizards all the time now and them being nervous does not make me nervous. For you, I recommend just being in the same room as it and getting it to eat from your hand. Get it to associate you with food, and allow it to get used to you being around it.

I've had my blue iguana Sully since she was a hatching...2 years later still wants nothing to do with me. She allows me to touch her through her cage without freaking out but when I open it she tries to whip me when I go to pet her and puffs all up lol she's eaten from my hand once and came out and got on me, on accident, when I was cleaning her cage lol she didn't even try to get off me at all. I recently had to move her into a new enclosure and she scratched and whipped the hell out of me!

Keep in mind that these lizards get massive, and they will need massive enclosures. Especially if you end up with a male. If you end up with multiple males, you will need many huge enclosures.

I bet he wouldn't like it if you pooped in his bed! Oooo, he was definitely being Charles when he did that. They are super clever. I love watching their eyes and wondering what they are thinking:) I wish you the best with him. My hubs says our Animals all think of me as a food bag, lol. I wish you all the best. He will get better, I hope he learns to trust you and you two can hang out and be bros.

Why did you take the substrate out? He or she looks really big, eggs?
@DIYReptiles3 жыл бұрын
I am assuming I filmed this while I was in the process of building the larger enclosure. I do not remember, but that would be why the dirt was removed. She is getting a bigger enclosure with more dirt.

I like how you call him Charles when he is misbehaving. He was watching you talk about him!: I love how he is so relaxed and stretches out to bask. I hope you can have a close relationship with him. Do you talk to him and pet him alot?

Since filming this, I have found that Charlie is actually female. She is a lot better now. She very much associates me with food, and she lets me pet her quite often. She really likes when I help her shed.

You titled this video how you "tamed" your iguana. You've had him for years and he's not tame, to you. You didn't even touch or hold him once in your very long video. Disappointing.
@DIYReptiles4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I guess I agree. He is a lot more used to me than he once was. He does not freak out when he sees me or when I open his enclosure. If I had to, I would be able to pick him up, but it seems to stress him out. I am pretty content with the point I have gotten him to, but I hope to work with him more in the future. I can see how this video would be disappointing. I guess the video was more about Charlie’s story up to this point. If someone is struggling with a green iguana that is too scared to even bask while they are in the room, this may be a bit of reassurance. I know that before I got Charlie, I had watched a couple of KZbinrs holding their iguanas and showing how tame they are, but they did not really talk about the work and time it took to get them there.
@pegiegault59314 жыл бұрын
@@DIYReptiles I'm sorry if I came off pissy. I just think from how calm your Charlie is while you are there? He likes you. I think you could totally get him more accustomed to being handled. That he takes food from you, crawls up your arm? Seem like good signs to me. I am no pro though! I have a baby rhino iguana. He is flighty in his cage, and is a doll when I have him out and away from the cage. I was just looking for videos or a video that addresses taming. And I think you are right! I can not find more than a handful that even discuss it, let alone tell you how to do it. Good luck with Charlie. I think you two could really be pals!

If you did not like it, I am not sure why you watched it. I just make the content. The choice to watch the video was yours. If you do not like the videos I produce, just do not watch them. It is truely that simple, and the comment you left helps no one.
