@@pancakes465 thank you so much.
@T-Bone994 жыл бұрын
Well it's not technically a linear function; generally speaking, according to the "power law of learning", learning processes can be displayed as a positive powerfunction; You learn a lot, relatively quickly and then it tapers off towards a certain "skill cap" which you can only reach by absolutely pushing yourself. That is when content becomes more complex and difficult, or when skills become more and more difficult to automate/perform. (i.e. where the "learning curve" starts to really get steep.) However, regarding progress: You do most progress relatively early on. Think about it: Say you were learning to play the guitar. You learn the basics in a few months, some more intermediate things follow that, and a few years of consistent daily practice, learning becomes slower and slower as the content "to be learned" becomes more and more advanced. It's like that with professional tennis players as well. They learned the majority of the skill within a few months very quickly, but the progress that sets them apart is done relatively slowly over the course of several years of practice. You can earn 60% of proficiency of a certain skill within months or a few years, but the other 40%, to truly make you a pro-guitarist or tennis player, will take you several years (if not at least 10 years, for extreme levels of skill, like professional musicians and tennis players). Same thing goes for forgetting content. The "power law of forgetting" postulates that you forget the majority of content very quickly at first, and it then slows down after a while, taking longer and longer to completely forget what you've learned. Forgetting can be displayed with a negative powerfunction. Same thing goes for typing. When you first start out, your speed can increase a lot within just a few months of practice, but after that, getting from say 130/140 words per minute to 150 (like Ali) will take you a lot more practice over a longer stretch of time. This is where an "increase" in your abilities (direct palpable improvements) start to taper off and slow down. You're still making progress, but at a slower rate than when you went from 40WPM to 80WPM within a few weeks.

I think I'm the only person who has this feature in chrome, since I've seen absolutely no one talk about this feature in the internet, the feature is: when you type in a website and press tab, it lets you search with that website. So for youtube, you just type youtube (or if it autofills for you, the better), then press tab, type the thing you want to search then click enter, it will redirect you to youtube with the results of your search. I've seen absolutely no one talk about this and it makes me sad to be honest. You can also add certain websites if it doesn't let you do it at first, but not all websites are compatible though especially if the thing your searching doesn't pop up in the address bar.

what you're talking about is search engines. if you visit a website, sometimes they'll add a search engine for that website to your browser automatically. however you have to visit a website that was programmed to do that (e.g. a shopping website). otherwise, you can just make your own search engines. the cool thing is if you make your own search engines you can specify your own keywords. so for example for KZbin, my keyword is yt. whenever I type in yt in my browser, it switches to my KZbin search engine. browsers are meant for search engines and I think the real reason why people don't know about this is people the average person doesn't really understand what a search engine really is and how search engines aren't decided by the browser. in fact, if I wanted, I could use my address bar to search my KZbin search engine by default, only searching Google if I type in a keyword like gg. btw, a fun fact, you can use your browser address bar to go through your computer's file system as well

Hey about the loud, forceful typing. I used to do that in my youth too. I typed VERY loudly, and over 110 wpm on dvorak. Annoyed the hell out of coworkers but it was just habit. The more in the flow I was, the louder, harder, faster it got. But as I aged (now mid-50s), I developed all kinds of RSI problems in the hands and fingers (not wrists), in spite of having always been heavily focused on proper ergonomic desk setup and posture. (And using two mice with alternating hands, the rare times I use them. And also augmenting keyboard with footpedals.) I've even had to switch to heavily modified ortholinear split programmable keyboards with ultra-light, very short throws, and had to design my own layout over several years. I believe that my very heavy, agressive typing was what caused my RSI, because there were no other complicating factors. The obsessive focus of ergo keyboards helped some, but what really turned things around was focusing on as light a touch possible, and keeping the fingers as close to the keys as possible. In general, moving the fingers themselves as little as possible, and using as little force as possible. It also ultimately helped me speed up. (I'm not yet back up to 110 wpm on my own radically different layout, but steadily climbing. Age/slower learning, and slowly improving RSI has definitely slowed the learning curve - not like it was when I could switch from 100 wpm on qwerty to 110 on dvorak in 1.5 years in my 30s. But I'm nearing 70 wpm.) Maybe you won't face that same fate, but just in case I'd strongly recommend making that adjustment now, just in case!
@WallaWallazz2 ай бұрын
Those are all good points. The light touch method helped me immeasurably, along with getting a mechanical keyboard with very light switches. My error rate went up very slightly, but I have a lot more longevity before my hands tire or hurt. I've tried dvorak, but I don't think my brain has the elasticity to pick it up lol.

I would also recommend some shortcuts I use super often on windows (I don't have mac so 🤷♂️) ( *keyboard shortcuts* ) windows + e > opens file explorer windows + d > shows the desktop ctrl + o > usually to open a file (I use this mainly in my text editor but also works on photoshop etc) alt + f4 > closes the current window alt + f4 (when being on the desktop) > gives you a prompt to either turn off / restart / suspend your computer alt + tab > switches quickly between your opened apps ctrl + tab (in firefox) > allows you to switch between opened tabs ctrl + t (in firefox) > open a new tab f6 (in firefox) > select the search bar to type in your search directly shift + left (/right) arrow > select text character by character ctrl + shift + left (/right) arrow > select text word by word end (/start) + shift > select a whole line of text ctrl + a > select the whole text in a document ( *mouse shortcuts* ) double click on a word to select it triple click on a word to select the whole line also, hitting the windows key then typing the name of the app you want to use is much faster than searching for it in any other way

dont forgot windows key + anything in your taskbar and the number in its location like say i had discord open in my 2nd taskbar at the bottom i just press windows key + 2 and i would instantly open it, much faster than alt tabbing

ctrl + l > Go the the address line in browsers and file explorer ctrl + w > close tabs ctrl + shift + tab > switch between tabs in other direction alt + shift + tab > switch between apps in other direction ctrl + home > go to the start of the document/page ( ctrl + end is the opposite) Also use of ctrl + arrows is very handy.
