Stuff like this is why I live competitive in both singles and VGC; strategies are being developed all the time, so even when in particular idea seems to not be very good, it does well because people don’t expect it. Then that idea is used more, and a counter meta develops. Then a counter to the counter meta develops, and it keeps going. It keeps the game fresh and always makes sure one concrete strategy won’t destroy everything
@ZaqZiemba Жыл бұрын
Yeah…. It’s a shame then that VGC in recent years decides to completely change the format every two months or so. I too love to see meta development and reaction. But oh well

This man just walked into one of the most prestigious and brutal events in video gaming history, achieved a 64% win rate, and then said "meh, could be better." You gotta give yourself some credit here, Freezai. I love how big your goals are and I support them but you have to congratulate yourself a bit along the way. Phenomenal job!

Making day 2 in any of these tournaments is still an incredible feat, and don't let that bring you down! I started competing in the TCG recently, and so far haven't made a top cut for any of the 3 tournaments I've played. I've gotten very close and know how frustrating it can be to get that far and fall at the very least hurdle, but being able to make top cut against some of the best players in the world is a truly incredible feat. So making doing that in your first two official tournaments is OUTSTANDING. That being said, congrats on the placement, and good luck in your next one!

@ultimapower6950 Жыл бұрын
Stalls newfound ability to adapt to battlefield where it’s usually considered bad in without stuff like evasion, it makes a man like it at least slightly more. As for my opinion on stall I somewhat like it mainly because it means that Pokémon with immense strength but crippled by their low speed get a chance to shine.
@salakasto Жыл бұрын
This whole arc is the most anime thing I've ever seen. Comes in strong, shocks everybody at the tournament as this first time VGC player somehow finishes 9-1. Second tournament it comes down to a 1-1 match that determines if you go to day 2 or not. You lose...but your plot armor means you just barely make it to top 32 anyways and thus advance to day 2.

I very much know the feeling of being disappointed because you felt you could have done better despite finding success. Just remember that once you're at Worlds, none of your previous results matter. It's about the there and then. Also, once you WIN Worlds, no one is going to care that you 'only' top 32'd at Vancouver.

Freezai did you go to any interesting attractions in Vancouver? I have a trip planned there in June and would love to see some places to check out. A vlog would be an awesome way to look back on these trips you take to tournaments because it's about more than just the tournament results
@DefeatistElitist Жыл бұрын
It depends a lot on what you're interested in and how far you're willing to go. There's a lot of stuff you can get to relatively quickly on transit, but certain types of attraction (Capilano suspension bridge, skiing, etc) require somewhat significant travel time. If you're willing to head out to the University of British Columbia campus (a 20ish minute bus ride from several SkyTrain stations, so pretty easy to get to), then in addition to the campus you could check out the Museum of Anthropology, and if it's the right season you can check out the botanical garden, Naitobe garden and rose garden, if that's something you like. Near downtown is gastown and old chinatown. Science world is near there if you have kids with you or think it would interesting. You can take the SkyTrain into Richmond and its many malls if that's your thing too :p. Plenty of other potential things as well, but these are a few examples.

Starting everyone at effectively 6:30 am because of the daylight savings switchover is just proof that the tournament organizers hate everyone and it's personal. :D Congrats on at least doing alright. Tournaments are exhausting affairs where your first opponent is limited attention/energy. IMO this is one reason to maybe not play stall; the mental energy and time that takes are precious resources. You did alright though!
