Wow sorry this took me sooo long to make, but I hope it is helpful for my fellow thin-nailed folks!!! I talk about a few different methods or ~hacks~ that I found super useful when I was growing out my thin, damaged nails, including nail oil, hardening base coats, and most importantly, a builder gel overlay.
Here are the other folks' videos that I mentioned being really helpful and informing a lot of what I talked about in this video-again, it's hard to make an exhaustive source list since so many wonderful folks share so much helpful info on this here internet, but hopefully this is a good resource section for people wanting to learn more!

I never had long nails in my life until the pandemic. There were 3 things that helped me attain my natural nail goals. 1) Pink Armour Nail gel. 2) Cuccio Nail Oil (any kind will do) 3) Liquid Biotin (biotin tablets work too.) I've had a few nails break because I used them to either pick up, peel off, or pry something open. Don't use your nails as tools. Assuming that your father is opposed to the cost of acrylics and not just fake nails in general; you can also use tea bags to repair or build nails. You'd have the look of acrylics without the cost. There are a few videos on youtube that can show you how to create them.

I absolutely LOVE Nail Armor! It's my must-have. I used to be a super bad nail biter. I used some crushed or minced garlic in a clear polish. It tasted bad enough, also with the garlic, it helped to grow my nails. 😉

Unless you do your research and get the very best of the best nail tech, you'll regret getting acrylics, because they buff your nails to get the acrylics to stick and not lift and that is removing layers from your nails natural thickness. My mum always had thick long nails, then she got acrylics for her 50th, nails were shredded afterwards.

I’ve recently started looking after my nails more, these are my tips that I’ve learnt that help: - Always make sure your nails are clean, use a tool to clean underneath them if you need to and scrub them frequently but with something gentle like a sponge or a cloth. - If you want to grow them long then don’t file too frequently, otherwise file them every week or every other week (not more frequently than a week though because filing too often can damage your nails as well, square nails with right angles are easier to maintain but they might break easier if they’re long. The best files to use are glass files, they can be expensive though so I got a sapphire file for only £2 and it works perfectly fine. If there are rough edges use a finer file afterwards. - If they are long and you don’t want them to break, act as if your nails are freshly painted, stop using them as tools for things like opening drawers etc and be more cautious with them. - Try to avoid acrylic nails or lots of nail polish as this can be harmful, if your going to wear nail polish, wear as few layers as possible, preferably one coat and one top coat and avoid acrylic nails completely, at least for a few months while you’re first trying to improve your nails. - Try to incorporate foods that will help your nails into your diet, even if it is just having a bit of it every other day that will help you have stronger nails, things like almonds and other nuts are good, foods with lots of vitamin E like avocado, mango and kiwi are good as well. And remember to drink plenty of water because your hydration is really good for your nails. - Stop picking or biting your nails, even though it might be hard, trust me it will be worth it when you have your ideal nails. - Keep patient, your nails aren’t going to improve over night, it might be a couple of weeks or even a month before you notice much change, depending on what you want your nails to be like, so you need to keep patient. - It’s equally as important to look after your cuticles as it is your nails, leave your nails in warm/hot water for around a minute to soften your cuticles before using your fingernail on your other hand or a cuticle pusher (Again I got one for £2 and it works well) to gently push up your cuticles, do not cut them though, they protect against bacteria and infections, do this every week after you file them. - Every day at least once (I find it easier to do in the evening before I go to sleep) massage your cuticles with oil. You can pretty much use any type, you can get special cuticle oils but I use olive oil because I have it anyway and it works well, just message each cuticle for about 10 seconds and leave the oil on there. This step really helps so I recommend you do it unless you absolutely can’t. - Remember that the key to healthy nails is your cuticles and healthy cuticles = healthy nails. - If you want to find as exact routine and exactly what products to use, looks up a few different nail routine videos on KZbin to get more ideas and tips, this is what I do. - Remember, having healthy nails doesn’t need to be expensive and you don’t need to have fancy products, you can probably get everything you need for under £10, maybe under £5. I hope these tips help you reach your nail goals! 💖

Using a fingernail as a cuticle pusher can damage that nail. Oilling 1-3 times a day during a whole year ruined my nails. I think it trains your skin to produce less oil naturally, so my cuticles and nails got extremely dry. I only oil 1-2 times a week maximum now.

I’m about to turn 17 in 3 months and ever since I was 7 I used to bite my nails so bad to the point where I didn’t have nails everybody tried to get me to stop but I just wouldn’t. My grandmother would put bitter nail polish on my fingers so I wouldn’t bite them but I did anyway. It’s been maybe about a month now and I haven’t bitten them as bad I still bite them a little but they look better than ever. But I have made myself stop completely so I really hope this helps because I want my nails to look beautiful!!

Hi, I have had this problem for most of my life and didn't know how to overcome it. I also tried the the nasty bail polish but that didn't work for me either. I would recommend wearing false nails if you like them (I wore them for about 2 weeks max) and then when I would take them off I wore a nice nail polish that I liked enough for me not to pick it off. After the weeks that I physically couldn't bite my nails I wasn't that attracted to bitting them. Hope this works x

I was always a nail biter too, and sometimes I can still go back to it if im not careful. The things that help me was always having my nails painted. Somethinf about my plain nails always made me pick and mess with them to see if they are even or whatever. When they are painted I leave them alone more. Also, use a cuticle oil so it lessens the rough edges so it helps to reduce biting to even it out. Get a glass nail filer. It helped my nails grow and stop splitting. U can get them on Amazon. Good luck girl!

So excited to try the gel overlay with the peel off base coat topper! Ive been dying yo use gel overlay, but didnt want the hassle of futzing with reapplication every time I change out my polish and nail art. Somehow the combination of those two together never occurred to me, and its bloody brilliant! Thank you! Also, i used to have crazy strong nails, but because of a decade of meds for a fibro pain condition, my nails got crazy thin and peely. I did a ton of research and discovered the holy grail of nail and hair growth.... healthy for a ton of reasons, but seriously... if upureot using a good MSM powder youre doing your nails a huge disservice. Cheap, too! Just use 1 small gradually incrasing to one large scoop mixed in with a huge bottle of water and drink throughout the day. Its super bitter, but if u put in enough water you cant even taste it. Read the reviews on Amazon and prepare yo have your mind blown... huge number of raving reviews from people using ir primarily for nail hair growth and to stp breakage. You can get it at drugstore but was cheap on Amazon, like $10 fir a huge tub. Dying to hear if you try it and what your 1 month of use review is! Has made a huge difference for me. However I have always known that I have brittle & thin nails (yes a combo).😔 I got gel polish and my nail still snapped 🙄 and I'm scared to try the strengthening polish because like I said some of my nails are brittle (snaps) so I am elated to find that you actually grew your nails with the builder gel bc so many ppl suggest against it . Meanwhile I'm over here like yall must not know that it's people out here who legitimately has PAPER for NAILS 😪

Mine tear, snap, bend, and everything else in the book. The two worst cases are 1) when I move my hair and a piece gets caught under my nail and it tears in the corner or 2) when i hit the tip of my nail on something and the tip chips off. Oh and mine tear even with nail polish on. It's really weird. Ive tried everything except today I'm trying hard as nails, which worked a long time ago and stopped working plus miracle gel and a mg top coat. Acrylics work but then they break and take the whole tip of my nail with it and cost $75 every month. Sally hansen had a really nice wrap that worked in the past that I can no longer find.

I was looking for something that will make my own Nails strong because anyone can put a overlay on their nails and protect them when you have overlay you're not wearing down your nails you have something making them stronger over them

I try to do it a few times a day, but I think you'll notice a difference if you do it daily!

It’s most likely because of some imbalance with your body (most likely not your fault though, society does not set you up for success) so while I’m rebalancing myself I’ve found that glass files are helpful (I got mine from twinkled T) and I made my own nail oil to give nutrients to the nail bed and moisturizes the cuticles! Mine had jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and rose hip oil. And painting your nails can help in the mean time too, it’s like keeping a coat on for extra protection :)

Fun fact: jojoba is pronounced 'hohoba'. Just wanted to share lol. Thank you for these great tips! I am definitely going to try your advice as I am quitting false nails in favor of long natural nails

Hi great video and for the gel which one did you get rubber top or rubber base or is it a different one. based on your video my nails would be thin they are easy to bend. I have been making sure I file them so I won’t get any snags. And I have been putting a hard base on them. plus I wash my hands constantly as a cna so I use my hands a lot.

I just started using hard as nails i waited until they grew out a little and added a coat I’m only going to use them as needed. My nails bend and break so I hope this works🤞

@@norra4603 it worked great but… my nails started chipping again so I stopped using that. I got tired of having long nails because I would catch them on everything and break them even when they were harder. I just went back to keeping them short (chewing them) again. I could grow them back out if I wanted.

I hate the feeling of oil on my hands and fingers. But i want to try cuticle oil. Is it ok to leave the oil on for idk, 10 minutes and then take it off?

Sure! I also find that the jojoba oil absorbs really quickly, so if you rub it in it will probably barely be there after that long!

So do, especially on the palms of my hands, so I’ve found a good way to utilise the extra, once I’ve rubbed it all into my cuticles and top part of my hands fingers, I rub the excess in the palm and underside of of my fingers onto my elbows , because they are usually quite dry and love the moisture, and then that way the top tops of your fingers are still moisturised but you can go on with your day, touch your phone and pick up stuff etc without feeling too oily
