I got one of these systems last year and have made a liter almost every day! My favorite thing to carbonate other than just plain water was the occasional fruity and hibiscus tea. It has a kombucha-like flavor without the complex brewing process. Using bitters was a great suggestion. Going to try that! I was making my own flavor extractions and I just didn't have good results but bitters is going to do the trick I think

Love these videos, and I hope to experiment soon! Since I’ve never tinkered with carbonating or any contents under pressure, what are the safety precautions to keep in mind?
@NadiaandRob Жыл бұрын
The only safety issue we’ve experienced is if you twist the carbonation cap off too fast it can become a Champaign cork and want to fly across the room. Just release the pressure slowly as you open the bottle. This is most important if there’s less liquid and more co2 in the bottle….. it takes a minute for all the pressure to release. Other than that we haven’t had any issues, and neither of us had dealt with anything under pressure either. Hope that helps!

This is SOOO in my wheelhouse! I’ve got two CO2 tanks for off-roading (to inflate aired down tires), but what a great dual use idea, since I buy cases and cases of fizzy waters. One of the ingredients in standard unsweetened waters is referred to as “natural flavors” or “essence”. I looked up both to find that it some of the flavors are derived from beavers. Hi Rob and thanks so much for the great series. As a result of my finding your site, Ive solved the issue of carbonated water and bevs for our custom van build where space is at a premium and getting Sodastream canisters makes less sense. Ive made a nice setup. Doing lots of carbonated water for my afternoon cocktail. Also recarbonateing beer that Ive not finished. My current dilemma is that beer has worked its way up the hose after a few shots. I cleaned it out by taking the hose off and cleaning with water. Do you have any suggestions for keeping the liquid out of the hose? Thanks...Ernie in Vermont
@NadiaandRob3 ай бұрын
Hi Ernie, so glad you've enjoyed these videos! The trick to prevent backflow is to keep the hose higher than the bottle... and don't invert the bottle. Arrange the hose so it flows down to the bottle. Then don't raise and invert the bottle when shaking. This will prevent the beer from flowing up the hose. Happy sparkling!

Howdy. We saw your vids and now have a similar system. I've taken it a step further, though. We bought a bottle capper. ( it puts/seals bottle caps on appropriate glass bottles, that is on 1's that had caps on them originally. ) It was less the $20, & came with about 150 caps. ( more can be purchased as needed). I mix a batch, fill the bottles, cap them, & they last longer than plastic bottles with screw on lids.( not certain how long. I've only started doing it 3 weeks ago. However, the 1st 1 I did was good as new after 3 weeks). 😅 Though you have to mix it up in an appropriate plastic bottle. Just a heads up. Enjoy. 😊 Edit: still carbonated after 5 months. 😉

You might consider getting a corny keg, at minimum could help you carbonate much more at once and then bottle fill from it, either directly from a tap or cobra tap, or go full on and build a soda water kegerator, you can make them continuously refilling and always have it available.

11:58 You have the most informative views on this subject. I just got my new set-up and am really enjoying. I was thinking of carbonating ginger tea as I like the ginger ale and (non alcohol) ginger beer. Have you tried that or do you have any suggestions in that regard? Also the Rooibos tea could you just make the tea with tea bags and then chill or is the cold brew much better? I would also like to mention that I have had a hard time swallowing food and notice that drinking sparkling water makes it easier and better for digestion. After I discovered that I found some doctors on KZbin actually promote drinking sparkling water.

Hi Paulbrown, Glad you are having fun with your carbonation set-up. I haven't tried any ginger drinks, but they should be great... let us know what you find. We prefer the cold brewed teas and coffee, as the cold process makes a less bitter flavor, especially when cooled. Contrary to popular belief, even Fee Brothers bitters DO contain alcohol anywhere from 1.3 - 45.9% (for Lemon Bitters) ABV. You're correct that bitters are usually used in in dashes; therefore, at the end if it was mixed with water, over-all ABV is lower and you may not even taste the alcohol, but for someone very sensitive to alcohol, he/she will feel it afterwords.

I just set myself up with one of these thanks to you. My first time using it though I noticed some of the liquid from the bottle would leak into the tube when I did your shaking technique. Is that normal? If not, how do I prevent it? If so, how often should I clean it out?
@NadiaandRob11 ай бұрын
If you keep the bottle upright when you shake it this will prevent water flowing into the tube. It’s nothing to worry about since any water in the tube will get blown out next time you carbonate.

I am buying the setup you have and I was wondering if I should get the pressure regulator that provided higher than 60 PSI. I see some that provide up to 120 PSI. Would I need any higher than 60 PSI ? Would 60 PSI provide the optimum carbonation ? Is supplying the plastic bottle with a pressure higher than 60 safe? How high of a pressure is safe ?
@NadiaandRob Жыл бұрын
I believe the 60 PSI valve is best suited for this. I don't know the maximum safe pressure with the soda bottles, but 60 PSI is no problem. Go higher at your own risk.
