Awesome. I have been a commercial fly tier for decades. My family was tying commercially back in the 50's and i am the only one left tying 70 + years later. Commercial fly tiers have to catch the fishermen, then the fish. I love the way you get to tie for the fish. What an awsome feeling that must be!! Love your style!!

That is my sentiment exactly- a fly to catch fish and the fisherman

Catching bass on mice is what I like to do the most! I’m from Nebraska and fly fishing isn’t really the most popular (hoping to change that!) just wanted to say as one warm water guy to another thank you for what you do!!!!

Thanks again Alvin. For a hobby tier like me this looks like a better mouse fly than deer hair patterns where it's hard to get everything right - body shape, eyes, ears, nose. Alvin is a guide, and not allowed to lie the way us regular fishermen do, so if he says this mouse catches fish it does! Will order natural color pine squirrel zonker strips and gray foam to tie size 4 mice for summer evening trout here in PA.

AL-Dee, like watching you tie. Different from what I do but I definitely learn things from looking over your shoulder. You might want to check out a guy called Smalljaw. He’s not a fly guy but he borrows techniques from fly boys in his bass jigs. I think you’d certainly find things to try on your stuff. We all do similar things but different ways.

Yes put them on before. I do that sometimes, just didn't have any when I was tying it.

Great tie! I was surprised when you didn’t have foam ears on the fly like a lot of patterns. Of course it is a Guide Fly, and I imagine fish don’t see mouse ears from their perspective. Lol! 👍🏻👍🏻

@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing Cool thanks. I was playing around with the idea of tying my own, but I wasn't sure how much it would save me. Would you do a video on tying leaders for bass/saltwater?
@TheBenbeyer3 жыл бұрын
Do you tie anything for targeting Guadalupe Bass specifically? I know the patterns that Matt Bennett and Chris Johnson among others have come up with but I didn't know if there was a guide fly or a certain pattern you use most of the time to do a video on.
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing3 жыл бұрын
I don't tie anything specific. Most patterns that catch largemouth bass will also catch Guadalupe bass.

you ever tried tying the head not facing backwards? just wondering
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but if you look at the deerhair mouse patterns or a real mouse they have a pointy nose. The other way around is just a variation on a Gurgler, which is another great fly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ6TiqKOj8mJo6ssi=XzoGk1eGgGAxvjF7

Just came across this video. If you ever decide to name this pattern, I think you should name this Alvin’s Torpedo Rat. I’ve also been looking for more easier rat/ mouse patterns to tie. Thanks for making things easier. If you want feedback if this will work for trout I’m more than happy to let you know.

I couldn't help but notice that you forgot to include legs, ears, whiskers, eye lids, and other elements imperative to mice flies. Personally, I've always felt realistic eye lashes are a key for bass when looking at a mouse fly :). Just being a wise-ass. Thanks for sharing
