Flying fingers technique gives an opportunity to play much faster with less energy expenditure compared to playing with wrists at high tempos. I've given few tips and exercises for those, who want to learn it.

@@blasfemus1663 For a quote "Jazz" stick, they have some nice size and weight without being too heavy. A quite versatile stick despite the smaller tip. Have you ever tried the Zildjian Anti-Vibe model?(5A and 5B I believe). They have rubber in the butt end. Feel and play really great. I highly recommend them. Surprisingly, Zildjian has some pretty good sticks. Happy drumming 😃

Excellent. I have finally found my gold at the end of the rainbow. But, I am actually going to order some wrist braces because no matter what I do, they move. In the slow motion I noticed that your thumb never moved. Cool.

My technique isn't perfect, but it can be done by just training and trying alot. The exercise with holding my wrist helped me the most. And my left wrist tends to move a little bit more than my right, but it doesnt change anything.

Very good, I understand pinkie is the hardest, how long did it take to master?
@blasfemus1663
@blasfemus1663 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah pinkie is the hardest to play alone in this exercise. But when you use pinkie with other fingers while playing, it gives you a little boost (many drummers dont use pinkie). It took me about a month to get the technique right, and another 1-2 months to use this technique while playing for example fast blastbeats or rolls.
@JonjonesSmagman

@LevyLandTV
@LevyLandTV 2 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand how the stick is staying perfectly straight. Mine always end up going diagonal all over the place, so I'm not sure how to achieve such perfection with this technique.
@blasfemus1663
@blasfemus1663 2 жыл бұрын
Mine aren't always perfectly straight, you can see that at 0:15 . You have to work out wrist position for yourself. Do those exercises for few days and watch at what position your wrist is working most efortlessly. You wrist doesnt have to be perfectly vertical. You can also use your other hand to hold your wrist at a position you wish it to be while playing. This way you should learn playing in this position after few days. Hope that helps!
@Carriesaglock
@Carriesaglock 2 жыл бұрын
Your dominant hand should get it first pretty easily. The weak hand will take tons more practice. This may sound counterintuitive but practice using wrist strokes. If you can’t do it without using the wrists you won’t be able to do it with the fingers. Finger control will come along as a byproduct.

Hey! The only exercises I can think of are in the video. Do not try to fast, let the rebound do the work. You can also try playing in tripletes, gives your hand a different feeling. A good starting point for me is 180bpm (played in 8th notes) or 120bpm (8th notes tripletes).

There are many great drummers that don’t use it. In my opinion, when you’re learning try to adapt your hand to use it. It’s alway few little muscles more, that can make a difference in long runs. Also my fingers feel like “intergrated” when I use all of them. I feel more power every hit while using little fingers.
