I grew up with keeping my braids in for a minimum of 3 months. I thought it was normal. But according to most comments the max is around 2 weeks- 1 month. I just recently learned how to braid my own hair and have gone through trials and error ( especially in the parting department) and I've been washing and reusing the same hair about 3 times now. I've never thought to do it how you do it when it's time to refresh. Do it one at a time to keep your parts, very nice. So long as I dont get a permanent part.

Smart as hell!!! Listen I wish I parted mine good the first time so I could do this.
@Benatherine4 жыл бұрын
I do that with my hair when I have braids in. It's just a lot easier. Or I just take crown down and redo those and leave the middle alone. It saves time and it just makes the style look fresher without all the extra money and time
@secrets00024 жыл бұрын
Benatherine Cooper I also redo the front for "freshness" and if I have color in, I take down the front, recolor and redo the braids...looks good as new...especially as normally my braids fall back...I don't do partings...I had faux locks and after 1month I used new hair to cover the growth, it look like I just had them done...sometimes I use curly hair on the braids and cover new growth...I normally take down the style every 3months...

Everybody is talking about how patient she is she leaving them in that long; can we talk about how patient she is for having them THAT LONG??? I got so much shit when I was a child trying to wear braids that I gained a negative idea about wearing them, but now that I'm old, I absolutely love them! I get why you want them long, because that 20" stuff limits what you can really do, you end up with weird pieces sticking out all kindsa awkward ways, end up using so many bobby pins to make it right. I'm going to try jumbo box braids because I do not have the patience you have to make all your hair so immaculate. Thanks for sharing your how to on maintaining braids. I always used braid cleansers instead of washing because my hair is mixed, but not the good kind and it dreadlocks in water, especially if I can't comb it out after. This is how I do my daughter’s braids every year. At the six week mark, I redo the front one day and the back the next day. This year I kept them in 3 1/2 months. Her hair was shoulder length when I put them in but almost bra strap length when I took them completely down! I realized I was VERY harsh when taking them out. That’s why she wasn’t retaining length. Keeping them moisturized and taking them down slowly helped a lot. I’m putting them back in a week until the week before Thanksgiving. Then it’s natural twist until Christmas. I’ll get her hair pressed for pictures.

Hi, why don't you cut the old extentions with scissors seeing as you use new hair? This technique takes me back to what I used to do in uni... Your hair looks great btw

This made me so happy and sad at the same time because i used to be a BOX BRAid addict 😂😂😂😂 everybody around me would be like, How you keep your braids so long lol... my method was Month 1-2 minimal styling (b/c its still tight) Month 3 ROCKOUT... Then RE-BRAID a section of the hair and do the same after that section loosens up lol

Wooo...for a minute I thought I was going to watch you cut the braid off from the new growth or add hair for layer braids. 🤣🤣 I'm glad I was wrong. Thank you for being so transparent "lazy braider" 😁.

I like the technique you used to make the braids long it’s easier than feeding it in until its at my butt. Imma try dat. 🤔

I’m going to try this on my mixed-race hair and I hope I can maintain my hair like this because it takes sooo much work & product(moisturizer then oil daily) for shoulder length hair that dosent exactly compliment my face shape so I’m soooo excited & happy I found this video

Soak in a tub of water with Apple Cider vinegar for about an hour! Luckwarm water. You will see all the stuff that makes your hair itchy float to the top,rinse with cool water and hang to dry. My scalp would litterally be inflamed from being so itchy, after doing this I never got that itchiness again! And don't worry it won't smell like vinegar
@krystalsmith52184 жыл бұрын
I do the same. I wash my hair while my twists are still in and then i rebraid my hair one braid at a time and I have reused my hair for the past 5 years. I do need to start replacing some hair because the twist were jumbo size but they are now really thin. But this method is great for people wanting to look beautiful on a budget.

Another thing, the last time i had my hair twisted, i kept it in for a year, with maintenance every three months. When i finally took it down i soaked my braided hair in water, shampoo baking soda an vinegar. After soaking i rince and hang to dry. I then put it right back in the hair bag it came from. I refuse to waste money. I work too hard to be wasting moned on products i already have but don't want to take care of. The hair i use for my twists are the cuban twist braid
