About the SOFTWARE I use in the video: A huge amount of my production involves Adobe CC (my affiliate link tinyurl.com/v7fvqgo) I use Adobe photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Audition and sometimes Animate. I would be nowhere without these softwares. You can get them all with a comfortable monthly subscription, or you can get subscriptions to individual plans. Check them out and see what works for you. The main software I'm using to actually animate frame by frame is called TVPaint. Here's more information on that: www.tvpaint.com/ It's a great software :) And if you need a Graphics tablet, I highly recommend this one for you ballers out there (Amazon affiliate link): geni.us/vy8xUZB It's the best tablet money can buy :) And here's a great low-low cost alternative (Amazon affiliate link): geni.us/LLYv

When I was a very little kid, I played with my stuffed animals a lot, and I remember I used to pose them in action shots and imagine how the composition and angle would be if it were an animated film. I didn't know anything about film, I just watched a lot of action movies and was always trying to figure out what made them look so cool.

If you want to see an animator with crazy "camera" movements then check Naotoshi Shida's work. He recently went full out on DBS Broly, and his work there is pack to the brim with insane zooms in and out and absurd rotations. He's an overall great animator with an extremely unique style.

@Someone If you mean he is very formulaic, then yes, he definitely is. But that's the point, to give an extremely stylized and watery movement to his animations. It's not very realistic, but that's one of the wonders of animation, you can break reality if you want to. His timing isn't "all over the place" just bacause his animations are highly stylized and aren't very plausible lol. He's not a "bad animator" just because he likes to exaggerate things a lot, and give everything a sense of watery flow, instead of following a bit more closely reality like the animators you mentioned. I don't see how that's an objectively valid criticism, and not just your personal distate for his style. And he could perfectly animate differently and in a more grounded manner if he wanted to, just take a look at his other work. Still, I do wish he would change things up a bit from time to time. You also seem to criticize for some reason how he animates all in ones, and like, why is that a bad thing?... So using your logic Richard Williams must had been a pretty mediocre animator... If you want to critize his exaggerated movement and crazy timing that's fine, but that has zero to do with his decision to animate on ones. Don't get me wrong, you can totally dislike his style if you want to, but that's not the reason to why I brought him up. I mentioned him because he is mostly known for exactly the topic of this video, even YOU said it. On the other hand when I think of Hayashi's or Nakamura's work "insane camera movements" isn't necessarily the first thing to come to mind, despite the fact that they do make some crazy stuff too. Btw, you also seem to dislike his work because he's very formulaic, yet you mention Nakamura... Who's well know for becoming more, and more, *and more* formulaic over the years... Just like Shida...

Dude, i can´t tell you how helpful this was. I can´t even point out what exactly makes me feel that way but it just was helpful. I think your words somehow showed me that i need to get more "hands on" with stuff and maybe take my time to plan out my objects and environment in the real world before going into any program. I guess i start thinking differently and get caught up in unneccessary technical stuff once i draw digitally without having visualized my scene in 3D in the real world. Thanks so much, for real. I´m a poor student so i can´t offer you anything more than my thankful comment and a sub, so here you go

Though I am new to this technique with animating camera movement, I thank you for your videos. Various scenes from different anime series that would create movement circling a character or zooming toward a face fascinated me to want to learn how to master this skill. I was advised by other artists to try to practice with shapes (making a circle bigger for example) and perspective or resizing the frames to create the illusion of panning out or to a character or field, though as a beginner this is taking time to be used to. I will try following your suggestions and hope to one day improve on both anatomy and camera movement.

He uses TVPaint -- I'm pretty sure there's a trial but for the full version you need to pay. A lot of animation software (least the most powerful industry ones) requires you to pay for a full version. (If I were to pay for an animation software I'll probably use ToonBoom). Though, some free animation software is Opentoonz, Krita, and Flipaclip. (There's more but these are the ones I know). And as for me, I use a combination of SAI (payed drawing software) and Videopad (free video editing software)-- it's a bit meticulous since SAI isn't an animation software but it uh, works for me so :D. So, goodluck in animating if you ever do it :D, it's a bit hard and time consuming but if you do love doing it then you'll love it no matter how hard it is ^^. Best wishes.~

Love this video! I see you're using TVPaint. It's a great animation program, but what I don't like about it (at least in the standard edition) is that you cannot draw outside of the canvas. As you pointed out, I like to continue my lines beyond the camera frame and not being able to do this in TVP feels rather limiting and a bit frustrating. So I created a template that is larger than full HD and includes a gray border that I can draw on. After the animation is done I can crop it down to export it without the border. I think I saw you doing basically the same thing?
