Because returnal is a relatively lesser known game, and the speed running/plat aspects being even more niche, its unlikely youll get the recognition that this achievment deserves. The understanding of the game this requires is absolutely insane and doing this in four hours requires some luck but mostly knowledge and skill. Well done!

The glyphs don’t always spawn in the ones you need, so luck is honestly a lot of it. I’ve beaten the game like 4x and I’m still missing like 3-4 glyphs for the platinum, I’m 34 hours in.

For me Returnal was at its most fun when I was just playing the game to get to the first ending. I beat Phrike once and moved on, beat Ixon, moved on and so on. Once I beat the game I jumped back in for the second ending collecting the surface fragments. Fortunately I found them early with little effort and got the second ending. Where the game became a grind, a torturous challenge was the road to platinum, going back into the game looking for the remaining ciphers, scout logs that I didn't find during my first and second playthrough and completing the surveys and battle rooms. The last trophy for me was the proficiency trophy so at least I was able to give the main game a break by then and go over to the tower of Sisyphus dlc. I got my final trophy there to get platinum then continued playing the tower to 100% the game by getting the dlc trophies as well. My total playing time was 80 hrs, 60 hrs for my platinum and a remaining 20hrs for the dlc. After that I was done with Returnal and moved on to other games. Great journey though. Felt very rewarding. One of my most memorable experiences in all my years of gaming.

I finally decided to come back to get the Platinum from release due to the trophies being so buggy at the time. Had to finish the surveys on biome 2 twice due to a bug and then delete my save file and replay/beat act 3 over again. Despite how long it took me it was so worth it and to see you do it in 4 hours fresh makes me so jealous lol. Good on ya still I loved watching this!!

there's definitely a lot of luck involved but if you know exactly what you're looking for you can cut down on time spent in each cycle

Its what I always tell people who complain about the rng collectables. Learn how to speed run and eliminate the sections you know arnt going to spawn the cipher your looking for. When you do that the process isnt that bad.

Once I got the platinum I continued to play the tower to 100% the game. I was going to collect all the tower's ciphers but I hit a wall for trophy collecting and stopped playing. I got my platinum in about 60 hrs and might of done an additional 20hrs for the dlc.

How do you know where to look for the xynoglyph ciphers? I'm stuck in Biome2 can't find the cipher #12 😢

there's some solid guides online that show what the map looks like + a screenshot of the location for each cipher, I'd try figuring out specifically what cipher you're missing then just run through without killing enemies and look for that specific room in biome 2

Spitmaw blaster is seriously slept on by basically everyone. Its one of the best weapons in the game, and everyone seems to avoid it like the plague, and call it terrible.

@cavecavecave_ Everyone tries to play like a cover shooter, and they avoid getting close at all costs (also resulting in losing a ton of money). If you play like doom eternal, like you're supposed to, the spitmaw is the goat. Also it's just more fun that way.

I love the spitmaw, especially with rapid fire and slug shot traits. Most weapons get so much better with traits, even the humble pistol, but I still don't like the thermogenic launcher and coilspine shredder

it's random, my best advice is to load the game up and get to biome 5 as fast as possible and just ignore every enemy. Check the door on the bottom right of the map when you go to the hub and if you don't get that room instantly reset and try again.

Two questions to anybody interested in helping me out: 1. I am only missing the Crimson Waste, Fractured Waste, and Submerged surveys. I have every other base game trophy unlocked, does this mean I’m only looking for the final scout logs? I know I’ve collected all the ciphers. 2. If I haven’t collected all the DLC trophies, will this prevent me from unlocking the platinum?

@@EJofKC DLC trophies don’t count towards plat If you’re positive you have all the ciphers the only other parts of completing the survey are scout logs, accessing a secret room, and completing the challenge room in each of those biomes

@@Loophole23742 Yeah probably spent 150 h just hacking away at the tower, can usually reach phase 5 now. One of my psn friends has over 1100h clocked up, he spends a lot of time doing co-op

@@Loophole23742 I replied but somehow it disappeared. Yes about 200h clocked up in the Tower cause its so addictive, can usually get to phase 5 and I have 100% traits for most weapons. In fact I have a psn friend how has over 1100 h clocked up. They had the platinum for the vanilla game and Ascension for a while but just keep coming back to it for online coop
