Same with me. I've been drinking "diet" soda for years because mom was a diabetic and wouldn't have regular in the house. For a long time I thought it was the caffeine that kept me drinking it but eventually discovered through experimenting with caffeine-free sodas and black coffee that it's the carbonation that I crave. People have told me I'm nuts when I mention it so I'm glad I finally found others like me.

Bought a Soda Stream (or perhaps a different brand) YEARS ago because I had teen aged kids with lots of friends and they drank me out of house and home with all their soda "needs". Once they were grown, I gave it to my daughter so her kids could have soda. I know...dumb grandma!. I have been thinking about how much I liked the bubbly water lately, and picked up a SodaStream yesterday. I KNOW I will like it and use it...but this time, NOT with sugar-filled soda-pop flavorings. When I picked it up, I also saw SodaStream fruit drops and bought the raspberry flavor. I was amazed how little flavoring I needed to taste the berries. NOW, I want more fruit drop flavors!!! Great video...and great beard!

I agree, but this has nothing to do with Sodastream. You can do exactly the same simply adding flavor syrups to normal bottled frizzy water, that you can buy for cheap price in the stores. Sodastream water costs per liter much more than bottled water. The only advantage of Sodastream is that you have not to carry heavy bottles to your home.
@careya3 жыл бұрын
The 2 liter bottles are great, but lose fizziness before I’m finished with them.
@Tyco0723 жыл бұрын
@@careya Yes, I know the problem. Fortunately I find 0,7l glass bottles, which taste always better than any plastic bottles. You could split the water from the 2l bottle into 4x 0,5 liter bottles, so that the water will keep its gas. I use this trick with the 1 or 1,5l liter bottles of cola, and other frizzy beverages.

Wow something similar happened to me. For twenty years I rarely drank water. In place of that it was always soda. I was so used that I never thought about measuring the amount of sugar per cup. After I found out the amount of sugar I was amazed. It's just insane. What worked for me was swapping soda for concentrated lemon juice. What I liked was the acidity of the drink. I mixed with just enough water to make it bearable lol. If I knew carbonation machines existed at all, I bet I would have preferred that alternative. I noticed I started to become much less sleepy during the day after cutting most of the sugar. It was one of the best things that happened in my life.
@jorismaasvisuals6 жыл бұрын
Do you recommend the SodaStream if you are "addicted" to soda drinks (I love Dr. Pepper, Cola and Mountain Dew haha...but the amount of sugar is insane and I don't like the light drinks due to the artificial sweeteners which seem even more damaging to your body...).

I lost 25lbs, 205 to 180, in about 4 years. I glug 1-3 litres of plain carbonated water a day. I sometimes have a soda, but max 1 per day. I like max bubbles, 3 squirts, enough to tickle my nose. I bought an extra cartridge and hoard Bed Bath and Beyond $10 off $30 coupons like they're stock in Amazon. I don't care for the flavoring syrups; sometimes I'll add a bit of lemon or lime juice. 15 more lbs an I'll hit my high school wrestling weight! A bit of downside is that I pee like a preggo now, including needing to get up in the moddle of the night for a bathroom run.

I have been thinking on buying a Soda Stream, but currently, all bubble water here are cheaper than making same amount with the Soda Stream. That means the water + co2 only. I know it have turned around for my life, the soda is a good way to swap out if you want to loose a lot of weight. And same here, "addicted" only to the bubbles.
@jorismaasvisuals6 жыл бұрын
Did you get the Soda Stream yourself in the end? I am still looking into it because it seems more healthy to just put bubbles to freshly pressed fruit + water (even at a higher price). You gain weight due to the sugar in Coca cola and other soda drinks (cutting out the sugar will lose weight definitely, even if you are not really overweight....it's healthier anyway).

Fyi two things that will add a lots fizz to your soda w/o wasting the gas. Make sure the water is cold ans then add the co2 until the first buzz sound. Then lift the whole unit up and shake it vigorously, then add not co2. U can do this a fee times until it can't be absorbed any longer. I do this ALL the time to my soda stream. I love lots of fizz

Great tips! I'll have to try that brand of OJ. I just got one of these Sodastream machines for Christmas and its gotten the most use of any new appliance I've ever had. I've read today that if you carbonate the water and leave it sit pressurized in the Sodastream for about a minute you get better fizz. Not sure if that is true or not but I will try that. I like ginger ale so I did a simulated healthier recipe with water, dark brown sugar, real ginger root sliced and a dash of black pepper and boiled into a syrup. What I found is exactly what you said, I like the bubbles and don't need all that shitestorm of high fructose sugar and chemicals found in regular pop. All I need is a couple of tablespoons of this syrup I made for a 500ml bottle so I estimate its about half of the sugar of a can of pop. Its a lighter flavor but much better with a real ginger flavor. I was shocked how much it tasted like ginger ale and so simple.
@practicalguy9736 жыл бұрын
If anyone wants to try this is what I did: 2 cups water 1 cup dark brown sugar loose (not packed tight) 1 inch round by about 7 inches long ginger root half turn black pepper from my grinder (1/8 teaspoon) Peel the ginger with a spoon and slice it thin, add all to a small pot and lightly boil until most of the water is gone and its a loose syrup. Took me 30 minutes to make and it works for about 4 liters of simulated ginger ale, obviously you can use more syrup and make it more like the real thing too at the cost of drinking more sugar per cup.

@JedBrown refills are less than $3 if you refill the CO2 cylinder yourself. No fancy tools required. Just buy 2lbs of dry ice at your grocery store, set your empty canister (with its valve & overpressure cap removed, use wrenches) on a kitchen scale, blend the dry ice into powder in a blender, and scoop it with a funnel into the cylinder (use a chopstick if it gets stuck in the funnel), stop when you’ve added dry ice totaling the weight noted on the cylinder (eg 14 oz). Quickly replace the valve and little relief cap and set it aside to warm back up to room temperature. Then put back in your device. Takes less than 10 minutes. Just wear gloves so you don’t get a dry ice burn! There are lots of KZbin videos about how to do it. It’s easier than changing your own oil and saves almost as much money!

What if you just put apple juice directly in the bottle and carbonate it? Now I buy applejuice and add carbonated water to it but the result is that the already watery applejuice gets even more watery. I think the bubbles are so addicting af the drinking experience as well because I buy many bottles of carbonated water myself and it's actually more expensive than buying Cola or other pre packed soda drinks because of the sirup you also need to buy (or juice). Will it be cheaper to use Sodastream in the end by using their CO2 cannisters? I saw people refill the Sodastream cannisters with dry ice on youtube (but it seems that the CO2 cannisters are different here in the Netherlands where you can't easily unscrew the top off and put dry ice in it yourself).

Does it get expensive to have these cylinders refilled or exchanged? I read on their site you have to send the empty ones back no later than 30 days or you get charged? I don't get it. But I really want one if it's more cost efficient than buying carbonated water at the store.
@Fireguy974 жыл бұрын
@Laura Dee If you purchase your Soda Stream at a brick and mortar store they have a cylinder exchange program where you bring in your used cylinder and exchange it for a full one. This is less expensive than purchasing a new cylinder. But even doing the exchange can be costly. You can do two other things to bring the price down considerably. One, is to get a larger Co2 cylinder that holds a lit more gas than the Soda Stream cylinder. You also have purchase an extension hose to connect it to your Soda Stream machine. This setup will bring the cost of the gas down after the initial set up cost. The next way is to refill the Soda Stream cylinders yourself. It's fairly easy, but you'll need to be a little handy with a wrench and work with granulated dry ice. It sounds a lot scarier than it really is. You hurt have to take it slow and easy, and have a few simple tools and a pair of safety gloves. KZbin has videos on both ways of doing it. I just read in another post here that one person fills his restraunt sized cylinder for $25.00 every three years. That's a lot less than the soda stream cylinders. Good luck in your new adventure!

Gray Bailey My recommendation for tea in a Soda Stream would be a loose leaf tea you buy at a tea shop ground into powder, not tea bags. Tea bags are ok.. think of the waste an the flavor/quality of tea is not the best from tea bags. You could steep strong loose leaf tea an add some ginger for a nice healthy kick with jaggery or any other raw types of natural organic sugar. Matcha would be a PERFECT edition! Liquid vitamins could also be another new addition with your Soda Stream. Sounds fun!
