My sons and I are starting to get huge into reptiles. We have 2 ball pythons and many geckos. I live in windsor (so southern Ontario) could you please recommend some semi budget 120 gallon enclosures because everything on Amazon says it isn't available.

Had one for ten years. Unfortunately, I followed the advice of the Green Iguana Manual and I kind of turned her into an omnivore, and she eventually died of kidney issues. Aside from that, she was great. I even got to the point where she would come when I called her, or placed my flattened hand on the opposite side of her cage (which was essentially her bed, not her cage). IMO that is very rewarding to have gotten to that point, and one of the reasons green iguanas can be great to have. Did I mention it was a female?

A few years ago i was thinking about getting a green iguana, a friend of mine had an adult and asked me to pet sit for her for a couple of weeks by the time she came to pick him up i knew that an iguana is not the pet for me. I think if more people had the experience of looking after a pet (especially reptiles) they would find out that there not the right pet for them without putting an animals life at risk and massively reduce the number in rescues

Good video. I had a green iguana named Harley for 9 years, you make many good points. I bought mine in the late 80s before the internet obviously. There really was no information out there besides a few herp mags, word of mouth and maybe if you were lucky an knowledgeable guy at the pet shop. We just kind of learned by doing. Harley was mellow most of the time, but he was always kind of cranky. I ended up gifting him to my brother when he moved down south so Harley could be kept outside, and moved on to my next project: A Nile monitor. I must be a glutton for punishment.

My green iguana story is when I first moved to Florida in 1976 I got a job working for Jones and Scully. The site if the nursery was near Miami International Airport. There was an animal importer that was near by that was broken into before I moved there and in pervious years they even had a problem of iguanas eating cattleya flowers. Anyway after work after a thunderstorm had passed stretched out on the road was a good 4 foot iguana. So I leapt out of my 1968 Camaro locking the keys in the car with the engine running, at least I put it in park!. I also found out quickly that green iguanas half dead in Chicago are not what a wild iguana is like. Tail whips draw blood and the claws are really sharp! So I walk back to the nursery warehouse to get a box and a coat hanger to pop the lock. BTW those iguanas were from South America and were very cold sensitive the freeze of 1977 really did a number on them, they did come back from being cold stunned but they just shut down wouldn't eat and just starved to death. The real iguana problem started with the 80's iguana boom when ranched animals were brought in from El Salvador , pacific coast of Central America they had a lot more cold resistance.

My brother’s iguana, dog, was free-roaming most of the time and could usually be found on the cat tree. The cats thought about protesting but dog pulled his tail back and bobbed his head and the cats remembered they had somewhere else they would rather be. When he had to be contained he was content to be in the sunroom. His was constantly handled and very relaxed, though he thought my sister smelled pretty and flirted with her, by biting her nose. I enjoyed living with dog but I would never get an iguana for myself.

I had a huge Green iguana 25 years ago. Very large but also very docile. He was awesome and a great experience. I had several others but none as large and none that I held on to for a long time back in the day (mid 90's). They eventually made them illegal to have here in Maine. I would certainly get another one if the opportunity arose but I have lots of experience and the space for them. If I did not, I would not. Know and understand your capabilities.

My husband and I have a female green iguana. She'll turn 10 in July, and it's been quite a journey. She's used to us handling her, and is pretty chill, but as much as we love her, they don't belong in an enclosure or medium- cold weather, they seriously need heat, sunlight, humidity and specific nutrients.

we have a huge blue colored green iguana. Its probably 30 pounds now and close to six feet with his tail. We have had him since he was a baby. He is puppy dog tame and loves attention but during mating season he can be cranky. His enclosure had to be custom built and now he basically free roams in his own bedroom. You definitely need lots of patience and space for these guys.

As a kid I ignorantly owned green iguanas & red eared sliders (THEE WORST PETS for any beginner let alone a 90s kid). No UVB, NO humidity, no strong basking spot, poor nutrition unfortunately. I blame my 10yr old self but most of the blame goes to the poorly regulated pet industry at the time. But now that I am aware of both. Id probably never own them again.

I had Fluffy's care on a routine too, timers for his lights, prepped several days of his fresh food at the same time on the same days every week, he had free roaming of the house but mostly he chose to be on his book shelf by my desk. A piece of masking tape on his lights i wrote the date i replaced his UVB bulb last so i knew when to replace it, and when it was warm, i did have him outside in a large wire enclosure i built. Routine makes everything easier once you have it set.

I’m So glad that iguanas aren’t nearly as popular in the hobby as they were back in the early and mid 90s. They used to be at every damn pet store then and few had any idea what they truly entailed - do there were so many released or given up. My friend rescued 2 of them and he literally gave them a bedroom of their own. This was in LA so the weather cooperated and they also had an outdoor area but they were pretty nasty to boot but at least they weee well taken care of. He used to joke ‘in lieu of a wife’ he had the Dino-twins.

Iguana owner of 3 years here I have 3 of them and for anyone has one in my experience they get more docile the bigger they get and the more space they have. I keep 2 of mine in a 8x4x7 foot grow tent and being able to actually go into their enclosure a place they're comfortable in and spend time with them has worked wonders when for me when it comes to handling

Years ago a kid in the neighborhood had a green iguana he’d bring down to visit. The iguana was very sweet and well socialized…but still young…maybe 2.5to 3 feet long. He’d hang out with me in the back yard, enjoy scratches and wander around in the grass.

I had a huge male around 20 years ago he passed away about 10 years ago he was older when I got him❤ he is one of my favorite pets I have ever owned I barely kept him in his enclosure because he didn't want to be in it he wanted to be out with me and my cats and the kids. He never tried to hurt anybody with his mouth or his tail the only time I had to be careful is if we had pizza he would run straight for the box he loved pepperonis for some reason LOL😊😊

My wife and I have really been considering getting into iguanas lately. Probably Cubans, but are considering all species. We live in Texas and have the resources to design hide boxes for the winter period. But they will definitely live outside year round if we decide to go ahead with it.

Woody Standstill was my iguana and he was almost 6 feet long from nose to tail. I got him from an Aunt and whose son wanted one and then decided it was to much. I already had Retic (Sir Hiss A Lot, we got this guy from Grandpa when he was too old to care for him) that had his own room with space to spare. Woody was not handleable when I got him and after a few years, he was pretty great. I kept them both until I had my first born and had to rehome them (Sir was big enough to get the kid and Woody required way to much attention with a newborn). A different uncle built Woody an amazing enclosure outside where he lived for the rest of his life and Sir went to live with the fella down the road who had snakes of his own (he bought rats from me. 😂) and was still there when I moved 5 years later.

I highly recommend growing your own greens hydroponically. You can set up a garden in a plastic home depot bin for very very cheap and set up a few gardens. I have 4 going and am constantly growing greens for my cuban rock iguana.

My rhino iguana, I got as a hatchling is a little over a year old now. He has never tried to bite or tail whip me. I suggest this species if you have the space and resources, because it genuinely seems to enjoy attention. It raises up to be petted when I come around, and is a very sweet animal.

I have 2 green iguanas, i intended to only have 1, but my brother and his gf essentially gave me their iguana 3 months after i got mine. So i have been working on bigger enclosures for mine now since theirs was bigger he got the bigger outdoor enclosure. So my girl needs a new cage made but gotta get to work on that soon.

I was real attached to my green. I found him outside a house where I was running a painting crew when he was about a foot long here in Philly of all places. Built a 4X4X4 cage with branches until he got bigger and just had run of the apt along with a Golden Retriever, 5 ferrets, and cat. He always went in one corner that was in the spare BR where he grew up, so a 2" deep 3X3ft metal pan and newspaper worked as a litter box . No BS, bro, LOL. He died after almost 8 years when he got into the dry cat food. Paralyzed his legs and killed him. Great vids you put up. Thanks. One of my great nephews is a breeder of the fancy constrictors.

I loved having Fluffy! He was my iguana that was supposed to be for my daughter (she named him) he attached to me. He did get big, he could be agressive about certain colors or when he saw his reflection. His care was a bit more complicated but that works for me, i for some reason enjoy doing minute, detail oriented stuff. Twice a week i would chop up Fluffy salad of mixed greens, carrot, green beans, squash, zuchini, ect... into bite sized pieces and added vitamin powder and alfalfa pellets to it. We did have to make a lot more changes to our own lives to accomodate him. But most of the time he was like a large scaly dog. He didnt live in an indoor cage, he ha several resting places on top of bookshelves and entertainment center with water pans, heat mats and UVB lights hanging over then but he had a favorite shelf. He had a good temperament with people, i was always taking him to the schools for my kids classes. I miss him so much. Weird thing about them, Fluffy was extremely routine oriented. He wanted to do the same things every single day at the same time. I have ADD and horrible at keeping time. I realized after a while i had begun to use Fluffy's routine to help me keep up with what i needed to do, like when to pick up my kids from school.

My green iguana was the sweetest biggest baby ever he showered with me he went grocery shopping with me rode in the kid part of the cart ... He absolutely acted like a giant puppy dog ... Had free reign and his own bedroom ... He was raised from a baby so he was super relaxed loved to cuddle... He definitely was an anomaly... I got him in the 90s he has since passed but he was an amazing boi... I miss him greatly... They definitely need their own room to themselves if a person doesn't have that space for them to grow they should not get one ... They need a Lot of care and a lot of room... I don't think ppl realize how much care they need... But definitely was rewarding... I honestly think they are better raised as babes to learn trust and get used to contact so they won't be afraid...I grew a garden to feed my iguana... That is a best bet for iguana keepers.

Had 3 as a kid. Started with 2 gotten as tiny little guys. One ended up male and one female. The female was more timid and never liked handling. The male was absolutely amazing. Docile and anyone could hold him. We used to take him outside all the time. He never spooked or showed threat displays. The third was a rescue and was so mean. He'd whip and bite and he was gotten towards the end of our time with iguanas. I'm sure my parents thought he might be like the male we had at the time. If they were all like our first male, they'd be amazing! We had the first two for many years and they had a custom cage that took up an entire wall in the house. They were massive and beautiful but I wouldn't get them again.

When i was around 8yr old, I convinced my dad to get an iguana from the pet store... we loved him, he had a whole closet converted into a habitat for him, with trees and branches and his uvb light and everything. In the summer he used to hang out in the back garden with us but we had to watch that he didn't try to climb the house... lol. I Loved that boy but he grew way bigger than we could handle and there had been two occasions where he had whipped me and my dad with his tail because something else going on around us startled him. The last straw for my dad was when he got bit in the face because my cousins fluorescent jacket and her hyper vibes spooked him, so he was adopted by someone with other reptiles and a whole basement conversion dedicated to their needs. I feel like we were way under prepared for him as a pet and totally wish your video existed in the 90s so my dad could have seen it haha [Edit just to say when they bite they lock down their jaw and don't let go... so my dad had an angry iguana hanging from his face for quite a long while. He still has a nasty scar from that]

I‘ve got an iguana for 11 years until he passed away in 2010. He was such a good soul… never aggressive, never have bitten. I always let the door of his enclosure ajar, he prefers it that way, cause he always wanted to sit at the window instead of under his uvb lamp. One morning he woke me up, because the timer for the lamp wasn’t fast enough for his liking… so he placed himself on my forehead. I was upset and scolded with him. Next morning I woke up before he could try again because I‘ve heard him climbing up the bed… after that he used to sleep behind my pillow and in the morning he crawls under the blanket for a snuggle. Still miss him dearly.

I remember as a kid seeing these for sale at so many pet shops even a few of those like horrible pet shops that you find in malls, my cousin actually got one when he was a kid from a friend. Short moral of the story is when they go through puberty they are absolute nightmares to deal with, my cousin is still to this day missing part of his pinky.

My first experience with reptiles was in 10th grade. My science class had a large green iguana. Yes it's cage was a little small, but we didn't know better in the 90s. For 3 years I took care of that animal. And the snake that came later. It was slightly defensive to most people, but I learned his body language and really began to bond with it. My parents wouldn't let me keep him so I have no idea what happened to him. I would love one in my home, but live in FL.

i nearly had a baby green iguana as my first reptile, and while in hindsight im glad i ended up not being able to get the animal, i think i could have handled it fine. I had plenty of space, i did hours and hours of research, i was ready. I WILL have an iguana some day. I think getting it as a baby is the way to go. I realize they can "turn on you" at some point but i still feel like raising it from a baby and handling it daily would help in the long run.

i love iguanas, grew up with them, dad had us all taking care of iguanas in the PNW as part of an iguana rescue program, had a lot of sick iguanas in and out of the house, and i agree with everything you said. My dad was super charasmatic and managed to make a deal with the local safeway(small town) and took the veggies that were gonna be tossed at the end of the day(not fit for human consumption, but fit for iguana) and grew a lot of veggies as well.

You’re definitely not wrong! But because I have one of those very rare calm green iguanas I want to disagree, haha. I’m very fortunate that our male is very chill, well mannered and big sweetheart. And he’s a six foot, 22lb monster. That said, the cost to feed is nuts, his enclosure is massive and cost a ton to build, plus just the time to work with him is very time consuming. Great pet IF you have the proper means to care for them and a BIGGER IF you get a calm-mannered one. My last one lived to be 25 and he was also a great iguana so I’m lucky to have good experiences with them. Great video!

Green iguanas can eat pellets, so you can use less greens. My green and red iguana Tiger was raised on pellets and is 12 years old now and grew to 4 ft in 2 years. I did a video on her second birthday. I think they make great pets when cared for properly. They do know the difference between male and female humans. Of course the Cayman Brac rock iguana is a better choice, seeing that they are the smartest reptile in the world, which I have proven with videos.

Mine has a cage that takes up half a bedroom, has a bank of heat lamps and uvb tubes. In the summer and early autumn there’s and repurposed chicken run for outside time as well as growing veggies for him to eat. During the cooler weather he’s inside and I have to buy his veggies from the farmers market not to far from me.

Totally agree, I was a teenager in the 90's and we didn't know what we were taking on! Ended up having to build an enclosure that took up half my bedroom. I was sold a heat rock, and we didn't know about uvb at the time so he probably didn't live his best life. Loved that dude though!

My husband and I already started on an outdoor enclosure (will house chickens for now), and I'll renovate our kids' upstairs game room for a winter enclosure! Already have one. He's over 20 years old. Has his own bedroom. Table with ramp, so he can get to window, catch morning sun. He loves it. He is not caged. Which, is very probably wrong. Our friend owned a reptile store. He was retiring from business. SO, iguana and I, have a very strong bond. So owner asked me to take him. And , you are right. Eats alot. Thank God for a friend with garden. I love my iguana very much. But, would never have bought one. But I couldn't say no to owner. Poops alot. Constantly cleaning his table. But I agree with you. Don't get one, unless you have the space and time for them. And right habitat. Alot of care

we are in canada also , Alberta , we have a small zoo in our house with 44 lizards- 14 are iguanas and yes they are a handful,expensive and challenging at times but absolutely love them. we have 7 full grown green iguanas ,2 full grown ctenosaura similis and 3 ctenosaura quinquecarinatas and lots of other species of iguanas . If I were to ever get a green iguana, I would get a large catio, and convert it into an iguana enclosure. I've seen a lot of videos of iguana keepers doing that.

I've had 2 the unfortunately got caught up in a house fire while I was away on vacation. I purchased Conan when he was only the size of a male thumb and 7 inches long his last measurements before the accident was 10 pounds and 4 feet 2 inches long. Very chilled and laid back. My second one Zeus is much different. I've had him for about 4 months now and in the beginning he was super chilled ate normal and stayed active for the first 3 months. Mind you he's still a juvenile, however for the last couple of weeks everything changed stopped eating stopped pooping barely moves ,(can hardly use his front legs) and became very aggressive. I tried force feeding but he only to regurgitate it. The closest Vet for iguanas near me is 4 hours away. So my recommendation is just know what your getting to because now I need help for a sick Iguana and all I get is speculations and not cures.

I had one as a kid, he was moody AF. One time I was laying on my bed and he was out, and he popped his head over the footboard of the bed which stuck up a bit, looked at me, the Jaws theme started playing and he charged me bit me and whipped me with his tail. he was pretty smart though if I left his light on which I did once or twice he would whip the side of the cage which was an old record player case, it had foldable plexi glass lids two of em, and it was very large, so he wasn't shipping a solid glass case, but anyway, he was cool but definetly had an attitude.

The Odyssey, like the Iliad, begins in the tenth year of the story's chief action, with events nearing their climax and final solution. We begin with a very rapid location of Odysseus in place, time, and stage in his career, but then (via the councils of the gods concerning his immediate fate) pass to Telemachos, with Athene's visit which sends him off on his journey. The joins or transitions from theme to theme are noteworthy. After the poet has located Odysseus in time and space, the gods consider the question. Athene urges the homecoming of Odysseus. Zeus proclaims that Athene shall have her way; Odysseus may now start for home. Athene answers (i.81-95) Son of Kronos, our father, O lordliest of the mighty, if in truth this is pleasing to the blessed immortals, that Odysseus of the many designs shall return home, then let us dispatch Hermes, the guide, the slayer of Argos, to the island of Ogygia, so that with all speed he may announce to the lovely-haired nymph our absolute purpose, the homecoming of enduring Odysseus, that he shall come back. But I shall make my way to Ithaka, so that I may stir up his son a little, and put some confidence in him to summon into assembly the flowing-haired Achaians, and make a statement to all the suitors, who now forever slaughter his crowding sheep and lumbering horn-curved cattle; and I will convey him into Sparta and to sandy Pylos to ask after his dear father's homecoming, if he can hear something, and so that among people he may win a good reputation. This excellently motivates the Telemachy but it does perforce leave Odysseus stranded, and after the major part of the Telemachy, at the opening of Book v, the return to Odysseus shows more strain than the departure from him did. I have 2. A baby and a 3 footer. The baby is skittish and lightning fast. Like teleportation fast. My larger one is more mellow but still has an attitude sometimes. The worst part of green iguanas in my opinion is the claws. Expect to bleed every single time you hold one. At least until they get used to getting nails trimmed. Which takes time. Definitely not a good choice for kids. I live in Texas and keep them outside during the warm months. Imagine adopting a cat that doesn't really like you that much and you have to keep it warm and feed it veggies. That's what it's like having an iguana. Lol

I had Green Iguanas for years, Mostly unsuccessful. My first was in 1978, eight year old me was told to feed him Bananas and apple sauce. No heating required. You can imagine how that ended. I had a couple more in the eighties that died due to my lack of knowledge. Finally in the 90's i got one that lasted for five years, A female that was my right hand. But, once again, this was still the era of no UVB and Heat rocks. When she dies I was beside myself. Then I got a male that took an instant dislike to me. I had him in a huge 8 foot shipping crate with a chicken with door. He hated me, but loved all the girls I would bring home on dates,. Bastard had more game than me. When he died, I was unmoved. I was warned that he hated other males, but I was like " Nah, It'll be fine". Even after he tail whipped me in the eye. Now, I know better on how to keep them, and I was going to get another, then I saw Spike, my Banana Pectinata, and he's been a joy. It took some doing, and a lot of work to get him to trust me, but now, He's almost come when he's called. Especially to take treats from my hand.

Not even joking my ideal lizard is a Komodo Dragon. They are the most impressive lizards I know of and by far the coolest. I know they are extremely dangerous which is why if I could have one I'd want to hatch it or get it immediately after hatching to raise it myself. Before anybody hates on me for wanting an animal that should really be left alone in the wild, I'm not into them for fashion or any weird reasons. I genuinely think they are the most amazing lizards alive, and I 100% agree they should never be kept in captivity. I know their habitat requirements, which I personal would never have one without at multiple acres of land, and their dietary requirements. Where I live is humid enough but about 4 months out of the year they would need supplemental heat because it does get cold here during that time. Another reason why I think I could be a good owner of one is I would never own a pet I couldn't take care of. I absolutely refuse to get an animal I couldn't provide for or give a good life. I've got a beardie now and I've raised way too many paying mantis before. I also worked on a farm raising many exotic cattle and other animals not found on other farms. No they were not food, they were for educational purposes. One thing I discovered on the farm is the more dangerous the animal the easier it was for me to work with them. Do not ask me why because I don't understand. We had animals, that we kept away from public access and most employees access, that have tried multiple times to kill other people. The only reason those people survived was because other people intervened fast enough or they got lucky as hell. Those same animals not only allowed me to be in their space without me being in danger, but they would let me lay on them if they were big enough or lay beside them and take a nap if they were smaller. I'd fallen asleep one afternoon on top of a bison sun bathing, and that bison was always looking for a reason to kill a human. For whatever reason the animals chose to protect me even though I was a human while some of them hated humans. My favorite memory was I went to a zoo and they had their very large constrictor out because it was a nice day. A zoo keeper was keeping a close eye on it just FYI. The snake slithered over to me and made a coil around my foot and went to sleep. They had never seen anything like that before. No idea why, but it's 100% natural. Even animals that had been abused or feral when I volunteered at an animal shelter would let me touch them. Someone I now got a rescue dog and it did not like people, especially men, and took him months to earn the dogs trust. Within minutes the dog was coming to me for protection and comfort.

I went to an animal college. We had a green iguana there called Merlin. He didn’t like men but loved the girls. However he would become aggressive if you were on your period. So it sucked because it was embarrassing at 16/17 for the whole class to know every time your period came because you wouldn’t go near Merlin lol.

I am speaking of the green Iguana and my experience. I've had a lot of iguanas and done so much research, I am still young, but I do have experience with these beautiful dinosaurs! They are my favorite lizard, but they aren't a good pet. Their size is overwhelming and how much they need to eat, and the size of their habitat, just wasn't for me especially when I graduated high school, I was just so excited to enjoy some free time, I gave him up for adoption. They are just too much to handle and can be overwhelming, especially the males. I had my iguana in a 6ft tall 8ft wide 4ft deep and took most of my bedroom and was uncomfortable. I will continue to stick with my leopard gecko and boa constrictor. I wanted a huge reptile collection and planned it out when I started working but I'm glad I never did because my love for reptiles isn't the same anymore, I will always be more into dogs, so I just have 2 reptiles. I prefer lower maintenance reptiles, and I am no longer getting anymore as pets. I appreciate them but I am going to stick with dogs. I've had and still have higher maintenance working line dog breeds but couldn't handle the iguana. My point is do your research be responsible and dedicated to taking care of an animal. I love Iguanas just wasn't for me, I appreciate them by observing them not having them as exotic pets anymore. I don't recommend them to anyone, some wild animals are better off being in the wild.

I’ve been tail whipped bitten at a early age at their adolescent age very small when they get bigger them tail whips hurt worse and then if you’re not on people that know what you’re doing when they bite down on you

My vet told me iguanas can definitely tell between the sexes and males can actually get more aggressive if a woman is on her "time of the month." Didn't see it with my boy, but I only had him a few years.

I had a spiney tailed iguana as a kid. There was no info around on this guy at the time, and when he hit puberty, he became completely unhandlable. Will never get an iguana ever again
